Hostess CEO Gregory Rayburn to striking union workers: "Get your sorry asses back to work by 5:00 or I'll close the company."
Labor union to Rayburn: "We'll stay on strike until you agree to not cut our pay or benefits in any way."
Rayburn: "Screw you! You're fired and unemployed!"
Earlier this week Hostess, the makers of Ding Dongs, Twinkies, and Wonder Bread, said it would close it doors permanently if its union workforce didn't get back to work by the 5:00 on Thursday. Well, 5:00 came and went with the union refusing to come off strike, so the CEO closed all 33 bakeries and immediately 18,500 people are out of work....no doubt lining up at the government unemployment benefits office even as I write this.
Good for Rayburn for sticking to his guns! Unions distort and pervert the labor market to the point that companies cannot compete in the market place and still make any profit, leaving the owners will little choice but to close up shop. In addition to government regulations and taxes, unions are a large contributor to the outsourcing of jobs to other countries where labor is subject to normal market forces.
In the wake of the imposition of Obamacare, look for this sort of thing to play out across the nation, leaving thousands out of work entirely. But of course, this is precisely what Obama designed Obamacare to do....punish businesses to the point that they fire people or go out of business entirely, in essence forcing citizens into Medicare and Welfare programs. Eventually, through market forces, private insurance companies won't exist at all and everybody, by default, will be on government healthcare.......or SINGLE PAYER.....exactly what Obama promised to do.
