“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

January Jones consumed her placenta?

Did you know that Madmen star January Jones is an advocate of maternal consumption of the placenta(she had hers dried, ground into powder, and put into gelatin capsules), but many people eat the placenta as if it's any other meat in a dish.

Her rationale is that the placenta is rich in the hormone oxytocin which promotes bonding, milk production, and ameliorates postpartum depression. If she had stopped there, I'd have a little more respect for her ideas, but she also added that humans are the only mammals that don't eat their placentas. Here are a few of the comments I read about that......

-Thank you yahoo, for that lovely mental image. Does anyone want the rest of my burrito?

-Animals do it to eliminate the smell that might attract predators for god sake.
The only predators around hospitals are ambulance chasing lawyers.

-Animals do it to replace lost nutrients... people do it for attention or because they are idiots.

There is no doctor-supported evidence that consuming the placenta is beneficial, though nor is it harmful. My guess is it's just the popular thing to do among Hollywood weirdos, who let's face it, had the kid in the first place because it's a popular accessory in Hollywood right now. But I'll tell you this, if you're a new father, it changes the whole concept of, "Honey, make me a sandwich."

I'm surprised they don't claim it supplies them with those valuable pluripotent stem cells. Of course they would just be digested, but I doubt that would make it into the sound-bites

I don't buy the oxytocin reasons because they aren't medically supported, but it's not harmful and if it provides a placebo effect, then I don't care what people do to pursue happiness.

It's the "if other mammals do it, it must be the right thing to do" argument that I have a problem with.

I think in some places it is technically illegal as it is cannabalism

Also oxytocin does not make it to the bloodstream as orally it is digested. ...bet you didn't see that mentioned either.

I love the show "Mad Men" but JJ who I think is very attractive is less so now.

I don't know David....she's crazier than a shithouse mouse, but then I dig the hot, nutty broads, so she's OK by me.
