“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”
Socialist Party presidential candidate Norman Thomas

Obama lickspittle Bob Schieffer regurgitates democrats' lie
Democrat, media hack Bob Schieffer continues to parrot the lie that social security checks might not go out if the debt ceiling isn't raised.....
From Newsbusters -- SCHIEFFER: Every month, millions of Americans depend on Social Security to support their families and make ends meet. But now, they may not get their next check, if the debt ceiling crisis is not resolved.
If Obama orders the checks to not get paid, they won't get paid, but that's the only reason. There's plenty of money to pay the interest on the debt, SS, Medicare, Medicaid, military, and most other stuff. Some government shutdowns may have to occur, but really, who gives a crap if some government toady at the Education Department doesn't receive his absurdly lavish salary for a few weeks.
Bob Schieffer is an Obama lapdog and in the tank for democrats like no other TV anchor. Only Brian Williams comes close. The funny thing is, they don't think anybody notices.
Would-be Ft. Hood terrorist is not only a Muslim, but a coward
This is the Muslim coward, Pfc. Naser Jason Abdo, who asked for and received conscientious objector status from the Army, went AWOL, then planned another terrorist attack on Ft. Hood. Thankfully and alert gun-store owner notified the cops and he was stopped.
Here's his rational for declaring CO status: (from FoxNews) -- "Islam is a peaceful religion, it's not a religion of warfare," Abdo said. "And it's not a religion of terror. As a Muslim, we stand against injustice, we stand against discrimination, and I feel it's my duty as an individual to do this."
First, I didn't even know the military granted CO status anymore. If you are unwilling to kill or be killed, then you are a useless piece of crap to the military and should be drummed out of the service with a dishonorable discharge...tout suite!
If Islam is such a religion of peace and not of warfare or terror as he laughably claims, what does he call a planned terrorist attack in the name of Islam against soldiers at Ft. Hood?
No doubt the media will be sympathetic to him since he refused to fight against fellow Muslim terrorists.

CK rightfully counsels the tea party to think long-term
Charles Krauthammer has a pretty good point here. We tea partiers need to take the debate shift that we've caused(no body's even talking about tax increases because of tea-party pressure), let Boehner's bill pass, and start planning to throw out the messianic piper from the white house next year......
From Hotair -- “You cannot govern from one branch. All the Conservatives control now is half a branch … and under our system, you’ve got to have it all.” he said.
“All of us respect the Constitution; it sort of defines the new Conservatism. If you believe in it, then respect the Constitution, understand its restraints, and win the election in November.”
The only way that can happen? Persuade the country that America needs a smaller, more Constitutional government. Krauthammer said that right now Obama is weak, Conservatives’ case is strong, and the economy’s on the rocks. “Why would you want to send the country into a crisis now and share the blame with Obama? It makes no sense whatsoever.”
I think he's right. If we go beyond the deadline on Aug 2 without a debt-ceiling increase, the media will hysterically wail about the sky falling, and republicans(specifically the tea party republicans) will get most of the blame in the minds of the barely cognizant public. That can't be good for gains we'd like to make in 2012.

Don't be duped by politicians' lies regarding the debt ceiling
What ever happens on 2Aug when the debt deadline passes and no bill has been passed, in terms of the downgrading of the US credit rating, don't let lying politicians scare you into believing that Social Security checks won't go out leaving grandma to eat dog food and live in a van down by the river.
The federal government confiscates around $200billion dollars a month from citizens who work. There's plenty of money to pay SS, Medicare, Medicaid, the military, and so on. In fact we can cover easily about 70% of the budget with that money. The problem is which items do we not pay for when the deadline passes? Just like if your household had a budget shortfall, what would you not pay for? You'd pay your mortgage, groceries, electricity, etc. But you might not pay for cable TV, the yard service, the pool boy, and some other non essentials.
President Obama threatened to choose to not cut SS checks because he wanted to scare everybody into putting pressure on congress to raise the debt ceiling with no promise of cuts. He was lying. The first thing on the chopping block when there's a budget shortfall should be the paychecks of all elected government officials. That should light a fire under them to reach an agreement. After that, why not put non-defense government agencies out of business for a month or two, such as the useless Depts. of Education, EPA, Interior, Commerce, HUD, etc.? These aren't necessary agencies. They are generous jobs programs for well-connected friends of corrupt politicians. But nobody would care if they threatened to shut those agencies down, only threatening social security gets every body's attention. What a bunch of lying bastards we've elected to lord over us!

Human/animal hybrid discovered
Apparently scientists across the pond have been up to some fiendish experimentation.....
From Christianpost -- British scientists have created over 150 human-animal hybrid embryos, in secret experiments conducted over the last three years, according to English publication the Daily Mail.
The news comes just days after a group of scientists warned of a “Planet of the Apes” scenario if the human-animal experiments went too far.
The embryos were being developed, scientists say, to help develop cures for a wide range of diseases.
In a TRR exclusive, we have obtained an image of a chimeric species. This is Henry Waxman (D-California). He is a perfect, high-functioning hybrid of a man and a common garden mole.....
The only thing more repulsive than his looks is his political agenda.

Nissan Leaf owners devise a smug wave of mutual smugness
The dorks over at Nissan want their measly, 4,000 smug Leaf owners to devise a clever way to acknowledge each other in the unlikely event that they meet in traffic. Pictured are the suggestions Nissan already came up with. Pretty stupid I know.
Here's my suggestion: how about the back of the right hand pressed against the driver's forehead with the thumb and index fingers in the shape of an "L"?

Who's the hottest murderess in the world?
Is it just me or is Amanda Knox the cutest murderess in the world? She's way hotter than Casey Anthony, who's not even really cute.
Another UN boondoggle masked as humanitarian aid
Here we go again.....
From Aljazeera -- The UN World Food Programme is set to start airlifting food to the drought-stricken Horn of Africa where more than 12 million people are at risk of starvation.
This food isn't going to any starving children. A vast majority of it will go to the insane tribesmen who slaughter albinos for their magical bones, and the thugs who work for the dictators who run that part of the world with unspeakable brutality. No starving will be averted. We're just feeding the criminals, rapists, and murderers....and I'm not just talking about the ones who wear blue helmets and work for the UN.
Sam Kennison had it just about right....why don't these nomads move to where the food is rather than living in the God-forsaken desert? We have deserts in America too, but we don't live in them.
Uh oh......businessmen actually going Galt
If you only have time to read one article today, read this one from DavidMcElroy via Linkiest. A coal-mine owner here in Birmingham actually talks about going Galt, meaning he sees the negative business environment and the environmental demagoguery against industrialization that exists in America today and he's throwing up his hands and saying, "I'm just quitting!"

US taxpayers underwriting the Taliban to the tune of $2.16Billion
Am I the only one around here who sees the utter nonsense in our being in Afghanistan at all if we aren't there to kill people and blow things up? Nation building, hearts and minds, and all that crap in a God-forsaken shit-hole with corrupt, drug-addled, 11th century tribesmen? Are you kidding me?
From Yahoo.com -- US government funds earmarked ostensibly to promote business in Afghanistan have landed in Taliban hands under a $2.16 billion transportation contract, The Washington Post has reported.
Citing the results of a year-long military-led investigation, the newspaper said US and Afghan efforts to address the problem have been slow, and all eight of the trucking firms involved remain on US payroll.
Moreover, the Pentagon extended the contract for six months last March, the report said.
The investigation found "documented, credible evidence ... of involvement in a criminal enterprise or support for the enemy" by four of the eight prime contractors, the paper noted.
If Congress would wipe out half the fraud, waste, and abuse associated with foreign aid alone, we'd be easily out of the financial hole in which we currently find ourselves. Good grief!
Is Kate Middleton's body mass too low to conceive a royal heir?
Apparently Kate Middleton collapsed from exhaustion after returning from her whirlwind trip of North America with new husband Prince William. The thought is she's been starving herself to maintain her figure since everybody's looking at her and she collapsed from lack of food and body mass.
Shockingly, it's not her health that the Brits are worried about, it's her ability to conceive. Said one assistant....
“Kate’s got to relax and start eating properly because her next royal duty is to produce a son and heir.”
Could somebody please inform the morons in our mother country that it's the father that determines the gender of the offspring, not the mother. Because you know that Kate will be blamed if they have a bunch of girls and no male heir is conceived. Are they really that stupid?
Pelosi's most ethical congress ever....*snicker*
This is insane, Oregon democrat congress-critter David Wu who has been accused by the teen daughter of a contributor of an "unwanted sexual encounter".....how that differs from rape or sexual assault, only a democrat can explain.
Predictably Nancy Pelosi, who promised to "drain the congressional swamp" of corruption and ethics violations, said that she was too busy to comment, at least until the media wouldn't ignore the story and she had to make a lame, boiler-plate statement calling for an investigation.
Do you people in Oregon really want an aggressive sexual deviant who dresses up as a furry and molests teenagers as your representative? But then, Massachusetts voters repeatedly elected to office, a sexual deviant and alcoholic bum who negligently killed a girl and failed to report it for 12 hours while he concocted an alibi with his shifty lawyer. Democrat voters are all alike no matter which coast they live on I guess.
Club 27
You've probably heard by now that troubled singer Amy Winehouse died from a drug overdose this weekend. It is not currently known whether it was accidental or purposeful, though she was in possession of cocaine, heroin, ketamine, and crystal meth, so even if ruled an accident, how is that not at least subconsciously on purpose, am I right?
Amy Winehouse joins a long, distinguished, and very curious list of musical talent that has died at age 27. Among dozens of lesser known musicians that died at 27 are Brian Jones(Rolling Stones), Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, Pete de Freitas(Echo and the Bunnymen drummer), Pete Ham(Badfinger), and Gary Thain(Uriah Heep).
What a strange and macabre fraternity to be in.
Now that there's room on my celebrity dead pool and Lindsay Lohan is only 25, I think I'll move her up a couple of notches. In two years when she's 27, look out.

The institutionalization of barbarism
From Pat over at Belchspeak, here's a story about Muslim middle-school students in the land of tolerance, Canada.
Apparently school prayer is not only allowed, but encouraged in Toronto....but only if you're a member of the poor, put-upon Muslim minority. Heaven forbid if you're a Christian and want to say a blessing before a meal, the sky might fall.
In this picture taken in the school cafeteria during prayer time, the boys are of course lined up front where Muslim men rightfully belong, with girls submissively behind them. And who, you might ask, are the people lined up way in the back? Why dirty, menstruating girls of course. If you're on your period, you're a filthy whore in the eyes of the benevolent pedophile Mohammad, and you may not pray to anybody.
And we bend over backwards to accept this kind of "religious freedom" from Muslims here in America? At some point, even to dumb liberals, basic human rights trump barbaric, idiotic religious practices, don't they?

After Betty White politely declined Ray Lewis' invitation to escort him to the Marine Ball, actress Linda Hamilton(Sarah Connor from The Terminator movies) graciously offered herself as a consolation date. How cool is that? Whether they agree with the wars or not, I think it would be great if Hollywood actresses took one night every year to do something cool, and escort a marine to the ball. There would be nothing but upside for everybody. The only person who could possibly be critical is Bill Maher, but who cares? He's a pathetic troll of a loser who's got an HBO show that nobody watches.
Linda Hamilton is a hero today.
The end of NASA is the beginning of Muslim self-esteem boosts
When the Space Shuttle Atlantis landed this morning it officially and sadly marked the end of this era of manned space flight in the US. There are 90,000 mission control and other specialists associated with NASA that now find themselves with nothing much to do. It's a good thing Obama has decided that NASA's new mission will be to make Muslims feel good about their imaginary contributions to the progress of modern civilization.
Maybe with the end of government-funded space missions, the private sector will step up and begin commercial space adventures. They'll certainly be able to do it for far less money.

Planking, Leisure diving, and now owling
With everybody demanding attention from everybody else via the Internet, Twitter, Facebook, reality TV, etc., new fads have popped up by which these people can scream, "Look at me! Love me! Adore me! Give me attention!".
Here are the latest ways people are demonstrating their infantile need to be looked at.....
This is called "planking" where you make like a plank of wood in unusual places and have your picture taken.
This is "leisure diving" where you strike a leisure pose over the pool and have your picture taken. This one is called the "hammock".
The most recent posing fad is called "owling" where you make like an owl in some unusual place. These girls are making like owls on a fence.
It seems pretty stupid to me, but if it keeps the kids off the streets and out of trouble, I probably shouldn't complain. Just consider this your daily Internet-meme briefing. Go home and describe each of these posing fads to your kids and they might start to believe that you're cool.

Obama is Jimmy Carter's redux
Over at Moonbattery, they've got a clip from the Laura Ingraham show where the "National Malaise" speech of Jimmy Carter is superimposed on Obama's recent national malaise speech and you'd swear Obama's speech writers practically plagiarized Carter. Give it a listen...
Like Jimmy Carter before him, Obama is presiding over, if not entirely causing, the worst economic calamity to befall the US in generations. And like Carter before him, Obama blames the wealthy job creators and the greedy middle class for it all.
If you read Obama's writings, he clearly says that America needs to suffer for her past colonial sins against the poor minorities. Why, it's almost as if the trouble we're in is purposefully choreographed.

I try not to delight in the untimely deaths of other human beings, but I can honestly say that I chuckled at this story...
From WYFF4.com -- COWPENS, S.C. -- Thousands of people in Cherokee County were left without power overnight Monday after a man was killed trying to steal copper from a Duke Energy substation, according to firefighters at the scene.
I don't know about you, but Monday night is must-see TV at our house. If a dude inconveniences everybody by causing massive outages because he failed at being a copper thief, and gets killed in the process.....GOOD!

Krauthammer humiliates Nina Totenberg
Charles Krauthammer eviscerates NPR's Nina Totenberg who looks like a quivering, Obama lapdog after he gets through with her....
From Newsbusters -- KRAUTHAMMER: My colleagues are demonstrating a point I’ve been trying to make about how you have a completely compliant, pliant, supine press accepting every leak out of the White House. Tell me, we have been told, I’ve heard it again and again that the President’s prepared to do, to make cuts in entitlements. Name me one.
Nina just kept parroting the white house lines about how Obama is prepared to make dramatic cuts in entitlements but CK wisely demands to be shown a single one, yet Totenberg just stammers and falls back on her administration talking points. CK made her look like a small child.
I hope CK isn't expecting a Christmas party invite from the Totenbergs.
It's not the bulb, it's the government mandate
Over at TIME, Bryan Walsh has an article blasting conservatives for opposing the idiotic efficiency standards imposed by the 100w incandescent bulb ban signed by Bush-43. His predictable, misguided point is that the Earth is over crowded, over heated, and short on resources so why isn't a mandate for the use of efficient bulbs good for the collective?
If Bryan had stopped preaching smug environmentalism long enough to ask, he would have found that it isn't the efficient bulb we oppose, it's the heavy-handed government ban of the incandescent bulb used to force consumers to buy something we don't want, that we oppose. If Obama's pal at GE, Jeffery Immelt, could manufacture a better, more efficient bulb and at a competitive price, I'd be the first one in line to buy it. But it's not a proper function of government to ban one perfectly good product in order to force consumers to purchase an inferior, more expensive product that couldn't otherwise compete in the market place, in order to specifically benefit a political friend.
Bryan Walsh ignores the fact that Earth hasn't warmed in 15 years because it negates the need to keep the planet cool so as not to discomfort the polar bears. He also ignores the very, very limited role of government in a thriving market economy. But intellectually superior liberals always think that if it sounds like a good idea to them, then it's OK for government to force that idea on everybody.

Anticipating more extreme heat in an already extremely hot summer, here's Oklahoma's governor's plan to deal with it....
From MSNBC -- In the thick of the heat wave is Oklahoma where Gov. Mary Fallin asked Oklahomans to pray for rain this Sunday.
"The power of prayer is a wonderful thing, and I would ask every Oklahoman to look to a greater power this weekend and ask for rain," Fallin said in a news release on Thursday.
I hate to be the one to point out the obvious, but that's not how weather works. If you accept that God goes around preventing hot weather and drought because people prayed for it, then you must also accept that God specifically intends to kill every person who dies in a tornado, hurricane, flash flood, lightening, etc.
Why not just accept that God created Earth to be a dynamic, living planet on which the weather is sometimes violent, deadly, or very uncomfortable? What happens when it doesn't rain? Can Oklahomans conclude that God has abandoned them? Considering Mike Stoops' inability to win a bowl game, I'd say that's a foregone conclusion already.....heh heh.
If you're depressed about the end of Harry Potter, you might be a moron
This is the headline over at WashingtonTimes -- Grief counseling for Muggles mourning final ‘Harry Potter’ film
Grief counseling? Get a grip you retards, it's a movie!
They should compile a list of all the people who request counseling and provide this list to employers as people who are so detached from reality and emotionally disabled by a story of fiction that they are wholly unemployable.
Grief counseling....this is what's wrong with America. We've devolved into a nation of emotionally retarded pantie wastes who're unable to distinguish fact from fiction, reality from fantasy, and important from trivial. Good grief!

Female Apache pilot kicks some terrorist butt
I wonder how humiliating it is for a Muslim jihadist to get killed by a woman? I hope plenty humiliating for his family too....
I guessing the benevolent pedophile Mohammad said something, somewhere in the Koran about martyrdom at the hands of an infidel woman being akin to blasphemy or something. Heh heh....instead of virgins, these guys probably get goats in the afterlife.

Obama still wasting our money
Regular reader Barry posted this on his FB page so I swiped it.
From Accuracy In Media -- The U. S. State Department yesterday announced that the Obama Administration has agreed to contribute $4 billion to the United Nations Global Fund to fight AIDs, Tuberculosis, and Malaria from 2011 to 2013.
The $4 billion represents a 38% increase over the previous U.S. commitment to the fund.
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that a total of $11.7 billion has been raised from 40 countries, the European Commission, faith-based organizations, private foundations, and various corporations.
This means that over one-third of the money will come from the pockets of US taxpayers.
Oil-rich nations like Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, and the United Arab Emirates contribute next to nothing, and China, which holds most of the US $14 trillion debt, agreed to provide a measly $14 million.
The contemptible United Nations is the closest thing to a world government for which liberal globalists like Obama pine. It would seem that no amount of domestic debt and economic trouble will prevent Obama from subjugating the interests of the US to that of the UN's demand for our money. The despots, dictators, and thugs that control the UN couldn't be more anti-American. Why liberals adore this utterly corrupt organization escapes me.

All your income are belong to us
All I can say is WOW! Just WOW!
From CommentaryMagazine -- (Obama) And I do not want, and I will not accept, a deal in which I am asked to do nothing, in fact, I'm able to keep hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional income that I don't need, while a parent out there who is struggling to figure out how to send their kid to college suddenly finds that they've got a couple thousand dollars less in grants or student loans
Either Obama's level of economic illiteracy is nothing short of jaw-dropping, or he understands exactly how utterly devastating a policy like this would be, yet he admits his desire to have it as official policy. Either way, this shows how dangerous Obama is to the idea of capital investment and market economics. My God, it continues to astonish me that the guilty, white media installed this man as President!

Is Caylee's Law a good idea?
As pointed out by Maia Szalavitz over at Healthland.Time, when ever there's a big, emotional verdict involving the mistreatment of a child, the understandable, knee-jerk response is to enact immediate legislation that will prevent this in the future. The law's are inevitably named for the child whose murder or whatever, it would have prevented. There's Jessica's Law, Megan's Law, Three Strikes, and Adam's Law, and others. Now in the wake of the Casey Anthony not-guilty verdict, lawmakers in dozens of states, eager to pander to outraged voters, are introducing versions of Caylee's Law which would make it a felony to not report a dead child within an hour of death or a missing child within 24 hours. But should legislation formed in the heat of the moment be adopted this quickly as law? There are unintended consequences of such hastily enacted law.
Megan's Law is intended to harshly restrict any sex offender(even if it's a high school kid who forwards a topless pic that his teen girlfriend sent to him) in terms of where they can live and work. What its done is force these guys off the grid entirely where they are much harder to keep up with.
Three strikes laws are to protect victims from repeat felony offenders. Sounds great, but it was written too broadly and now virtually every state that has a three-strikes law has extreme prison overcrowding because kids who get caught with pot three times are being sent away for 25 years with no chance of parole.
The instances of negative consequences are numerous, but they all stem from politicians' willingness to curry favor with voters by quickly, and without much thought, enacting legislation in the heat of the moment.
Take a look at Caylee's Law. Can all parents be expected to know the exact time of death of their child? What if it drowned in a pool, unknown to the parents for an hour and a half? Caylee's Law as written would make those parents felons. Who would be the arbiter of the clock regarding time of death? Can time of death be pinpointed to within a couple of minutes? Other than the Casey Anthony example of not reporting as missing or dead, her daughter Caylee, how often does this sort of thing happen? Is a new sweeping law necessary? Name one other crime that it would have prevented.
These laws named after the children whose victimization the law is intended to prevent are bad ideas because they are borne out of emotion and very little reason and logic.

Sick day
Sorry for the light posting over the weekend and today. I woke up at 2:00 Saturday morning with a serious case of the chills, and I haven't been able to shake this fever ever since and my kidneys are probably protesting about all the Ibuprofen-800's. I'm home today but all I feel like doing is sleeping. Maybe I can get back on track tomorrow.
Tiger's big announcement
Tiger Woods is set to have a surprise press conference today at 11 AM ET. There is much speculation as to what it is, everything from retirement to he's taking a year off to have surgery to an explanation regarding his relationship with that trainer who got busted with performance enhancing drugs.
But here are a few alternative announcements that we might hear:
-Tiger's taking his talents to South Beach
-He'll start playing basketball for the Miami Heat because he wants Lebron to finally get a ring
-He's announcing that he's been gay all along and all the women were just cover
-He's taking some time off to help Casey Anthony find the real killer
Feel free to add your own predictions in the comments thread.
UPDATE: OK, here's the 411 on Tiger's big announcement. It was a press release by one of his people saying that Tiger and his agent Mark Steinberg were taking their talents to Excel Sports Management.......so frickin' what? He'd better start winning again or ESM won't want him hanging around A-listers like Derek Jeter and Ryan Howard.

It's not easy being green
Earlier this week it was shown that harmless CO2 was actually cooling the Earth rather than warming it as environmentalists hysterically bleat. Now we have confirmation of what thinking people have known all along...stupid electric cars have a larger CO2 footprint than regular gas-burning cars because of all the energy required to build the cumbersome, expensive, and short-lived batteries to power them....
From TheAustralian via Michelle Malkin -- ELECTRIC cars could produce higher emissions over their lifetimes than petrol equivalents because of the energy consumed in making their batteries, a study has found.
But environmentalists never let a trivial obstacle like reality interfere with the smug self-righteousness they feel for driving an electric car.

No Client #9 to kick around any more
Eliot Spitzer, or as we call him Client #9, had his dreadfully boring show on CNN cancelled. He was getting outrated by Keith Olbermann's show on Current TV which broadcasts on an obscure, local-access UHF frequency and by RedEye on Fox, which comes on at 3AM. Times are indeed tough when a disgraced liberal governor who used his state's highest priced prostitute service can't get other liberals to listen to him prattle on about current events.
Heh heh...maybe if they added Casey Anthony as co-host they could get a few more months of show.
Boogie Woogie
I don't dance, but if I could dance like this....well, I'd dance once in a while. Check out this couple. If you don't have fun watching this then you are utterly dead inside....
GM in another hole
One of the biggest problems for GM for which they received $50billion from taxpayers to stay in business was a huge inventory of unsold vehicles. Obviously the insidious unions caused most of the problems, but unsold inventory contributed also. Apparently GM is pretty much back at the same point with unsold inventory that they were when they got taxpayer relief. Will GM need another infusion of taxpayer cash to fund lavish union contracts and will Obama skirt the Constitution to shore up union support for 2012?
Over at DougRoss@Journal, Doug sums the GM bailout debacle pretty succinctly...
You mean that abrogating bankruptcy law, screwing over secured creditors and rewarding Democrats' union supporters with billions in equity, tax breaks and subsidies didn't really fix GM?
He's right. Corporate welfare for GM didn't get them to improve their shoddy business practices any more than welfare to individuals motivates them to change the behavior that made them poor in the first place. Why change what you're doing when other peoples' money will be given to you for not changing?
US bankruptcy laws were completely ignored in order to funnel billions of taxpayer money to Obama's union friends. Who's going to stop the utterly corrupt Obama union machine from doing it again and using "too big to fail" as a rationale?

Now that's irony
People tend label as ironic things that are just coincidences. Like in that Alanis Morissette song Ironic, she lists 'rain on your wedding day', 'he won the lottery and died the next day', and just to keep it rhyming, 'a fly in your Chardonnay' as being ironic. But these things aren't ironic, they're just things that are bad that happened to some body.
There are many definitions of ironic but I feel certain this story exemplifies it perfectly.....
From the Huffingtonpost -- ONONDAGA, N.Y. -- Police say a motorcyclist participating in a protest ride against helmet laws in upstate New York died after he flipped over the bike's handlebars and hit his head on the pavement.
I don't think it gets any more ironic than that.
Did Casey Anthony get away with murder?
About an hour ago, Casey Anthony was found not guilty on the 4 serious counts of murder, man-1, man-2, etc, but guilty of lying to the cops. So basically she got off. This raises a few questions....
-Was there a miscarriage of justice here? Should she have been convicted based on the evidence shown?
-Is the bar for a murder-1 conviction too high in this country? Should it be lowered so that people who we "know" did it like OJ and Casey, get convicted?
-Can we as a nation afford to abandon the "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard without abandoning what makes our legal system the fairest(but not perfect) in the world?
As inept and idiotic as Jose Baez was in presenting his defense, the prosecution just didn't have enough direct evidence to convince a jury to take the life of somebody. Everybody is complaining that "this just shows you can get away with murder in this country". And they're right, but what's the alternative? A system by which numerous innocent people get put to death by the State for crimes they didn't commit?
I'd rather have a system that occasionally lets a guilty person slip through the cracks than one by which innocent people are found guilty....and THAT still happens with regularity.
West Philly granny has been watching the news
My friend Pat over at Belchspeak posted this story about a kid in a west-Philly ghetto who ate too much of his granny's bacon. Apparently she's been paying attention to the news, that is if she owns a TV, because she chased him around the yard, sat on top of him, and water boarded him with a hose jet to the face as punishment for scarfing down the delicious pig meat.
Heh heh....that'll teach him.
I blame Obama for not closing Club Gitmo. But for the CIA water boarding vacationers at the tropical paradise resort, the water boarding technique wouldn't be so popular and granny would have just beaten him with a belt like everybody else.
For all you longsuffering parents out there with misbehaving kids, I've included this helpful primer on waterboarding. Who says TRR isn't educational?

Pollution is our friend
The insanity that is the man-made global warming movement received yet another nail in its coffin....
From (Reuters) -- Smoke belching from Asia's rapidly growing economies is largely responsible for a halt in global warming in the decade after 1998 because of sulphur's cooling effect, even though greenhouse gas emissions soared.
Turns out the sulphur in pollution reflects the sun light, actually cooling the Earth.
Not to be deterred by little things like facts, no doubt the Obama administration through the EPA will continue aggressively closing coal power plants in the US in the name of this insidious hoax perpetrated on the world by petty tyrants whose lust for power over the rest of us knows no bounds.

Schools thrive without union thuggery
Over at the WashingtonExaminer, Byron York has an article that shows what an immediate and drastic improvement Wisconsin schools have seen since the collective bargaining law was signed into law by republican Gov. Scott Walker...
The Kaukauna School District, in the Fox River Valley of Wisconsin near Appleton, has about 4,200 students and about 400 employees. It has struggled in recent times and this year faced a deficit of $400,000. But after the law went into effect, at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, school officials put in place new policies they estimate will turn that $400,000 deficit into a $1.5 million surplus. And it's all because of the very provisions that union leaders predicted would be disastrous.
See, you take collective bargaining out of the labor market and have public sector workers contribute to retirement and benefits like everybody else, and suddenly you are flush with cash. Let's hope this stands as an example of what should be done around the country where union goons control everything and entitled government bureaucrats' wallets get fat thanks to the taxpayers.
It's Canada Day?
Apparently there's such a thing as Canada Day...who knew? What there is to celebrate about Canada other than the exportation of some really talented comedians to the US, I haven't a clue. Whatever.....here's William Shatner singing the Canadian national anthem to mark the occasion....
The timely demise of Hugo Chavez....at long last
Over at MSN this a.m. the headline read "Venezuelans stunned by Chavez cancer revelation".....yeah stunned and thrilled.
Thanks to Chavez being a brutal, murdering dictator, nationalizing foreign industries, and establishing a true socialist state in Venezuela, a nation that was once a wealthy breadbasket of South America has, in less than a generation, plunged into poverty, despair, and is the butt of jokes by free people the world over. After all if Sean Penn and Danny Glover are your friends, you know what a demented screw up you are.
Nobody knows what will happen when the devil mercifully comes to take Chavez away to hell at long last, but utter chaos created by a power vacuum in Venezuela would have to be better than what they have now. Here's hoping that Chavez' remaining days are short and uncomfortable.
