“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Babs gets a prize

The election of Sarkozy to President in France is a step in the right direction toward stopping the hostile colonization by radical Muslims of his country and slowing France's slide toward politically correct degeneracy and irrelevency. That being said, they are still French, and as such they adore vapid, airheaded, American performers...

PARIS - Barbra Streisand performed her first-ever concert in France this week — and was rewarded with a medal of the Legion of Honor.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy awarded the medal to Streisand in a ceremony Thursday, the first time he has bestowed the honor since taking over from Jacques Chirac last month.

"You are the America that we love," said Sarkozy, who is seen as more U.S.-friendly than Chirac. "Women like you ... do a lot to bring our two peoples together."

Perhaps nobody told them this was like her 5th tour since she did her 4th retirement tour...often bilking fans for $1500 a ticket to watch her bash her own country between screetching out another tired rendition of Send in the Clowns. Another paragon of great American entertainment whom the French adore is Jerry Lewis, just to put this award in perspective.

Babs getting felt up by President Sarkozy...'cause that's how they do it in France.

A very special Friday edition of Ann Coulter Thursday

Ann was out of pocket yesterday for some reason but she posted this at some point. Go to her site and check out her latest flaming of liberals over at Ann Coulter.com. This week she's defending herself against the MSM's outrage that she would attack the husband (Breck Girl) of a woman with cancer. It's apparanetly perfectly OK with the liberal media however, if John Edwards routinely parlay's the death of his son Wade into campaign donations and bankrupted competent doctors and their families with made-up science and voodoo slapstick. Parlor tricks that only the stupidest of North Carolina juries could swollow.

Anyway, Ann comes out swinging and is unapologetic as always...good for her.

Shamnesty gets deep sixed!!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketThe American people spoke today and the Senate wisely voted down the disasterous shamnesty bill...

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate drove a stake Thursday through President Bush's plan to legalize millions of unlawful immigrants, likely postponing major action on immigration until after the 2008 elections.
The bill's supporters fell 14 votes short of the 60 needed to limit debate and clear the way for final passage of the legislation, which critics assailed as offering amnesty to illegal immigrants. The vote was 46 to 53 in favor of limiting the debate.

The American people will be more than happy to entertain ideas of guest workers and legalization issues but the border must be closed first. It's stupid to do anything else. We know that the phrase "comprehensive reform" is code for, "we'll promise to close the border but in the mean time, we'll legalize 12-20 million new democrat voters."

Chappaquidic Ted needs a drink.

It's Ann Coulter Thursday!

I don't know why Ann's latest column is not up on her site. Maybe she didn't write one yet this week. While you wait with breathless anticipation for it to post( I'll put a link to it as soon as it's up) you may gaze at her images here.

A good looking broad with a gun...nice.

Showing a little leg.

Relative Morality

Harvard University, bastion of conservative thought, produced this stupid "morality test". Basically you read eight scenarios and then decide how much of a fine the offending person should receive for their offense, that is if you think they did anything fine-worthy to begin with. I scored extremely low on this test. I guess the Einsteins at Harvard want me to think that I'm immoral or something.

It's really a test of your belief in either the concept of personal responsibility or the idea that when somebody gets hurt, it's always somebody elses fault...that there is no such thing as an accident. My morality score was at or below the 0.139th percentile. That means that according to Harvard, 99.861% of people who took the test are more morally conscious than me.
What it shows is that to kooky liberal academicians, morality is defined as the ability to empathize with a "victim", and the willingness to absolve that person of any personal responsibility for his/her own safety by assigning blame to somebody else.

Go here and take the short test. It takes only about 5 minutes and they tell you how you scored compared to everybody else. Of eight possibilities, I only fined 2 people for causing harm to somebody, and the fines were relatively low.

I think a bunch of slip-and-fall tort lawyers commissioned this study to guage people's willingness to extract damage awards from people who are not at fault, just because they feel sorry for the person who got hurt.

The Urine Test

I have finally found a way to satisfy and resolve some of our tax issues as well as help ease the burden of our illegal immigration issue. It is simple. The Urine Test.

All persons requesting free medical aid, government subsidies, food, and all other "handouts" should be required to pass a simple urine test. No drugs or diseases- your okay and get in line. You got issues, well then partner find another way to get free stuff . Immigrants show up w/o proper documentation, test them. If they can pass the test, get them their short term needs, but detain them until the proper credentials are filled out. Simple easy and cheap. Testing can be done on the spot without expensive labs and can save the government money.

I got this idea this week, as I dealt with a job in Montgomery with the State. All employees of the state are subjected to random urine testing and will have their paycheck withheld for failure to comply with the test, and I found that there are restrictions, including termination, if one doesn't pass. What a great system. expand it and start the unemployed on the road back to being non drug dependent, and toward finding a job. The state could hire many of these people in the newly expanded business of manufacturing urine testing cups and equipment.

I am always looking for new and improved ways to help the less fortunate.

Don't mess with the market

Restricting fuel consumption by imposing rations is about as economically stupid as mandating levels of ethanol usage when the consumers don't want it. You'd think Iranian president Achma-dinnerjacket would have learned this from the wholesale disaster that was the Carter administration...you'd be wrong...

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Angry Iranian motorists queued for gasoline on Wednesday hours after the world's fourth largest oil exporter imposed fuel rationing, sparking chaotic scenes and the torching of two pump stations in the capital.

Drivers raced to fill up their tanks late on Tuesday after the Oil Ministry announced the delayed scheme would finally go ahead at midnight after months of confusion and conflicting statements, forming lines that stretched hundreds of meters.

One fuel station in Pounak, a poorer area of the capital, was set alight while another in eastern Tehran was partially burnt, two of its pumps completely destroyed by fire, witnesses said.

Those who missed the midnight deadline still faced long lines early on Wednesday in a country where many see abundant and cheap fuel as a right, even after government in May hiked the liter price by 25 percent to 1,000 rials (11 U.S. cents).

Despite its huge energy reserves, Iran lacks refining capacity and must import about 40 percent of its gasoline, a sensitive issue when world powers have threatened new U.N. sanctions in a row with Tehran over its nuclear program.

I have two sentient observations to make: 1. if gas is not plentiful, the prices will go up naturally and the consumption will therefore decrease as desired. The government doesn't need to meddle with a system(supply, demand, price) that works perfectly every time. 2. What is it about the cultures of certain groups of people that compels them to react to disappointment with violence? They are trashing their own neighborhoods for heaven's sake.

Irate Muslims doing what irate Muslims do best.

Dereliction of duty in the Senate

The Senate just voted 64-35 to advance the disastrous and un-American shamnesty bill that would immediately upon Bush's signature, legalize 12-20 million illegal aliens. As soon as those millions of non-English speakers are legal citizens, a whole new wave of millions more will literally pour over the border, motivated by the promise of citizenship in the next amnesty bill. Democrats are delighted today, as this bill would create millions of new wards of the State, as most of these illegals would immediately qualify for, and would surely take advantage of, taxpayer-funded public assistance. That translates into millions of new democrat welfare voters. They may never lose another election.

This travesty of a sham of a mockery of a sham of a bill does absolutely nothing to address the wide open border across which those new millions will flood.

You think "Press 1 for English" is annoying? Wait until this shamnesty bill gets by. The U.S. will officially become a nation of tribes who have different cultures and languages. It will be Americans who have to adapt and conform to their ways rather than them to ours. And our Congress and Pres. Bush will have been responsible for ushering in the age of multi-culturalism that will destroy the national identity. If you don't contact your representatives and assure them of the electoral peril they face if they pass this awful bill, you will have been complicit in the ruin of America as we know it. Go to this website and place a call to your representatives if they voted yes on cloture today. Tell them how disappointed you are and that you will work against him in the next election if he votes for the shamnesty bill.

The verminous Harry Reid loathes all that is right and good about America.

Blame the weather

Liberals will say literally anything if there is the remotest of possibilities that they can blame somebody's bad behavior on climate change or George Bush. In this case they get a two-fer...

BEAUMONT, Texas — Teenagers in a southeast Texas county were more likely to smoke cigarettes if they or their family members were affected by Hurricanes Katrina or Rita, according to a university study.

The study by the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston surveyed more than 5,100 middle school and high school students in Jefferson County six to nine months after the hurricanes made landfall.

Alfred L. McAlister, a behavioral scientist and an author of the study, lectured thusly...

"The physical damage was easy to see, but the psychological damage from the hurricanes was pretty well hidden. The hurricanes had an emotional impact on the youth and we need to recognize that and give them the help they need. Otherwise, they use tobacco as a crutch and then they become addicted."

In case you don't see what's going on here, blaming addiction on the weather is a way to get the government(taxpayers) to fund still more failed anti-smoking programs for teens too stupid to not smoke. Of course dumb liberals have already blamed Katrina on Bush so they get twice the bang for their buck here.

I'm sorry, but I don't believe that any human reacts to stress by starting smoking if they didn't smoke already. Smoking is a choice stupid people make, unrelated to anything but peer pressure, bad hollywood examples, and weight loss. Absolving teens from having made stupid choices only encourages the making of more stupid choices. If you don't believe that, take a look at the startling rise in teen pregnancy rates that started, surprise, precisely after the government(taxpayers) coughed up millions for unwed mother assistance programs...programs which removed even the slightest hardship associated with unwed teen breeding.

Here's a stupid teen now...he looks really stressed out about Katrina and Rita.

He ain't heavy...he's Canadian

In keeping with their long and distinguished tradition of embracing politically correct idiocy, Canada has decided that instead of allowing the morbidly obese to suffer from the problems of their self-indulgence, they deserve their very own designer ambulances...care of the taxpayers no doubt...

Healthcare officials in Calgary have unveiled a new ambulance designed for treating and transporting obese patients in an emergency, believed to be the first of its kind in this country.
The ambulance is equipped with a wide mechanical lift that gently raises patients weighing up to 1,000 pounds (450 kilograms) into the carriage.

"The population is becoming heavier and we needed an ambulance that could handle bigger loads and to reduce injuries to our paramedics from lifting," Emergency Medical Services supervisor Eric Arnestad told AFP.

According to Statistics Canada, the number of Canadians who are overweight or obese has risen dramatically in recent years, mirroring a worldwide phenomena. More than 20 percent, or six million Canadians are considered obese.

Here's Calgary's fleet of ambulances for the morbidly obese...ready to spring into action.

Nuke the hippies!

My state of Alabama leads the nation in many categories...most of them embarassing. But this is one I'm proud of. It had been like 20 years since a nuclear reactor came online in the U.S. to provide power to the surrounding area and the national grid. Last week, the Brown's Ferry Nuclear Plant(pictured above), about an hour north of where I live, brought the number 1 reactor back into service. Hopefully this means that we(the U.S.) will not only bring all our closed plants online but will build dozens more new ones.

There will be smelly, unemployed hippies protesting at every site but build them anyway. We can't let a tiny collection of irrational, anti-industrialization zealots prevent us from providing for the energy needs of our country.

Reality confounds hype

Once again, the weather refuses to cooperate with Al Gore and the church of radical environmentalism...

From Livescience.com, Forecasts for a busy hurricane season in 2006 were all dead wrong. This year, forecasters predicted a really busy year again. But with just two storms to date, and neither one a hurricane, you might wonder where all the action is.

The global warming zealots over at the weather channel are sitting around hoping and wishing for another one of these deadly hurricanes to validate their idiotic religion, but the weather just won't get with the program.

Hard time in the Big House

In case you missed it, either Paris Hilton herself, or a 7 year old mentally retarded ghost-writer, penned this letter to one of Paris's fans...

I'll spare you a picture of inmate #3947825 herself as this chicken-scratch letter is funny enough. Apparently the airhead heiress dropped out of school before they covered the "i" before "e" except after "c" rule and sentence fragments. And check out the gag-worthy hearts above the i's in her signature. I always hated those girls who dotted their i's with hearts or smiley faces.

If Paris wants to maximize her time in jail and get the most out of it, she should start a fight out in the yard. If she stabbed another inmate with a shiv, she would come out of jail with all kinds of street cred.

Sexual Predators

We are now smack dab in the middle of an epidemic. Weekly, I read of teachers seducing students - under age teenage students! This is completely wrong and something must be done to stop it immediately.

I feel strongly that over time, in the past, some teachers have always preyed on their students. I understand that sexual urges happen, and sometimes come with bad consequences. If an adult engages in sexual conduct with an underage person, nothing good can happen.

In trolling through Internet news sites last night, I found no less than 30 different teacher/student incidences this year. Why the sudden rise in predatory behavior? Society deserves better from its educators. Amazingly, most of these stories involve an adult female teacher with a teenage male counterpart.

I have never favored single sex schools, but might be forced to rethink that position. In that environment a school district could control a great portion of this outlandish behavior. Teachers could be restricted to teaching the same sex at these schools. (I am only pointing this out, because I have not read of a same sex teacher student relationship -though I am sure they exist as well). I know that costs would be incurred.

Penalties for this behavior need to be stiffened and meted out quickly and judiciously. It is time to curtail this activity immediately. I suggest that the U.S. hire an executioner. This job would entail beheading any teacher convicted of this crime. While I know my response is gut level and does not marry into our judicial system, I feel much better about it. This way the sexual stalker is taken out of society once and for all. No need to tag them and no need for them to constantly alert authorities as to their dwellings. It will be permanent and final - in the grave!

Our society continues to digress in many different ways, this is only one facet of said community slide, but if decent Americans continue to stand around and watch from afar- it will only get worse. We are all sick about Natalee Holloway and that incident. We would love to see justice served there. Somewhere, in this country a teacher is seducing a student. That student can be ruined for ever. Therapy, drugs, booze who knows the results. Maybe that child becomes a predator too. All I know is that it is time to take a stand and stop the dung from flowing.

Fun in the friendly skies

I would totally freak out of this happened to me...

DALLAS (AP) - Continental Airlines Inc. (CAL) is apologizing to its customers for "poor conditions" aboard a transatlantic flight where one passenger described sewage spilling down the aisle from a lavatory.
"I've never felt so offended in all my life," passenger Collin Brock of Washington state told Seattle's KING-TV. "I felt like I had been physically abused and neglected. I was forced to sit next to human excrement for seven hours."

Funny, those exact words were used by Jimmy Carter to describe having to sit next to Michael Moore at the '04 Democratic Convention.

And then the understatement of the year...

Continental spokesman Dave Messing on Thursday confirmed that there had been a problem with the plane's lavatory during the flight.Ya think, Dave?

It's Ann Coulter Thursday!

This is one of my favorite Ann Coulter quotes, because it outraged whiny liberals so much.

This week Ann piles on the dispicable Mike Nifong. Entertaining and acerbic as always. Read it here.

The cost of government meddling

So I walk into the Pig last night to pick up a few things for home, and I go to grab some Pig brand skim milk and it's like $3.79 a gallon. It was exactly $3.29 a gallon last week. My first thought is that gas prices have caused the transport of goods to market to be more expensive, thus the high milk prices. But nothing else had increased by 15% overnight. Then, being the highly analytical observer that I am, I realize it's not the gas, it's the stupid government mandated switch to corn-based ethanol that has caused the milk to be so expensive.

"But why Ed", you wonder, "why would using ethanol for fuel cause milk to be so expensive?"

The short answer? Because whenever the government meddles in the market, bad things happen. Ethanol producers are competing with cow farmers for corn, which raises dramatically it's market price. Farmers have to pay more for corn to feed the cows and that's why milk costs so much. The irony is that these smelly-hippy vegans will be paying way more for the rabbit food they want everybody to eat because of ethanol mandates too.

In fact, everybody will be paying lots more for everything that uses corn as an ingredient. Corn is the U.S.'s primary food source. What in the world are we thinking putting our number one food source in our gas tanks? How stupid are we? The market should decide if we like ethanol or not...not the government.

You will pay a lot more for staples like this if stupid environmentalists have their way.

Terrorist Tech

There was a story this morning about a new threat from terrorists who recently "graduated" from terrorist school. Supposedly they are now highly qualified killers and have been sent out to slay infidels in America and the U.K.

Maybe it's just me, but have you seen those terrorist training videos? My 4th grade playground equipment was harder to jump around on. Which begs the question, what exactly are they training for? How many monkey-bars and see-saws do you see around potential terror targets? And they "train" in the same dirty nightshirts they eat, sleep, and protest in. Maybe I'm wrong, but they just don't seem too threatenting to me. They probably spend way more time sitting around hitting the hash pipe and praying than they do "training" on the Al-Queda swing set.

Here are the fearsome Al-Queda terrorists, playing paint-ball, praying, and climbing trees. Sounds like summer bible camp to me.

The religion of Peace...practically a parody of itself

Well, it's no surprise that the silly collection of 11th century barbarians running around in dirty nightshirts known as radical Islam has it's shorts all in a bunch again...

Muslim radicals burned an effigy of Queen Elizabeth Tuesday as Pakistan summoned the British ambassador over Salman Rushdie's knighthood and Iranian hardliners turned their fury on the monarch.

Anger has mounted in the neighbouring Islamic republics since the British monarch gave the 59-year-old author of "The Satanic Verses" the title of Sir Salman for services to literature at the weekend.

The row has thrown Rushdie back in the eye of the storm, 18 years after he was sentenced to death by Iran's revolutionary founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini for blasphemy in a fatwa that has never been revoked.

All it takes is the breeze blowing to trigger violent demonstrations with chants of "Slay the infidels" and "butcher those who mock Islam". If Islam would produce something in it's part of the world besides violence, religious intolerance, bloodshed, murder, poverty, hopelessness, misery, and despair, then we westerners might be a tad sympathetic....then again, not so much.

Practitioners of the peaceful religion of Islam doing what they do best...being outraged by the breeze.

subsidizing poverty or promoting success?

I'm kind of conflicted about this program. What do you think?

NEW YORK (AP) - Poor residents will be rewarded for good behavior - like $300 for doing well on school tests, $150 for holding a job and $200 for visiting the doctor - under an experimental anti-poverty program that city officials detailed Monday.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg traveled to Mexico this spring to study the healthy lifestyle payments, also known as conditional cash transfers.

The theory behind cash rewards is that poor people are trapped in a cycle of repeated setbacks that keep them from climbing out of poverty.

First let me say that I think there is way too much abuse potential where cash give-aways are involved. That being said, if there are appropriate verifiers, it might have a chance of doing some good.

That it's private money is a good thing. If private citizens want to give money to hare-brained schemes that's their business.
That Bloomberg used Mexico as a model is disturbing. Why would you use a destitute third-world country's failure as a model to reduce poverty in the richest country in he world? And if Mexico's program is so successful, why are they all coming to America?

It is axiomatic that you subsidize those things you want more of, and punish those things you want less of. Example: we want less crime, so we punish criminals...this is unless they are Hispanic criminals, then we shower them with taxpayer funded fabulous cash and prizes. Shouldn't we be punishing poverty rather than rewarding it? Isn't economic success it's own reward? The vast welfare programs of the 70's taught us that paying people to be poor just perpetuates their poverty. I think that poverty should be painful and difficult, not made less so by taxpayer giveaways.

Then there was this part of the article...[emphasis mine]

But some critics have raised questions about cash reward programs, saying they promote the misguided idea that poor people could be successful if they just made better choices.

"It just reinforces the impression that if everybody would just work hard enough and change their personal behavior we could solve poverty in this country," said Margy Waller, co-founder of Inclusion, a research and policy group in Washington.

What an asinine statement! Personal behavior and choices are precisely the cause of poverty. But for mental retardation, there are exactly three choices you can make in America to avoid poverty:
1: finish high school
2: stay off drugs
3: keep your legs together if you're a girl and don't get anybody pregnant if you're a boy, until you are married. It goes without saying that you must get and keep a job. Even if it starts at minimum wage, if you work hard and prove your value to your boss, you won't be making minimum wage for more than 6 months..you'll be getting raises or changing jobs for a higher paying one.

Successfully deciding to do those three simple things will, 99% of the time, guarantee you to not be in poverty.

I disagree in principle with paying people to do what they should be doing anyway. But if it can be shown in like 5 years that people who got paid stayed out of poverty, then I'll change my tune. I'll still disagree in principle but I'll acknowledge that it works.

10 YEARS!!!

Here it is folks, this is what Bush has delivered. And for what, exactly? Would someone please explain to me the righteousness of this...

US FORCES could be needed in Iraq for a decade to battle insurgents, the top coalition commander said while vowing a "forthright" review in September of whether the present troop surge is working.

General David Petraeus said there was broad recognition in Washington that Iraq's daunting challenges would not be resolved "in a year or even two years.

"In fact, typically, I think historically, counter-insurgency operations have gone at least nine or 10 years," he said.

Who thinks that any American will tolerate another ten years of roadside bombings, IED's, limbless kids coming home, dead kids coming home, beheadings, triple extended tours of duty, 10-20 dead Americans per month, and trillions in blood and treasure to force a God-forsaken catbox of a Muslim country to convert from 11th century barbarism into a functioning democracy?

It's almost time folks. Time to bring the troops home and leave Iraq to whatever thug dictator is willing to step up and restore order. Even if it is a reign of terror, every mid-east country except Israel is governed by brute force and 11th century-style terror. It's a way of life over there and there's nothing we can do about it.

The Bush legacy folks...10 more years of death, dismemberment, and destruction...to what end?

U.N. idiocy

First, I'd like to thank David and Reid for brilliantly guest-blogging in my absence. Great job guys! Now on to liberal ridiculing...

Just when we got rid of Kofi Annan, the most corrupt UN leader in the sordid history of that embarassing collection of degenerates and despots, we get Ban Ki-moon, who turns out to be an global warming zealot...

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the slaughter in Darfur was triggered by global climate change and that more such conflicts may be on the horizon, in an article published Saturday.
"The Darfur conflict began as an ecological crisis, arising at least in part from climate change," Ban said in a Washington Post opinion column.
UN statistics showed that rainfall declined some 40 percent over the past two decades, he said, as a rise in Indian Ocean temperatures disrupted monsoons.
"This suggests that the drying of sub-Saharan Africa derives, to some degree, from man-made global warming," the South Korean diplomat wrote

In case you haven't figured it out yet, global warming hysteria is a thin veil for an attempt to tax the great wealth of the U.S. The U.N. wants nothing more than to sink it's tentacles into the powerful U.S. economy. With the help of the useful idiots in the democratic party, the blame for anything bad that happens in the world will increasingly be blamed on imaginary global warming, and since the U.S. is the biggest producer of CO2, it will be taxed as a form of punishment...by whom else? Why the all powerful U.N. of course.

If you want to see money seized from the U.S. economy in the form of U.N. taxes, then vote for a democrat in '08.

Leadership

There is a huge leadership void in America with the local minimum (using a term from Calculus) located in Washington D.C. However a local maximum may exist in Steve Levy, a democrat and Suffolk County, NY executive.

He has lent his police officers to town building inspectors for raids that have shuttered several dozen overcrowded rooming houses. His Consumer Affairs department has increased arrests of unlicensed contractors — many of whom employ illegal immigrants — to about 300 a year from 70.

Last year, officers at the Suffolk County Jail ran immigration checks on 2,287 inmates, compared with 40 in 2004 (deportation proceedings were started against 376).

...Newsday calls him arguably the most formidable elected official in Long Island history. Immigrants advocates frequently accuse him of bigotry; one spokesman for local day laborers, the Rev. Allan Ramirez, has accused him of “ethnic cleansing.” (Paul Vitello, New York Times, “Suffolk’s Leader Wins a Following on Immigration, June 13, 2007.)

It seems Mr. Levy is taking a stand against illegal aliens and enjoying overwhelming support.

...it has also given him a national profile, an 80 percent local approval rating and the closest thing to a guaranteed re-election: endorsements from both the Democratic and the Republican Parties.” (Paul Vitello, New York Times, “Suffolk’s Leader Wins a Following on Immigration, June 13, 2007.)

I applaud Mr. Levy's efforts and pray he remains courageous and persistent in fighting the fight for his constituents and the nation. Republicans and Democrats take note: it is possible to do the right thing, put your self-interest aside and enjoy job security. Thank you Mr. Levy!

Treason! (In honor of Ann Coulter Thursday)

You don't have to look far to find examples of treason in the United States. After all most of it is egregious – easily tolerated in the death spiral of America – and much of it involving the invasion by illegal aliens. But this news from Utah is stunning. If I wasn't such a cynic I'd be non plussed.

At least a dozen teachers from Mexico are expected to arrive in Utah this August to help with the state's growing population of English language learners and its teacher shortage. Human resource representatives from Granite, Davis, Tooele and Salt Lake school districts traveled to Mexico City last week to meet with 50 preselected [sic] applicants seeking teaching positions in Utah. The job placements were created by an agreement forged by Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. during his 2005 visit to Mexico.

The arrangement is also intended to develop a better understanding of both countries' educational systems, history and culture while helping Spanish-speaking students in Utah do better in school. Richard Gomez, coordinator in the state's Office of Educational Equity, said that due to the state's teacher shortage, no Utahn is being deprived of a job. Gomez has been working with all parties involved to recruit the Mexican teachers. "It has been a long time coming," he said.” (Roxana Orellana, The Salt Lake Tribune, “Mexican Teachers to Buttress Local Schools”, June 13, 2007.)

Say what?! Is it just me or is this just plain wrong? The United States has immigration laws. We are a nation based on the rule of law. So why is it we have “representatives” in D.C. ignoring the law of the land while trying to rewrite the law for their advantage? Why is it we have National Guardsman and Border Control agents charged with protecting us ignoring the law to smuggler illegals in? And why is it we have the governor of Utah, Jon Huntsman Jr.(Republican), crafting deals which may be legal but certainly aid thousands of criminals in their invasion of the United States of America?

“...30 to 40 percent of the students are Spanish speakers. ...The ultimate goal is to make sure we have enough teachers and find teachers who are going to meet the needs of our risk populations...We have it [Mexico] as a neighbor and we have lots of students who have connections to Mexico. And it just seems like a good idea." (Roxana Orellana, The Salt Lake Tribune, “Mexican Teachers to Buttress Local Schools”, June 13, 2007.)

Now I have no way of knowing if these “at risk” children are illegal aliens or not but I'd be willing to be a good number of them are. Aiding them is wrong on many levels not the least of which is the redirection of resources from citizens to non-citizens. Anyway you look at it this it is not “a good idea”, it's just plain wrong.

p.s. What does “preselected” mean? Selection is inherently “pre”, you cannot select something ex post facto. Don't get me started!

Word of the Week

hemidemisemiquaver - the average attention span of an American, equal to the duration of a 1/64 musical note.
Now for some etymology.

hemi – refers to the “hemispherical” combustion chambers found on some cars, most notably Chryslers. Chrysler uses the word as a marketing tool (quite successfully). Many American consumers take the bait thinking it is unique (or new). The truth be known most don't know what “hemi” refers to other than the badge located conspicuously somewhere on the car. They are, however, pleased to know they have a “hemi” as evidenced by the grin on their face, the reward-facing bill of their NASCAR hat, and the frequent ejections of cigarette butts out the window.

demi – This is a reference to the beltway “demigods” we elect. Typically these elections are a product of a strong systemic bias towards the status quo and an ignorant, indifferent citizenry with an attention span of a...well a hemidemisemiquaver. This attention deficit prohibits them from being able to engage in any robust discussion of the real issues we face as a nation or give thoughtful consideration of the necessary credentials a candidate would need to confront them. This leads us to “semi”.

semi – the “semi” conscious state of most Americans as it relates to their inability to focus on important issues, qualify candidates, or make good life choices. Instead they squander what brain cells they have on hero worship, purchasing hemis, cigarettes, and lottery tickets. Their IQ is inversely proportional to the amount of rental furniture they have.

quaver – an eighth note, dummy.

There you have it. Call it etymology, verbal advantage, word power, or whatever; Just don't call it music.

Madame President

Another political shocker hits the general public today! Senator Bob Menendez (D NJ) will announce his support for Sen. Clinton in her presidential bid. This is a real shocker after Mrs. Clinton announced her meeting with the "women of Color" group. (Clinton is looking for unilateral support from the female Hispanics and their Africa- American counterparts.)
The saying goes "Birds of a feather stick together". This is almost too true. Hillary was involved with the Whitewater scandal. Her new supporter, Menendez, is currently being investigated on issues revolving around his leasing space to a "non-profit" agency that he helped get established as non-profit. Wonder how much payola he receives from his tenant. Menendez barely escaped with re-election this time in an area heavily fortified with an Hispanic populace. The republican pundits felt this spot was their best spot to win a seat from the Dem's. They were proved wrong, but only lost this race by a slim margin. Things don't look to bright for the long seated Rep in his new role. Partnering up with the devil will hurt one in the long run. Watch for further endorsements from other criminal types. Watch as this type of leadership takes us right down the tubes.

A Nation on Lunexa?

“A pleasing land of drowsy head it was, Of dreams that wave before the half-shut eye; And of gay castles in the clouds that pass, For ever flushing round a summer sky.” (The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving)

As many Americans breathe a sigh of relief at the apparent set back for the immigration “amnesty” bill, the invasion wages on aided and abetted by those charged with our security. Our “representatives” regroup for another attempt at foisting this bill on the American citizens and thereby setting into motion the beginning of the end of this once great nation. They have chosen to ignore the American citizens and their oath of office:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

Likewise, we now learn of three Texas National Guard soldiers have betrayed America and chosen to ignore their oath of enlistment:

"I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the State of (STATE NAME) against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the Governor of (STATE NAME) and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to law and regulations. So help me God."

Apparently the soldier’s new “oath” goes something like this:

"tell them ill only do 1 run @ no more than 20 people @ $150 a person and i want 2 leave @ 1930 hrs and ill go 2 San Anto if they want,…24 will b tuff 2 fit but ill try," (excerpt from a text message written by Pfc. Jose Rodrigo Torres – a Texas Army National Guardsman)

Poor spelling and grammar aside, this message tells me we have lost this country. Elected “representatives” are more concerned with their job security and their party then they are with protecting the nation who “elected” them. Our National Guard, NATIONAL GUARD is now helping the enemy! And there have been at least nineteen border control, BORDER CONTROL agents charged or implicated in border corruption schemes. This is a grave situation.

The only defense, the only way we are going to save the United States of America is by waking up. Wake up America! Shrug off the indifference, shoo off the numbing ignorance fluttering around us like the Lunexa butterfly. We are a nation asleep - a blissful, ignorant slumber.

When you wake up, visit the website: http://www.grassfire.org/, I think you’ll find you were asleep longer than you thought.

The Girl Next Door

Well the extremely rich girl from next door has finally done it and landed in jail. This young tart has managed to provoke even the most liberal set of judicial minds into putting her into her place. Paris has finally painted herself into a corner.
Lets examine her career path.

Since she is an heir to an extremely large financial war chest, and has been living on a trust since, well she probably has always lived from a trust. She probably has made her daddy really proud in the last few years. First there was Paris and Nicky frolicking all over the world. Then we have the proverbial "sex-tape" episode (don't you know her dad loved seeing her oral renderings on the Internet). What a tramp! Then she hooks up with this rich Greek guy named Paris and we are shown pictures of them wandering through life with drink in hand at all the greatest getaway spots. Lately, however, she has been on a real roll. Run-ins with the law, the no-panties freedom movement she founded with Britney, and now the heinous crime committed that landed her in jail. She can't drive or park a car. How simple is that. She gets to jail, pouts 'cause the food isn't from some trendy health food joint, and is let go. Unfortunately she can't stay away from trouble and is sent back kicking and screaming to serve her 45 day sentence in the pokey.

Put this spoiled little brat in the real population. Don't force other prisoners to re-bunk in order to make room for Paris-the video sex machine. (I'll bet there are some fun ideas roaming around the prison population right now.) Give her a taste of what her "Real Life" will be if she doesn't straighten up. She will, and will go back to the land of the Platinum-Spoon-in-Mouth Club, and live happily ever after - at least until her next raunchy video is released. Poor Paris- kinda feel sorry for her - don't cha.

Water Works ?

The BWWSB has once again proven that their lack of planning has helped exacerbate a problem condition. The last "drought" we had in the Jeffco metro area was a few years back. At that time these civic leaders should have gone in to the water supply lakes and dug out and deepened them. Then as the waters were filling up, our storage pools would have had a larger capacity and thusly would have helped lessen or avoid the current water situation that the metro area is facing. Since hindsight is always 20/20, I hope that the same BWWSB leadership team will review the current situation and put some funds into helping eliminate this as an issue. With an ever growing population, increasing usage of sprinkler systems, and in general a greater demand for water, it seems apparent that without some protection and some foresight, we can expect the current status to be repeated. Dredging and digging can probably be accomplished very cheaply. The BWWSB has a number of its former contractors serving time right now for bid rigging, etc., lets just put them to work on the county problems while they repay their debt to society. If not, I'll bet that a number of the bigger general contractors in the area would pitch in and loan equipment and personnel to do the needed digging. We also get some dirt to help erosion issues somewhere for free. I want to take showers. I want to wash dishes and flush toilets. I want to do this without waste, but I don't think that this city is ready for 1-2 flushes a day per household. Thought for the day in Waterworld: If its Yellow, let it Mellow; If its Brown, flush it Down - at least for now. Lets move to solve water storage issues for the future.

Family Vacation

As you know, I agressively and enthusiastically contribute to global warming every chance I get.

"But why Ed", you whine. "Why do you intentionally pollute Mother Earth with your wasteful and frivolous travel?"

Why? Because I'm not stupid enough to curtail my comfortable and decadent lifestyle for the sake of the druidical, kook religion known as modern environmentalism, that's why.

With that in mind, I'll be packing my family up in my gas-guzzeling '83 Country Squire(pictured above) this week and heading to the beach for a vacation.

Contributing in my stead this week will be guest bloggers Reid and David. Feel free to give 'em the business if you don't like what they say. I'll return probably Monday, a week from tomorrow.

Now where did I put those red Speedo's?

Power to the People!!!

For once Congress actually responded to the people this week. The dreadful immigration bill that craven senate democrats, dastardly senate republicans, and hapless George Bush tried to sneak past the American people, crashed and burned faster than Paris Hilton's home-detention plans...and deservedly so. On first glance, the bill seemed to be palatable, but when you look at the details, it's heinousness became apparent. Here are the low-lights of the bill: the legalization of criminals and gang members, the welcome mat laid out for extended family members still in Mexico, unlimited welfare support, complete lack of enforcement guarantees, no border closure, no taxation of remittances to Mexico, no deportation of imprisoned criminal illegals, unenforcable touchback requirements, asinine 1-day background search, arrival date approved based on promisory note, the list of horribly bad provisions in this bill goes on and on. That Ted Kennedy was overjoyed at the prospect of it's passage was a dead give-away to it's awfulness.

Hopefully the defeat of this bill will do two things, 1: force Congress to craft a bill that actually accomplishes what the American people want in terms of border control, deportation of undesirables, etc., and 2: those democrats and republicans who voted for it get defeated in the next election cycle and replaced with people willing to do what's best for the U.S. rather than what's best for them and their parties.

Chuck Shumer, Harry Reid, and Dick "the turbin" Durbin lamenting the defeat of their scheme to create 60 million instant democratic voters.

Pootie poot makes Bush look like a chump

Pootie Poot is a first-class communist jerk, but at the G8 summit, he made Bush look like a warmonger by comparison. In a previous post which you can read here, I talked about the possibility of another arms race between the U.S. and Russia concerning our missile defense shields in Europe, ostensibly to protect the EU from Iran's nukes. Here's Pootie trumping Bush in front of the whole world...

HEILIGENDAMM, Germany (AP) - Russia's President Vladimir Putin said Friday that U.S. missile defense interceptors could be located in Turkey, or even Iraq or on sea platforms, offering yet another alternative to an American plan for a missile shield in eastern Europe.
"They could be placed in the south, in U.S. NATO allies such as Turkey, or even Iraq," Putin said at a news conference after the close of the Group of Eight summit. "They could also be placed on sea platforms."

Putin has a point. If we are pretending to defend Europe against Islamic missile attacks then why don't we put the shields closer to those Islamic nations that we believe threaten the EU? Why put them in Eastern Europe if it's radical Islam, and not the Russians, we want to protect against? What Putin did was paint Bush into a corner by offering a better idea than Bush's. That Bush's handlers didn't see that coming is a testament that they need to go.

Is it just me or are all of you sick and tired of George W. Bush screwing up in everything he does? Immigration, the budget, foreign relations, the war on terrorists, social security and tax reform, all were ripe opportunities for meaningful policy initiatives that the Bush administration royally botched.

Is '08 here yet?

Can you say, "miscarriage of justice"?

I generally try not to comment on celebrities who are practically cliche's of themselves like Paris Hilton. (Notice I don't even bother with Britney any more). It's too easy to make the jokes.

That being said, that Paris got out of jail after only three days by not eating the food they served her, makes a mockery out of the justice system and worse, gives credence to race hustlers like Al Sharpton who'll certainly cry about preferential treatment for white folks. He'll whine that a black celebrity wouldn't get the same option of serving her sentence at home...and he'll be right.

If refusing to eat institutional meals gets you out of what you think of as "punishment", I would have been able to skip grades 3-7. (But for fish-lips Floyd stupidly trading me his roll for my butter-beans, I would not have eaten anything for lunch in the 4th grade)

I could have made the argument that 23 days in the clink just might have done Paris some good, but there's a ham sandwich's chance at Rosie's house that she'll learn anything from three days.

If you're a theif, you're welcome at The Home Depot

This week The Home Depot throws it's doors open to all shop-lifters and theives...

Man Says Home Depot Fired Workers For Catching Thieves

MIDWEST CITY, Okla. -- A former Home Depot employee said the company fired him and three other workers because they helped police catch several suspected shoplifters in May.

Midwest City police said the men helped officers catch suspected shoplifters as they tried to run from a store with lawn equipment.
An internal memo from Home Depot outlines that associates cannot accuse, detain, chase or call the police on any customer for shoplifting.

However, one of the fired employees said the company is selective in enforcing that policy.
"The loss-prevention guy at our Shields (Boulevard) store turned around and told me all we need to do is tell the shoplifter to have a good day as they leave the store. I said that just doesn't make sense."

Bob Stewart said what really doesn't make sense is a termination letter Home Depot gave him and three other employees after they helped police catch the shoplifters.

"We saw them with the merchandise. We saw them run out of the store. I never kept my eyes off of them. Then when we asked them for a receipt, and that's when they dropped the merchandise and they kept running. One guy still had a chainsaw while he was running, and that's when the cops tackled him," he said.

Finally, I can go take that router table I've had my eye on. Why not? Nobody will stop me.

It's Ann Coulter Thursday!

In today's column, Ann blasts the heinous Senate immigration bill and liberal's, including Bush, attempt to railroad it past the American people using baseless accusations of racism against anybody who voices opposition. A must read.

You can get the whole thing here.

The hostile colonization of Europe

The rapid Islamic colonization of Europe continues unabated...

Mohammed will likely become the most popular name for baby boys in Britain by the end of the year, The Times reported on Wednesday, citing government data.

Though official records from the Office for National Statistics list the spelling Mohammed 23rd in its yearly analysis of the top 3,000 names given to children, when all the different spellings of the name are taken into account, it ranks second, only behind Jack, according to The Times.

According to The Times, if the growth of the name Mohammed continues -- it rose by 12 percent last year -- the name will take the top spot by the end of this year.

The problem, other than their slavish observance of political correctness, is that the birthrate of British people in the UK is like 1.1...not nearly enough to replace the population which is 2.1. The birth rate of hostile colonizing Muslims is 6.0. The British population is literally decreasing with each generation while the Muslim population is increasing geometrically. In only a few generations, Muslims will be a majority in the U.K.

Are the Europeans so self-involved and decadent that they won't even breed? Apparently the sad answer to that existential question is...yes.

The Brits get a peek at their future overlords.

What's in Ed's CD player this week?

I know you've been asking yourselves, "I wonder what Ed's been listening to lately." Well here's the list in no particular order of preference...I like them all...

-Foo Fighters- In Your Honor

-Sting- Brand New Day

-Yellow Card- Lights and Sounds

-World Party- Goodbye Jumbo

-Foo Fighters- One by One

-Steely Dan- Showbiz Kids

-Joe Jackson- The Very Best of...

-No Doubt- The Singles 1998-2003

-Big Country- The Best of...

-Foo Fighters- There is Nothing Left to Lose

Clearly I've been on a Foo kick lately. Dave Grohl (drummer) was the only interesting member of Nirvana as far as I'm concerned, and it was a blessing for Cobain to have bought the farm. It gave Grohl the freedom to form his own band and write his own music.

The power of capitalism

What a great testament to the power of free-enterprise capitalism this story is...

WARSAW (Reuters) - A 65-year-old railwayman who fell into a coma following an accident in communist Poland regained consciousness 19 years later to find democracy and a market economy, Polish media reported on Saturday.

Wheelchair-bound Jan Grzebski, whom doctors had given only two or three years to live following his 1988 accident, credited his caring wife Gertruda with his revival.

"It was Gertruda that saved me, and I'll never forget it," Grzebski told news channel TVN24.

"For 19 years Mrs Grzebska did the job of an experienced intensive care team, changing her comatose husband's position every hour to prevent bed-sore infections," Super Express reported Dr Boguslaw Poniatowski as saying.

"When I went into a coma there was only tea and vinegar in the shops, meat was rationed and huge petrol queues were everywhere," Grzebski told TVN24, describing his recollections of the communist system's economic collapse.

"Now I see people on the streets with cell phones and there are so many goods in the shops it makes my head spin."

Nothing, nothing raises the human condition like unfettered capitalism. I can only imagine the joy in this man's heart after waking up to find his country free and prosperous, after being under the oppressive, stifeling boot of communism. Cool!

The dangerous welfare-State mentality

If you want to get a clue about how successfully liberals have indoctrinated Americans to feel entitled to things our parents had to compete for, read this...[emphasis mine]

75% OF AMERICAN WORKERS DON'T HAVE DECENT WAGES AND BENEFITS

Washington, DC -- Only 25.2 percent of American workers have a job that pays at least $16 per hour and provides health insurance and a pension, according to a new study by the Center for Economic and Policy Research.

The report, "How Good is the Economy at Creating Good Jobs?" found that between 1979 and 2004 the share of American workers in good jobs remained unchanged at about 25 percent, despite strong economic growth over that period. (The report defines a "good job" as one that offers at least $16 per hour or $32,000 annually, employer-paid health insurance and a pension.) In the last quarter century, the U.S. workforce has become older, more experienced and better educated, but 75 percent of workers are still struggling in jobs that do not provide health insurance, a pension and solid middle-class wages.

To take this article at face value, one might think that it was the God-given right of every working American to have insurance provided for them and their brood, higher wages than they are worth, a healthy retirement plan, and other fabulous cash and prizes...all generously paid for by the employer. One would be wrong! Jobs belong to the company, not the employee, and they are subject to the same laws of supply and demand that everything else in the market-place is.

A perfect example of this is General Motors. The reason GM is going out of business is because they are no longer primarily a car manufacturer. GM is primarily a jobs program for shiftless union workers, an exorbitant retirement provider for former shiftles union workers, and a health-care provider for current and former shiftless union workers.

Economics 101:
When workers are plentiful and jobs are scarce, wages and benefits are lower because workers compete for the few jobs. When jobs are plentiful and workers are scarce, wages tend to be higher with more benefits because companies are competing for employees.

Liberals' heinous plan is for all Americans to expect to have everything provided for them by somebody else. When Americans stop providing for their own selves, then liberals will have succeeded in creating the welfare State all good socialists dream about.

General Motors will look like this Chinese factory in a few years because of shiftless union workers. Why? Because GM is moving to China. It is the only place it can be competitive.

John Howard caves to global warming kooks

Climate change nuts would have the world's economic leaders willingly devolve their countries back to something resembling the 17th century with Draconian restrictions of CO2 emissions. (The whole climate change hysteria is a thin veil which masks supporters' unadulterated hatred of economic progress, freedom, and high standards of living) So far the U.S. and Australia have wisely resisted this disastrous nonsense, but thanks to Bush's craven pandering to eco-kooks in the U.S., Australia is poised to commit economic suicide too...

CANBERRA, Australia - Prime Minister John Howard ditched his long-standing opposition to a greenhouse gas reduction target for Australia with a pledge Sunday to set a national pollution limit next year.

Howard's new commitment to set an emissions target reflects his close ally President Bush's proposal last week for 15 of the world's worst-polluting countries — including Australia which is responsible for 1.5 percent of global emissions — to agree to targets next year.

That sounds like a lot, but 1.5% of what. They never report that man-made CO2 emissions make up only 3.2% of atmospheric CO2. For you government school graduates who were learning to put condoms on cucumbers instead of attending math class, that comes out to 0.048% of the total which is accounted for by Australia....hardly a number worth crippling your national economy over.

Citizens of Australia heading off to work...maybe for the last time if the stupid carbon-offset scheme gets put in place.
