“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Time to depart Afghanistan....at long last

I know in war (or police action or over-seas contingency operation or whatever the hell Afghanistan is) you have to keep otherwise outrageous atrocities in perspective, but one of our soldiers slaughtering 16 men, women, and children, to me means our time there is over....

From Politico -- Afghanistan’s parliament Monday demanded a public trial of the U.S. soldier accused of murdering 16 civilians, while the Taliban vowed revenge for the horrifying killings, according to reports.

In a statement on its website, the Taliban said “sick-minded American savages” committed a “blood-soaked and inhumane crime” in the Panjwayi district of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, according to The Associated Press.

The U.S. has said the shootings were conducted by a lone American soldier who is now in custody.

Tell me how we can ever get back, if we ever had it, the trust of the Afghan people to effect change in their country after this? I don't think it's possible. I realize it was a single, crazed gunman acting alone, but who cares? He was a US soldier. That's all the Afghan people know or care about. The situation in Afghanistan is untenable now and it's time to leave them to their own devices and the mercy of the Taliban. Heaven knows we can't afford to stay there and no American can turn his back on anybody in that country now.

All the left ever had to do was to join the army, slaughter some civilians and we'd cut and run.

We should have made it a war against islam from the beginning. Their hate and anger is fueled by the mosques. Real easy to pick out and flatten every mosque.

Now all our fortunes spent over there will amount to nothing.

It seems to me that the military leaders are now part of the politically-correct class when they weren't 10 years ago. They're apologetic, timid, conciliatory to the enemy, etc.

I don't know how it's possible to win heart and minds or nation-build at this point....if it ever was, which I seriously doubt. We got bin Laden, now it's time to get the hell out.
