“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

D-Day

Today's the anniversary of D-Day. I wonder how today's media would report on it?

From Army.mil -- June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy. The D-Day cost was high -more than 9,000 Allied Soldiers were killed or wounded -- but more than 100,000 Soldiers began the march across Europe to defeat Hitler.

Name another country whose citizens regularly give their lives for the freedom and liberty of citizens in other countries? That's what makes America special and better.

I fear we know all too well how today's media would report it. On May 28th, they would have reported that "sources" had revealed that Patton's forces preparing to invade at Calais were just a ruse and the real invasion would be at Normandy. "Experts" would be found to call this a risky move sure to fail.

If not that, Omaha Beach would have been called a failure and disaster, leading to Ike's resignation.

And never, never, never in self-interest.

It doesn't matter capt. Besides, how did Americans dying to stop Hitler serve directly the self interests of the US?

Going to your neighbor's house to stop a burglar so he doesn't burgle you next, might be in your self interest, but you still stopped him from burglarizing your neighbor? What difference does the reason make?

whilst there are brave individuals & heroes everywhere in the world, the USA govt & its industrial sponsors only entered WW2 after first selling weapons to all sides and then after it was threatened or attacked (P.harbour) Europe's war began 1939..the politics of the USA , not only funding fascists dictatorships in S. Amrica, since then has almost always been "first strike" ! the likes of Nixon, Clinton & Bush (both versions) had helped destroy the reputation of the USA, & the "democratic free world, that Europeans hoped JFK might bring.. goodness bless those on the beaches ...whose sacrifice today is being eroded by self-interest & destruction of human rights worldwide due to "new world order police state"

On the anniversary of this historic day, can we please leave all the politican opinions and comments aside and just honor those brave men of the greatest generation who were so very young yet fought so very bravely. They changed the course of history, my father and uncle among them. God bless all World War Two veterans!!

Today is D Day (again), 6/6/2012

Media only reports when it's round numbers, 10, 20, 30 years after the landing...

The photo on this page is of a sunny day. I thought the weather was overcast over Normandy on June 6. Are you sure this isn't a pic of another landing, maybe in the Pacific or Mediterranean?
