Tom Harkin and Ben Nelson are whining again about silly ATM transaction fees....fees that are entirely voluntary. With democrats in serious disfavor with voters, they are pulling out all the tired, populists issues to try to be appealing again.
Nobody forces you to use ATM's. If you are such a skinflint and you resent a $2 transaction fee for the convenience of using an ATM, then spend the $4 in gas it takes to drive your cheap ass to your bank and stand in line behind the 9 year old opening her first savings account, the 85 year old who needs the teller's help balancing his check book, and the fat guy with his name on his shirt and a pickle jar full of pennies.
Is a voluntary fee of $2 too much to ask for providing the convenience of not having to go to the bank in person? Who with better than a 6th-grade education thinks that the installation and maintenance of ATM's doesn't cost the bank anything? With the trillions in fraud, waste, and abuse associated with government spending of your tax money on TARP, bailouts, stimulus, etc., who gives a crap about ATM fees?
