In Palm Beach County, homicides are definitely down, but justified homicides are up as residents put into effect the "Stand Your Ground" law that passed back in 2005.
Every community should have a "stand your ground" law that specifically states that home owners have the right to defend themselves and their families from intruders. This is different from most home-invasion laws which state that you must retreat if possible. This law gives residents legal protection when they choose not to run but decide to stand and fight against crime.
I look forward to reading more stories from PBC about residents killing home intruders and the cops shrugging because the shooting was entirely justified. When citizens are armed, violent crime always goes down.
