“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Newest sniper rifle to be deployed in Afghanistan

I want one of these....

From ArmyTimes -- The XM2010 sniper rifle is making a name for itself in Afghanistan. Officials won’t say how many are there or where they are. But at the time of the Sept. 20 contract, officials said the first 250 rifles would be ready by early December and sent directly to Afghanistan.

No matter how many are there, this is clear: The weapon’s performance has been strong enough to warrant full fielding.

The effective range of this weapon is 1200meters with a .300 magnum, high-velocity round. If you haven't watched any sniper shots on Youtube, you should. Incredible!

I loved being a weapons loader in the Georgia Air Nat'l Guard for 16 years, but if I could go back, knowing what I know now, and choose any military job, it would be sniper. How awesome would it be to see a terrorist's head explode like a melon into pink mist 4 seconds after you fire your shot? Unbelievably awesome! That's how awesome.

That's one ugly gun...

That's a quick-attaching muzzle suppressor that blocks out 98% of the muzzle flash....you can only see the remaining 2% if you are directly in front of the barrel when it's fired....heh heh.

Cool rifle, but nothing beats the Barrett .50 cal, IMO. That is, if you can lug the thing. Not well known is that Canadian and Brit snipers hold distance records from A'stan.

Those guys used the Accuracy International L11583 and the record is a Brit who nailed two taliban from 1.54 miles away.

And certainly if I could purchase any weapon, it would be the Barrett .50cal. I wonder if it's possible for a civilian to actually buy a .50cal sniper rifle? Anybody know?

Barretts are certainly available - there are some for sale not 5 miles from me on S. Cobb Dr. in Smyrna. You just need a couple of thousand and the money to buy the .50 at a couple of bucks per shot.

I'm going to start saving up. Seriously, I want to see from how far away I can hit a taliban-head sized melon. Reckon I need a permit to tote one of those around in a gun rack?

Check your state gun laws - they are considered no differently than any other long gun. I think the crowd in California may have banned them. Generally in the free states of the SE, you'll be fine.
