“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Socialist Party presidential candidate Norman Thomas

Good point

I was just listening to Neal Boortz and there was some caller complaining about the unfairness of America by pointing out the existence of "haves" and the "have-nots" in this country. Neal made the excellent point that unless you are mentally retarded, if you were born in this country, you, by definition, are a "have". No country on Earth offers more opportunities, regardless of socio-economic status at birth, than America. The only question is the degree to which you take advantage of them.

Here are a few other phrases popular with democrats which all conservatives should recognize as red flags of liberalism...

"filthy rich"...textbook class envy from liberals which conveys the idea that if you are rich, you must have gotten your money unfairly by stepping on the back of the common man, and are therefor dirty. This is how liberals justify the hideous progressive tax scheme they use to seize money from the achieving, productive class and give it to the loafing class...aka, democrat voters.

"income redistribution"...this deceptive liberal favorite is based on the assumption that income is "distributed" in the first place. Income is not distributed, it's earned.

"tax cuts for the rich"...this is a class envy ploy used by liberals when talking to their hand-out voters. It impunes Americans who earn and achieve as having gotten their wealth infairly. Tax cuts are for people who pay taxes. The bottom 50% of wage earners(democrat voters) pay only 5% of the federal taxes collected by the government. How can you give a tax cut to people who don't pay taxes?

"working Americans"...this is also a class envy ruse which conveys the idea that the rich don't work. The truth is that if you are willing to work in America, you will never be poor for long. With the exception of the trust fund babies like Ted Kennedy, the rich are rich precisely because they worked harder than anybody else. (Reminder: Ted Kennedy has never done anything productive. He has sucked at the public teat his entire professional life.)

"giving back to society"...use of this phrase assumes that success or wealth was "given" to begin with. Giving is great, but it's not "giving back" when one chooses to simply give.

"winners of life's lottery"...this was a favorite phrase with democrat "Tricky" Dick Gephardt. He used it to convey the message that success and failure in life is total chance--like a lottery. If wealth and poverty are doled out at random, he reasoned, then that is patently unfair and we should take from the winners and give to the losers....socialism in a nutshell.

Are you detecting a pattern here? Fostering envy between phony classes of Americans is how the Democrats divide and conquer. And that's one of the biggest differences between liberals and conservatives: liberals say, "Those evil rich took what rightfully belongs to everybody. Hate the rich." Conservatives say, "If you make good decisions and work hard, you too can be rich."

Which one are you?

This is hilarious!

I know you've heard about nut-job preacher Fred Phelps. He and his sychophant followers go around protesting funerals of US servicemen killed in Iraq to draw attention to their anti-homosexual agenda. Here they are protesting something or other and this guy deals with their hate in the best way possible...humor. Nothing makes hateful people look stupider than when the targets of their hate make fun of them.

No matter what is given, it's never enough...

Am I the only one who is going to vomit if I hear one more whining minority demand reparations for slavery?

A black rights organisation has said Prime Minister Tony Blair's declaration of "deep sorrow" for Britain's role in the slave trade did not go far enough and failed to address the issue of compensation.

Blair said the bicentenary of the trade's abolition next year offered the opportunity to condemn Britain's past involvement in slavery.

But his statement in black community newspaper New Nation, stopped short of a full apology, in what activists said was an attempt to stave off demands for reparations.

"Blair's article is taking a backward step from Britain's official position in 1807 when it abolished the trade and expressed regret for what had happened," said Kofi Mawuli Klu of rights group Rendezvous of Victory.

"This has heightened feelings among people in the African community. We want an apology of substance that addresses the demands for African reparations," he added.

In his statement, Blair said: "I believe the bicentenary offers us a chance not just to say how profoundly shameful the slave trade was - how we condemn its existence utterly and praise those who fought for its abolition - but also to express our deep sorrow that it ever could have happened."

When are these whining blacks going to stop blaming whites for all their current problems? Slavery ended 200 years ago -- 200 YEARS AGO!!! Why does Blair's apology count for anything? He didn't own slaves. That's as idiotic as expecting me to come to your burned down house and apologize for the vandals who lit the fire. Would that make you feel better? Of course not.

This is about money. Blacks want to blame anything but their own bad decisions for the predicaments they find themselves in, and guilt-ridden, whitey liberals make easy targets. Assigning collective, inherited guilt based on skin color makes it easy to demand other peoples' money, because they are demanding it from society as a whole rather than specific individuals.

I didn't own slaves, but my great-great-great-great grand parents may have and guess what? I'm not sorry! How can I be sorry for something I didn't do? Why should the distant decendants of victims of some societal wrong have a right to my property and wealth as compensation for a crime which I didn't commit, and from which they didn't suffer? It is infuriating to me when politicians cave to political correctness and pander to this nonsense. Worse, it encourages the race-mongers like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton to demand still more. These guys make their livings perpetuating racism where ever their imaginations can conjure it up. And other blacks are happy to be absolved of responsibility for their own lives by blaming white society for their problems.

I'm generally a fan of Tony Blair but this is embarassing and pathetic.

If blacks want to improve the lives of other black people, start by staying off drugs, not having babies out of wedlock, staying in school, and finally by doing something about the slavery that still exists today in of all places--Africa. That's right -- black people keeping other black people as slaves...in the motherland. Where's their outrage about that? You'll be shocked, shocked I say to hear that there's no money to be gotten from African slave-holders.

Why, it's almost as if their pretend outrage is all about getting money they didn't earn and not so much about helping black people.

And the wheel goes round and round

Well, it looks like the Tide won't have Mike Shula to blame for a nose-diving football program anymore, and Auburn fans are sad to see the age of automatic wins over Alabama coming to a close. As a Georgia fan, I was looking forward to kicking Alabama around for four years as they get back on our schedule again at some point in the next few years.

Astonishingly, the Tide nation remains myopically fixated to the memory of "Bear" Bryant. They refuse to believe that there are no longer any coaches with any connection to the Bear left in football. This is why they hired Mike Shula. "If there are no more former coach assistants of the Bear, let's go hire a former player so we can keep the "Bear family" thing going."

People, it's been like 20 years. Go find a quality coach regardless of whether he has previous Bama ties, or has ever heard of Bear Bryant. As long as they continue to cling to the memory of Bear Bryant like a child clings to a rag doll, the football program will continue to decline and the carousel of coaches will continue to turn year after year. Soon, Alabama will be in the ranks with Kentucky, Vandy, Ole Miss and the other bottom feeders of the SEC.

No good deed goes unpunished

See, this is why many Americans hesitate before doing something nice for strangers...

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A church that wanted to do something special for Hurricane Katrina victims gave a $75,000 house, free and clear, to a couple who said they were left homeless by the storm. But the couple turned around and sold the place without ever moving in, and went back to New Orleans.
"Take it up with God," an unrepentant Joshua Thompson told a TV reporter after it was learned that he and the woman he identified as his wife had flipped the home for $88,000.
Church members said they feel that their generosity was abused by scam artists. They are no longer even sure that the couple were left homeless by Katrina — or that they were a couple at all.
"They came in humble like they really needed a new start, and our hearts went out to them," said Jean Phillips, a real-estate agent and member of the Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ. "They actually begged for the home."
Church members also were shocked by an ungrateful interview the couple gave to WHBQ-TV in Memphis.
"I really don’t like this area," said Delores Thompson. "I really didn’t, and I didn’t know anybody, so that’s why I didn’t move in and I sold it."
Americans are the most charitable and generous people on the planet by any measure. Then along comes a pair of ingrates like these two jerks who punish an entire congregation for being nice to them.
These loathsome wretches deserve, in a karmic sort of way, for their current house to be burned to the ground, and I hope it happens to them...and they don't have insurance.
I don't generally take pleasure in the suffering of others...Oh, who am I kidding? Of course I do...expecially when they deserve it. And nobody deserves to suffer like these two.

Between Iraq and a hard place

I no longer see any reasonable or acceptable way out of this...

BAGHDAD, Nov. 25 — The insurgency in Iraq is now self-sustaining financially, raising tens of millions of dollars a year from oil smuggling, kidnapping, counterfeiting, connivance by corrupt Islamic charities and other crimes that the Iraqi government and its American patrons have been largely unable to prevent, a classified United States government report has concluded.
The report, obtained by The New York Times, estimates that groups responsible for many insurgent and terrorist attacks are raising $70 million to $200 million a year from illegal activities. It says $25 million to $100 million of that comes from oil smuggling and other criminal activity involving the state-owned oil industry, aided by “corrupt and complicit” Iraqi officials.
As much as $36 million a year comes from ransoms paid for hundreds of kidnap victims, the report says. It estimates that unnamed foreign governments — previously identified by American officials as including France and Italy — paid $30 million in ransom last year.

Here's the current situation in Iraq as it stands right now: Shiites and Sunni Muslims are killing each other at an astonishing rate -- a civil war by any standard. Iran and Syria are financing the flooding of Iraq with crazed jihadists who're willing and able to blow themselves up to kill other jihadists and Americans. The Iraqi army and civilian malitia are infested with crazed jihadists who use the authority of their uniforms to kill other Muslims who are not Sunni or Shiite, whichever they are. Al Maliki is not strong enough to lead a country at war with itself. Joe Biden's idea of partitioning the country is a fine idea but in practice how do you do that? Sunni and Shiite have been waring for generations and we cannot stop it. Saddam Hussein was an evil, piece of garbage and it's good that he's gone but can we judge that the power vacuum he leaves behind has lead to something better? And finally, 3000, give or take, dead Americans, not to mention the American tax-payer funded treasure expended to accomplish what exactly?

Look, if we had gone in there with overwhelming force and a plan to deal with this inevitable insurgency, rather than with the touchy-feely, kinder gentler warplan that we waged, we probably could have accomplished something definable as winning. With the whining liberals in America constantly harping about civilian casualties at every turn, I honestly don't see how we can wage ANY war ANY WHERE, successfully. If you are going to attack a country, you have to accept beforehand, huge numbers of civilian casualties, especially when the enemy cowardly disguises itself as civilian.

Seriously, what is the answer here? Where do we go now? Continue like we are today for the next ten years or more -- a few hundered Iraqi civilian and insurgent deaths alonside a half dozen Americans dead each week? That scenario is totally unacceptable! The elected Iraqi government is incompetent, corrupt, and weak. The American people will only tolerate so much useless American deaths without a plan for victory...this probably explains the mid-term election results as much as anything. As much as I loathe the sniveling, liberals in this country, we may end up putting up with some sort of embarassing scheduled pull-out like they suggest, that is if we're not going back in full force and obliterate the insurgency, with the understanding and acceptance of millions of civilian casualties. Sadly, America just doesn't have the guts for that kind of warfare any more.

I'm afraid there's no palatable way out of Iraq now. Given that, what's the plan?

One friend suggested that we take all the leftover Katrina dingleberries still demanding tax-payer support, and give them Baghdad to rebuild...at least they won't have to worry about flooding. Hey, it's as good a suggestion as any I've heard from Washington.

Multiculturalism....Ugh!

As a parent, how peeved would you be if your child's teacher performed a stunt like this?

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Teacher Bill Morgan walks into his third-grade class wearing a black Pilgrim hat made of construction paper and begins snatching up pencils, backpacks and glue sticks from his pupils. He tells them the items now belong to him because he "discovered" them. The reaction is exactly what Morgan expects: The kids get angry and want their things back.

Morgan is among elementary school teachers who have ditched the traditional Thanksgiving lesson, in which children dress up like Indians and Pilgrims and act out a romanticized version of their first meetings.

He has replaced it with a more realistic look at the complex relationship between Indians and white settlers.

Morgan said he still wants his pupils at Cleveland Elementary School in San Francisco to celebrate Thanksgiving. But "what I am trying to portray is a different point of view."

This is the insane, multicultural idiocy that liberals embrace every day in this country. Liberals believe that all white people are genetically evil, victimizing all other races and cultures, and we must therefor spend our lives making up for it by teaching our children how utopian and pristine the native American culture was before the disease-ridden white devils came and ruined everything.

Well as long as we're telling the "truth" about life in the fourteen hundreds, why not tell about how the savage Indians scalped their enemies alive and raped and traded women as property. I'll bet that teacher in California didn't share that with his class.

These are elementary school kids for heaven's sake! When they grow up and go off to college, they can be taught that America is the root of all evil in the modern world there, but not in elementary school.

Dumb liberal of the week

The oft skewered Cindy Sheehan, tired of her protests being ingnored in the U.S., traveled across the big pond to protest with other smelly hippies in South Korea this week. The U.S. wants to expand the number of U.S. bases there in the face of looming threats to our close ally by the communist North Koreans.

Look at this picture and see if something is amiss. Is there anything sadder than dumb-hippie protesters who can't spell their own protest signs?

These guys got off easy

Six Imams were removed from a flight in Minneapolis after they stood during pre-flight and started reciting their prayers. Of course we all know that Muslims face Mecca like 5 times a day and engage in a prayer ritual. I don't know about you, but anybody, much less Muslim Imams, reciting prayers before a flight would understandably freak me out. This is the reality of air-travel since 9/11. In the U.S. you don't get to behave weirdly anywhere near airplanes. If it had been English soccer hooligans who had hijacked the three 9/11 flights, not to mention all the other terrorist attacks around the world, rather than Muslims, then people with English accents, cut-off Union Jack t-shirts, and beer breath would be highly suspect.

But it was Muslims who attacked us on 9/11. Go down the list of terrorist incidents in the past 20 years and 99% of them were by radical Muslims. For these guys to complain about the treatment of Muslims in this country is preposterous. Muslims get treated better in the U.S. than in any other country, including the Muslim ones. These six guys are lucky they didn't get their butts whipped by some good ol' boys on the flight. How are Americans supposed to know that these guy are just saying their harmless daily prayers and not their "final" prayers before starting to kill passengers? There's no way to know without speaking Arabic, and I wouldn't have blamed the passengers if they had attacked the Imams pre-emptively.

Liberal double standard

By now I'm sure you've heard about Michael Richards "N-word" rant at a comedy club. He was reacting to a couple of black hecklers. Richards attempted to control the damage last night by going on Letterman by satellite to apologize. Jerry Seinfeld was the guest on Letterman, which propably marked the first time since the show ended that these two comedic geniuses shared the stage. It was absolutely surreal to me to have two of the funniest guys on Earth trying to be serious on a late-night comedy show. At one point during Richard's attempted apology the audience was giggling, obviously in anticipation of "Kramer" doing something funny, and Jerry said, "Stop laughing, it's not funny." I kept waiting for a punch-line too, even though I knew none was coming.

One, if you're a comedian, you don't go on Letterman to apologize for doing something stupid and indelicate and expect people not to laugh. And two, if he had just said, "Look, I'm not a professional stand-up comedian. I don't know how to handle hecklers. I was humiliated and embarassed and I lashed out at these two guys, sorry.", he wouldn't have to do all this public groveling. Just be honest.

Then astonishingly, Richards went on to link his conflict with the hecklers to the US conflict with Iraq. Of course liberal Letterman let him get away completely with this.

Mel Gibson, who had booze to blame, said basically the same thing and his problems are far from over still. Do you think the media deal with liberal-leaning stars differently than conservative-leaning stars like Gibson?

Milton Friedman -- RIP

Economist Milton Friedman passed away yesterday. His contributions to conservative thought are unmatched in my estimation. His professional accomplishments in economics and general social policy include:

-pursuading President Nixon to abolosh the military draft, reasoning correctly that an all volunteer fighting force would fight harder and stay enlisted longer.
-advancing the notion of laissez-faire capitalism...that is, the government should stay out of the private market and let men acting in their own self-interest determine market dynamics. Example: it was traders who discovered Enron's crimes, not government regulators. And traders, operating in the free market, punished Enron within days of the discovery by driving it's stock price down to nothing. It would have taken the government years to figure it all out and dole out punishment.
-advocating school vouchers long before it became en vogue to conservatives. He reasoned that free-market competition in education would quickly eliminate bad schools and elevate productive schools by letting parents choose which school their kid attended. He was absolutely right.

These three things stand out to me as Milton Friedman's greatest contributions to American society. He championed the ideas of individual liberty and freedom when few others were. Reading about his philosophies stands as a reminder to me of how far the Republican party has fallen from it's conservative roots.

America needs some more Milton Friedmans.

Dumb perp of the week

Stupid punk arguing disrespectfully with cops and gets tasered = funny.

Punk getting mad because cops tasered him and gets tasered again = hysterical.

Situation escalating as punk gets angrier at cops who're tasering him and cops keep tasering him because he's getting angrier = deleriously priceless!

If you haven't seen the video of that idiot in the UCLA computer lab getting tasered 4 times by the cops, go to YouTube and watch it....it's frickin' hilarious. He's yelling about the Patriot Act, abuse of police power, and brutality in between screams during the tasering. I just love these stupid guys who think they don't have to do what the cops tell them to.

I mean has there ever been a guy who refused to obey the cops and didn't get his butt kicked?

These kind of stories never cease to entertain me. And it's all on YouTube and I can watch it over and over.

Seriously, if you've never seen an angry perp get tasered, IT IS FUNNY!!!

Thank goodness for Marines

My friend Frank e-mailed this to me this morning. You just know media liberals hate when this happens...

Katie Couric, while interviewing a Marine sniper, asked: "What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist?"
The Marine shrugged and replied: "Recoil."

(Hard to fault a Marine that eloquent)

Semper Fi!

SanFranNan steps in it

Much to my delight, SanFranNan Pelosi, the new democratic Speaker of the House, has managed to lose her very first battle as the third most powerful politician in Washington. She promised that this new Congress would be the cleanest, and least corrupt Congress of all time. So to that end she supports John Murtha, of ABSCAM fame, as her number two. Nan couldn't intimidate the rest of the Dem caucus by twisting their arms, and Hoyer got elected as majority leader.

I can only hope that whoever advised her that the America-hating Murtha was a good choice, given the conservative Democrats who just got elected, keeps advising her. This should be fun to watch.

Crying wolf in Japan

I'm ashamed to have to admit that I was quite disappointed to hear about the 16 inch tsunami which "struck" Japan this morning, after excited predictions of 6-8 foot waves forced mass evacuations. I was looking forward to some very dramatic devastation and mayhem. It was reported that the largest wave was the single 16 inch wave that lapped the sandy shore, followed by an 8 inch "wave", and then a 3 inch "wave".

I'm curious though, how do they know that a 3 inch tsunami hit Japan? Maybe a clumsy reporterette accidentally stepped in the water a few yards away. How did they even determine the 16 inch wave was a tsunami, among the other waves washing ashore? I make a bigger wave when I jump in the tub.

In a nutshell

Just in case you need a reminder of what's wrong with the Republican Party, look no further than the news that moronic Republicans elected Trent Lott to the Senate minority whip this morning.

Trent Lott is the quintessential, old-school, big-spending Republican. He's the exact type of "conservative" voters rejected last week. If this is the Republicans' front-line defense against creeping liberalism, we're in a world of trouble already. Lott is part of the problem, not the solution.

I've been getting a lot of comment spam lately(comes with the territory I guess). Comment spam is typically done by a computer hitting every blog it can find and leaving a generic advertisement as a comment. Any time you see a "comment deleted" message in the comment window of a post, it is almost always my deletion of comment spam. To defeat this practice, I have enabled the "word verification" function in the comments section. It simply requires you to read a word and type that word in a box before it lets you post a comment. Humans can perform this simple exercise but computers cannot. I hope this doesn't inhibit your commenting on this blog--it only takes a second or two.

Sorry for this minor inconvenience, Ed

Trouble in the big pond

Heads will roll for this goof...

A Chinese submarine stalked a U.S. aircraft carrier battle group in the Pacific last month and surfaced within firing range of its torpedoes and missiles before being detected.

How in the world does a Chinese sub sneak up on a state-of-the-art aircraft carrier? Surely we had our radar turned on! There is no reasonable explanation for a potential, enemy air or water craft getting within weapons range of a US aircraft carrier. Whoever ignored that curious blip-blip on the radar screen should be drummed out of the service entirely...unbelievable!

Don't fall for the minimum wage ruse

Here are some minimum wage statistics borrowed from Walter Williams that I'll bet you won't hear from Democrats or the mainstream media...

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:
1. 63% of minimum wage workers earn a raise within one year of employment
2. Only 15% of minimum wage workers still earn min. wage after 3 years
3. Only 3% of all hourly workers, and 2% of wage and salary earners make minimum wage
4. 53% of minimum wage earners are between ages 16 - 24 (ie. they are young and still single)
5. Only 5.3% of minimum wage earners are from households below the poverty line
6. 40% of minimum wage earners live in households with incomes of $60,000 and higher
7. Over 82% of minimum wage earners do not have dependents

Based on these statistics, it is obvious that when the Democrats and media tell us that the minimum wage must support millions of families of four and therefor must be a "living wage", they are lying! Liberals use the minimum wage canard to appear compassionate. The appearance of compassion buys them favor with their willing accomplices in the media, and the hand-out voters will dutifully vote for their Democrat patrons in Congress who keep the goody bags coming.

The truth about the minimum wage debate is that Democrats are interested in the welfare of the poor only in the sense that the poor continue to vote for them. It's the labor unions who the Democrats are really trying to please. Democrats have always been slaves to the labor unions and union labor contracts are almost always tied to the minimum wage. Anytime you have a minimum wage increase, the pay of union workers goes up by some factor. If you don't believe me, check out the AFL-CIO(America's largest labor union) website. It's full of minimum wage propoganda. AFL-CIO workers don't make the minimum wage, they are obscenely overpaid.

Democrats need as many Americans to remain on the government dole as possible to assure a broad voting base. Heaven forbid if people are motivated to improve their lives and as a result, no longer need the assistance of government programs to survive. Why do you think successful, achieving tax-payers generally vote Republican?

What Democrats don't tell you is that whenever the minimum wage is raised, many workers lose their jobs and the prices of goods and services goes up accordingly for the consumers. Democrats don't care one bit about the consequences of their actions, as long as they appear compassionate around election time and it tricks gullible Americans into voting for them.

Scumbag of the year

Predictably, K-Fed is suing Britney Spears (fabulously rich pop star) for sole custody of their two kids. I'm sure it has nothing to do whatsoever with the child support that comes with them. One wonders though, if K-Fed was such a great daddy, why he didn't sue Shar Jackson (poor ex-dancer) for sole custody of the two kids he has with her. You would think that even somebody as dumb as Britney could see through a schmuck like K-Fed's act.

A Contract for the 21st Century

It's funny. This morning I've heard 5 different congressmen remark in one way or another that what the GOP needs to do is what they did in '94 to win control of the House. That's 5 different references, either directly or indirectly, to Newt Gingrich's contract with America. Many people think that this defeat of current GOP office-holders pretty much puts McCain on the outs as far as the GOP nomination in '08 goes. With George Allen losing in Va. that leaves outsiders Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich as the fav's to go against Hill.

The assessment that the GOP needs another Contract-like movement to recapture the House and Senate in '08, is spot-on. Newt probably has too much persoal baggage to be electable and he's a little too much of a GOP company guy for my Liberterian tastes but, he's smarter than any candidate I can think of. If Romney stumbles and Newt's still in the game, I could vote for him.

The Republicans needed a time-out

The question everybody is asking is will the Republicans learn anything from this loss of power?

Well, look at what necessarily preceeded Ronald Reagan...Jimmy Carter, arguably the worst President in the last 100 years. Four years of Jimmy Carter's fecklessness and ineptidude, double-digit unemployment and inflation, the invention of the misery index because the media ran out of negative superlatives to describe the badness of his presidency, gas shortages resulting from Carter's price ceilings, an embarassing hostage rescue mission, killer rabbits, and lust, set the table for Reagan's ascendancy. Looking back, the glorious Reagan years, whose effects are still being felt, were worth tolerating four years of Jimmy Carter.

That being said, if we can make it two years with SanFranNan, I think it will usher in a new class of truly conservative, Reagan-Republicans. Nancy Pelosi is a vile, loathsome wretch, as are most Democrats in Washington, but as Speaker, she cannot hide her wretchedness nor that of her Party. Liberals being in power for two years will allow Republicans to purge their ranks of neo-conservatives in preparation for '08, divorce the Party from the evangelical right which seemed to control the Party of late, and re-embrace the conservative principles of small, limited government that got them elected back in '94.

It's worth the suffering now if in two years, we can do the Snoopydance to celebrate victory and a new, truly conservative path for America.

Election analysis

Alert reader Reid observed the following, among other things, in part (you can read his entire post in the comments section of the previous post)...

a) The GOP has lost a little touch with the masses within the country.
b) The US Supreme court will likely shift to the left. We need to have consevative intelligent jurists in these seats as opposed to Nancy Pelosi -ites liberally changing all our basic values upon a whim. Scary thought but possibly true.
c) We now have a split in power, making Bush's dealings with Congress more dificult. With the lame duck status he has, he has allowed for a bigger hurdle to overcome to get anything done, and it seems that daily plenty needs to get done.
d) It is high time for those of us on the right side to stand up and be heard.

Clearly, as Reid pointed out, the Republicans have completely forgotten why they were elected back in '94. Conservatives were promised smaller, limited government, the elimination of the department of education (an unmitigated disaster) and the return of education to the states, border security and fast, a reduction in spending and more transparency in government, and finally, safety from Islamic jihadist who want to kill us. What of those things got accomplished over the last 12 years and especially the last six when Republicans had total control of Congress? Answer: only the safety issue, but we could be attacked tomorrow, so we can't exactly say mission accomplished on that one either.

Bearing in mind that all mid-term elections are, in part, essentially referenda on the current President, here's my analysis...

1. Under Bush and the "conservatives" (really, they are neo-cons, not coservatives) the size and scope of government doubled. (anathema to true conservatives)
2. Not only did they not eliminate the education department, they doubled it's funding and the idiotic NCLB program diluted power away from the states and concentrated it in Washington. (centralization of power in the hands of the federal government is by definition, liberalism)
3. The dreadful transportation bill had more pork spending than any bill in history (ie. the bridge to nowhere in Alaska). (big-spending Republicans are liberals in sheep's clothing and cannot be trusted)
4. Bush never lifted the spending veto pen in six years until the federal funding for stem-cell research bill came across his desk. (Being willing to veto a bill on moral grounds but not on fiscal ones is pathetic)
5. The Republican controlled Congress deep-sixed a bill which guaranteed transparency in federal spending because they didn't want Americans to be able to see how their seized tax dollars were squandered.(Nothing in government should be secretive but intelligence gathering)
6. Bush and the power-addicted neo-cons ignored Americans' demand that they secure the border with Mexico. They feared losing votes if they angered the Hispanic population, so they abdicated their responsibility to secure the borders of our country, and offered a appallingly wretched comprehensive-immigration-reform bill. (illegal alien amnesty)
7. And this is the big one for me...Republicans had total control of Washington and managed to do nothing but push through a tax-cut(excellent), attack Iraq(necessary), and shift the Supreme Court rightward(hopefully). That's pretty much it. They could have done so much more to improve America but the trappings of power seduced them into protecting their positions the way Democrats do...by buying votes with money seized from taxpayers.

These are the reasons I vote Liberterian here in Alabama whenever there is a candidate running. Until the Republicans return to the conservative roots and follow through on promises they will continue to lose elections to liberal Democrats who promise taxpayer-funded goody bags to loafing, needy Americans who are afraid to take control of and responsibility for their own lives.

Now for the silver lining from last night: If Republicans had retained control of the House, they would arrogantly assume that we conservative voters approved of their Democrat-like behavior for the last six years and we would have suffered two more years of the same thing. Two more years of Republicans clinging to power by acting like Democrats would be enough, I believe, to sweep Hillary into the oval office (heaven forbid). After last night's spanking, expect Republicans to do some serious soul searching to figure out why they lost, and go into '08 prepared to take back control. Expect SanFranNan to afflict America with 12 years of pent up liberal disaster as well. Two years of Washington liberals showing how inept they are by having to make decisions rather than simply criticize the decisions of others, will set the stage for a Republican to take the White House and hopefully send the Clintons packing once and for all.

And the shadow of darkness and dread fell upon the peoples of America...

Dem's Take the House While the Senate Remains in Limbo...

This woman is two heartbeats away from the Presidency. As scary as that is, there is a silver lining to the GOP loss of House control. It sets up nicely for us in two years when the American people will have had a snout full of SanFrancisco liberalism.

The biggest loser last night was Hillary Clinton. There won't be nearly the mandate for her ascension to her birthright position in the oval office in '08 as there would have been if the GOP had retained power.

I've got to go to work but stay tuned to TRR for more election after-math analysis.

swift justice

If only justice were meted out this quickly in this country...

The former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein will be hanged by the end of January, a senior member of Nouri al-Maliki's Dawa party predicted today as an around-the-clock curfew kept the lid on sectarian violence after the deposed dictator was sentenced to death.

"I don't think it will drag on beyond January of next year," said MP Haider al-Abadi, who is a confidant to the Iraqi Prime Minister.

With our endless appeals system, convicted death-row prisoners sit for an average of like 15 years before being finally executed. All death-row prisoners are in solitary confinement. The cost of maintaining one prisoner per cell is in the neighborhood of 50 thousand dollars a year. How much money would be saved if we executed guys in 6 months? And how much more of a deterrent would capital punishment be if guys knew they would swing six months after committing the crime?

Where have you gone Vince Dooley?

Man if it weren't for Alabama, Georgia would be the laughing stock of the SEC!

Is it me, or is Georgia terrible in every facet of the game? Receiving, rushing, QB, tackling, special teams, blocking, play calling...even the cheerleaders are sub-par. The only positive I can find on the team this year is UGA-VI...he can always be conted on.

If you count the slim, last-minute, 3-point win over Miss. St as a loss, which I do, by the end of the Tech. game, Georgia will have lost 6 out of our last six games. When is the last time that happened? This is a team in serious decline. There's something going on over there.

Bad idea!

It seems that some crazy Palestinian women decided to use themselves as human shields to protect militants who were in a fire fight with Israeli soldiers in Gaza. Turns out that was an unwise decision...the Israelis kept shooting.

Heh, heh.

Are you a D or an R?

I don't know how many of you visit Neal Boortz's site every day but if you don't, here's a snipit of his from today's posting. He sums up very well the average Democrat voter. If you are considering voting with the Dems tomorrow then you should feel very comfortable with Neal's description of you...if you aren't, vote Republican...

While we're talking about the war against Islamic fascism, and the myrmidons who don't seem to recognize that we're even at war, let's not forget the largest Democrat voting block out there. There are tens of millions of Americans who have refused to accept the responsibilities of adulthood. These are Americans who will profess their love of freedom, but when it comes time to face the responsibilities they take a quick powder.

These Americans are unwilling to accept the responsibility for developing their own job skills and finding a job. They run from the responsibility of educating their children. In fact, many of them don't even feel it is their responsibility to provide for the care of their own children when they're off at their jobs! These Americans feel that their health care is someone else's responsibility too --- either their employer or the government. And God forbid that they should ever be held responsible for planning and funding their own retirement.

Every day these Americans wake up with one primary thought in mind. What can the government do today to relieve me of the responsibility for taking care of my own life.

These people will vote Democrat. There is nothing that will change their minds. Making sure that government continues to play the role of Mommy and Daddy to these voters was their primary motivation the last time the voted, and it will be their primary motivation tomorrow.

Put them together with those who despise economic liberty, those who believe America is great because of its government, those who suffer from Obsessive Compulsive Compassion Syndrome and those who see peace at any price, and tomorrow shapes up to be a disaster for our liberties and our security.

When you go to the polls tomorrow, think about what makes this country great to you. If it's the nanny-style government taking care of it's citizens from the cradle to the grave, you should vote D. If you believe America's greatness is derived from the economic freedom of it's citizens, our willingness to defend democracy, and our embracing of rugged individualism, then vote R.

If you don't know which Party best represents your beliefs, then what are you doing reading a political blog? Go back to getting your news from Entertainment Tonight and the Daily Show.

Saddam will do the air dance

Looks like Saddam Hussein will be dancing at the end of a rope soon. He was sentenced on Sunday for like 100,000 counts of crimes against humanity. The funny part was hearing Democrats histerically whining about George Bush arranging the verdict to coincide with the mid-term elections. I don't know why that surprises me though, they blamed Bush for high gas prices, Katrina, and the ocean currents. Undecided voters will not make up their minds based on Saddam's guilty verdict -- who didn't know he would be found guilty?

Americans...foisting our way of life on the world

Confirming what I've been saying for months, that they are hostile to, and resentful of America, the crybabies over at the U.N. think there's too much English on the Internet...

EXPERTS at a UN forum on internet governance warned that the predominant use of English on the worldwide web needs to be checked before it crowds out other languages.

They fear forms of cultural knowledge accumulated over centuries of human progress could be lost for ever.

“Some 90 per cent of 6000 languages (at use today) are not represented on the internet,” said Yoshinori Imai of NHK, Japan's Broadcasting Corporation.

“These people could be left out in the desert of no information and no knowledge,” he said.

In countries such as Colombia and Senegal, oral tradition and cultural heritage that could be used for research and education purposes may never reach the broader world, sociologists and linguists told the four-day forum, held in the southern Athens suburb of Vouliagmeni until November 2.

“A large part of the population are voiceless because they cannot share the information,” said Adama Samassekou, president of the African Academy of Languages in Mali.

“Every time a language dies, a vision of the world disappears,” he said.

Sniff, sniff.

Look, when people in Colombia and Senegal contribute something to the world besides drugs and famine respectively, they can do it in whatever language they speak. Until then, I'd like to see more Engrish on the Web.

Are fraternities worth it?

OK, read just the first few lines of the latest story about fraternity hazing allegations...and then tell me this is a positive college activity in which your son should participate...

ORLANDO, Fla. -- School officials investigating an apparent hazing ritual at a fraternity house on the University of Central Florida campus in which pledges were found in diapers, fairy wings and women's panties told Local 6 News that there is evidence that several of them may have been sexually assaulted.
University police, acting on a tip, said they noticed loud, aggressive screaming and moaning coming from the SAE fraternity house.
"At first, students would not let police into the fraternity house because they said they were performing a ritual," Local 6's Louis Bolden said. "Apparently, that ritual included male students dressing up like women and drinking until they had to be hospitalized."
The report also said the officers found a man wearing a pink tank top, women's underwear and a blond wig who was lying on the floor and vomited several times. Another male was sobbing on the floor wearing a rainbow-colored wig and a diaper, the report said.
Officers said the common area had a strong smell of urine and vomit.

What are the lame rationalizations parents, seeking their former college coolness through their kids, use to justify encouraging their kids be "Greek"...?
1. "Greeks make better grades on average than independent students" -- over all that may be true but the average is "C" is it not? That's supposed to be impressive, that Greeks make high C's? I'm sorry but being made to consume life-threatening quantities of alcohol is not worth a guarantee of high C's...for straight A's, why sure. But not C's.
2. "Greeks make life-long social contacts which can help land coveted jobs." Oh, well I stand corrected. Who wouldn't want to work for a sadistic, latently-homosexual man who when we were in college together, made me wear women's panties and stuck hot-dogs in unmentionable places...yeah, that's worth it. If you're too stupid to get a job on your own merits, you deserve the life-long humiliation of the experiences of fraternity hazing.
3. "Greeks" raise more money for charities than any other collegiate organizations." So what? Charity fund raising is a requirement for chapter charter of the national Greek orgainzations as well as mandated by most school administrations as a requirement for official campus recognition. If your kid is that serious about charity fund-raising, there are plenty of student organizations that raise funds for charities but who don't require them to submit to sexual assault before passing the hat.
4. "C'mon, fraternity hazing is a harmless right-of-passage for a young man. It'll make a man out of him." No, military basic training will make a man out of him -- and it doesn't involve cured meat products in various orifices.

"But Ed", you smugly point out, "wasn't it you who dismissed the Abu Ghraib torture as harmless fraternity hazing? Gotcha!"

Right you are, but there is a difference. In college you have innocent kids away from home for the first time, wanting to belong to a group with which they identify, being humiliated, near death sometimes, at the hands of peers. At Abu Ghraib, those wild-eyed, crazed jihadists would slash the throats of every American they could get their hands on. And, they had done something bad to end up in prison in the first place. Besides, my point wasn't that the torture at Abu Ghraib was OK. I don't think it was OK. It was that it didn't warrant the level of outrage with which hand-wringing liberals reacted.

My point...some sororities might be fine for daughters, but even some of them have their own problems with organizational alcohol abuse and some of the stuff they are told they must do with the frat brothers. That being said, if you encourage, and pay for, your son to join a fraternity, you must be OK with him ending up on the floor as one of those boys in the article...crying, naked except for panties, puking drunk from alcohol poisoning, sexually violated and near death. Under any other circumstances, you would be justified in killing somebody who did that to your son.

That OK with you?

He just doesn't get it...

(CBN News) - Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean told CBN News that his party has a lot in common with the evangelical community. With the 2006 midterm elections creeping closer, CBN News sat down with Dean to discuss the Democrat’s new outreach to conservative Christians.
Dean said that "one of the misconceptions about the Democratic Party is that we're godless and that we don't have any values."

"The truth is, we have an enormous amount in common with the Christian community, and particularly with the evangelical Christian community,” Dean said. “And one of the biggest things that Democrats worry about is the materialism of our country, what's on television that our kids are seeing, and the lack of spirituality. And that's something we have in common."

Let's examine some other Dem "values" that evangelicals might find appealing this election season...Democrats are on record as being in favor of...
1. non-traditional unions -- gay marriage
2. human cloning
3. no-questions-asked, partial-birth-abortion on demand for all ages
4. abolition of God from all aspects of modern life
5. human embryo harvesting for stem-cell research
6. Constitutional protection for sexual predators of children -- NAMBLA
7. the embracing of virtually every wacky "religion" on Earth except Christianity

The list goes on. One wonders how many "values voters" Howard Dean will woo over to the Dem side on Tuesday. My guess...not many. You see Howard, values aren't simply an election issue, either you share values with somebody or you don't. It's not a position you can take temporarily, in order to win votes.

So, if you share the "values" above with Dean, then by all means vote Democrat this Tuesday.

Confirming the stereotype

This is absurd! They don't call them the THIN blue line for nothing...

Police Chief Paul Goward was tired of looking around his department and seeing blubber hanging over the belts of some of his officers. So he sent out a memo exhorting the "jelly bellies" to shape up.
In the end, the department lost 190 pounds _ all of them belonging to Goward. He was forced out as chief because some of his officers took offense at the memo.

The Oct. 11 memo bruised feelings on the 80-member force, drew at least one anonymous letter of complaint from officers about the chief's management style and made his department the butt of jokes about fat cops and doughnuts.

"If they got their feelings hurt to the extent of `Do something about it,' then I did what I was intending to do," said an unapologetic Goward, a trim 6-footer who was forced to resign his $92,000-a-year post last week.

In his memo, titled "Are You a Jelly Belly," the chief never singled anyone out, and apart from the title, didn't call anyone names.

Instead, he provided a list of 10 reasons police officers should be in shape. He said overweight police poorly represent the profession, poop out when chasing suspects and might have to resort to "a higher level of force" if a criminal got the upper hand in a fight. He said out-of- shape cops are a liability to the city and their families.

"Take a good look at yourself," he wrote. "If you are unfit, do yourself and everyone else a favor. See a professional about a proper diet and a fitness training program, quit smoking, limit alcohol intake and start thinking self-pride, confidence and respectability. And stop making excuses for delaying what you know you should have been doing years ago. We didn't hire you unfit and we don't want you working unfit. Don't mean to offend, this is just straight talk. I owe it to you."

Nothing is funnier than that Sports Center video of those fat New York cops chasing the skinny streaker around Yankee Stadium for what seemed like minutes because he was so much faster than them. Nobody should have stricter health and physical performance standards than cops, except maybe for guys in like Delta Force, Navy SEALS, or something. This police chief was doing exactly the right thing and I think he was quite nice about it. But you have a bunch of crybaby, PC, weenies on the force with thin skin who got this guy fired. The skinny, in-shape criminals are loving this. Luckily for the citizens however, the criminals are stupider than the cops are fat. Most of them wear their pants so baggy and low that they can't run away any how.

Let us celebrate World Vegan Day

I hadn't heard but today is World Vegan Day and I thought I would observe it in my own special way. I had a turkey sub-sandwich for lunch with lettuce, tomato and some kind of sauce that was delish! For dinner we'll be grilling salmon steaks, marinated in molasses and soy, to perfect juicy flakiness --- how's that for a celebration?

"Open the pod bay doors, HAL"

MOSCOW (AP) - The international space station's crew has fixed an oxygen generator that overheated and spilled a toxic irritant last month, Mission Control said Wednesday.
Upon learning of the potentially deadly, noxious gas leak(not exactly the kind of news you want to hear in deep space) the station's crew - cosmonaut Mikhail Tyurin, U.S. astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria and German astronaut Thomas Reiter were quoted collectively as saying, "Holy crap!"

EXCELLENT!!!

With 40 flippant words, the Poodle not only angered and embarassed his Dem collegues, energized the Republican voting base, and drew attention away from a struggeling Republican encumbancy in the House, he also managed to insult and alienate the 140,000 troops in Iraq who volunteered to serve their country out of patriotism, ironically, much like he did.

Where is DFACS when you need them?

I borrowed this from Neal Boortz.

When do you think is the last time that kid got a face full of fresh air instead of back sweat?

Nothing like family harmony during the holidays

Drew Brees wants no part of his mother's political aspirations.

The NFL quarterback and Westlake High School graduate has told Mina Brees, an Austin attorney, to stop using his picture in TV commercials as she runs for a spot on Texas' 3rd Court of Appeals, saying their relationship is now "nonexistent" after souring six years ago.

"I think the major point here is that my mother is using me in a campaign, and I've made it known many times I don't want to be involved," he said Monday.

I'll bet Thanksgiving will be fun around their house.

If she can't get elected on her own merits and needs her relation to an NFL quarterback to get votes, what does that say about the stupid, star-eyed voters firstly, and secondly, what does it say about her fitness for the job? I hope she loses.

Reverse October Surprise

Normally the October surprises are revealed by the minority Party in Congress in order to submarine the re-election efforts of the majority encumbents. It seems Democrats' loathing, in the person of John Kerry, of President Bush has submarined the minority efforts to capture Congressional power. Lurch's remarks about the GI's in Iraq not being smart have ignited a firestorm of criticism of Democrats in general. More importantly, it has handed to Republican incumbents that elusive defining election issue on a silver platter.

Every Republican encumbent in a close race should start and end every campaign speech until next Tuesday with this line...

"if you want to hear at least two more years of defeatist, insulting, anti-Americanism from guys like John Kerry the traitor, then vote for Democrats".

John Kerry may have snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by single-handedly doing what Karl Rove only dreamed of doing...maintaining Republican control of both houses of Congress.

Hopefully it'll work out that way. Thanks Lurch.
