The American people spoke today and the Senate wisely voted down the disasterous shamnesty bill...
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate drove a stake Thursday through President Bush's plan to legalize millions of unlawful immigrants, likely postponing major action on immigration until after the 2008 elections.
The bill's supporters fell 14 votes short of the 60 needed to limit debate and clear the way for final passage of the legislation, which critics assailed as offering amnesty to illegal immigrants. The vote was 46 to 53 in favor of limiting the debate.
The American people will be more than happy to entertain ideas of guest workers and legalization issues but the border must be closed first. It's stupid to do anything else. We know that the phrase "comprehensive reform" is code for, "we'll promise to close the border but in the mean time, we'll legalize 12-20 million new democrat voters."
Chappaquidic Ted needs a drink.

Ed, this is not good for America. This was our last chance for several years to do anything useful toward legisimizing all the illegals that are already here. The next time we address this issue, millions more will have come in illegally and our problem will have been unnecessarily magnified. We should have take the fleas with this particular dog and made the best of it.
You high-horse conservatives won't give an inch. It's about compromise fellas...compromise.
