This is how utterly stupid the nanny-state do-gooders have become in New York....
From MyFoxNY -- Some New York City chefs and restaurant owners are taking aim at a bill introduced in the New York Legislature that, if passed, would ban the use of salt in restaurant cooking.
"No owner or operator of a restaurant in this state shall use salt in any form in the preparation of any food for consumption by customers of such restaurant, including food prepared to be consumed on the premises of such restaurant or off of such premises," the bill, A. 10129 , states in part.
The legislation, which Assemblyman Felix Ortiz , D-Brooklyn, introduced on March 5, would fine restaurants $1,000 for each violation.
Good grief! Is there any part of your life that Bloomberg and other arrogant liberals don't want to control? The restaurant business in NY is a cornerstone of the tourism industry. If tourists want bland, tasteless, disgusting food, why not just go to England instead?
Banned, along with handguns, illicit drugs, and cigarettes.

You know, I could get behind the band wagon on trans-fats, simply because I didn't want them in my food. There were some legitimate health concerns and if the elimination in the long run saved money in health care costs, it kinda made sense as a public health issue. And the cooks were the controllers of the ingredient. Now salt does carry significant health risks also. But where the TOTAL UTTER STUPIDITY of this ban lies is:if you don't remove salt shakers or salt from the table, people will add it back;if you ban shakers, people will start carrying shakers or packets.AND if they try to ban those, I'm sure that some doctor's groups will get together and issue prescriptions for salt shakers so the patients won't have a low sodium from too low a salt intake. I Promise.
The market place is perfect for determining salt and trans-fat content in restaurant food. If people want it, they'll eat at the restaurant, if they don't want it, they can eat somewhere else. The government doens't have any business dictating anything to do with food other than the cleanliness of the kitchen in which it's prepared.
