Humans have been sending radio signals into space since about 1936. This graphic shows just how small our putative sphere of communication is in our own galaxy. The 200 light year stamp on the image would be the size of our blip in the year 2036 so it's actually smaller.....156 light years to be exact.
Still, there are 200 million stars hosting countless planets in a galaxy that is about 90,000 light years across. Surely some alien species has "heard" our call....unless they don't have devices that can detect our primitive radio signals. Either way, this shows just how small and insignificant Earth is in the grand scheme.
