“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

US petroleum independence by 2035?

I have to admit I did not see this coming. And as hostile as Obama is to oil, I'm skeptical, but if true, it's some good petroleum news for a change.....

From Newsmax -- The United States will overtake Saudi Arabia and Russia as the world's top oil producer by 2017, the West's energy agency said on Monday, predicting Washington will come very close to achieving a previously unthinkable energy self-sufficiency.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) said it saw a continued fall in U.S. oil imports with North America becoming a net oil exporter by around 2030 and the United States becoming almost self-sufficient in energy by 2035.

Between domestic conservation and production it would appear the US will be able to divest itself from interests in the middle east in the next 20 years or so. No longer will we be obligated to safeguard the Straights of Hormuz, the Red Sea, the Gulf of Oman, etc. through which much of the world's petroleum is shipped.

We won't have to care if Iran threatens Israel, because Israel will destroy Iran as we Americans sit comfortably at home on our couches sipping Margaritas and not caring. Gone also will be the days of ditsy pageant contestants citing "peace in the middle east" as their life's goal because we won't have to care if there's peace or not.

Great news but I will believe it when I see it. I do hope it is true. if so, the U.S. gov (or someone) needs to do a better job of telling the story. People might even get excited about this and further their efforts to help.

I know. If true, why isn't anybody talking about it besides me? Energy independence could be a watershed-defining eventuality in regards to our middle-east foreign policies.

I find it difficult to believe that we are producing that much more petroleum when Obama has made off-limits millions of acres of federal land in the lower 48 as well as more millions in and around Alaska.

Something doesn't seem to add up here.
