In the year 680 A.D., an event happened that was a turning point for what was to become the Shi'a Muslim community. Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, was brutally murdered during a battle against the ruling Caliph -- on the 10th day of Muharram ('Ashura).
The actual day of remembrance was yesterday on the 25th, but given that it's part of the practice of the barbaric cult of Islam, I deemed it to be mock-worthy any day of the year. How self-flagellation counts as a reverent observance of anything is any body's guess, but then the Muslim culture isn't known for having evolved beyond savagery and idiocy.
