Al-Qaeda has taken over the Abyan governorate in south Yemen and imposed strict sharia law there. In a few short weeks the people have witnessed in the public square, beheadings, amputations, and at least one crucifixion and all have taken place without trials and barely even accusations, just a mob of savages.
"But Ed, most Muslims are moderate and peaceful. You can't paint all of Islam with the broad brush of radicalism."
Sure I can, because it is the radicals who're the prominent face of modern Islam. The radicals around the world define Islam as radical. It's not the "moderates" you imagine who define their religion. The radicals are the de facto spokesmen of that dark, primitive religion. Where are the moderates to condemn this? They say nothing because they are either cowards or they secretly approve of this radicalism. It's one or the other. Nothing else explains their deafening silence.
