France...legislating it's own downfall

In case you're dubious about France slouching toward societal disaster and economic collapse like I've been talking about, look no further than this article over at hotair.com.

The French nanny state already mandates that it's workers toil in a punishing 35hour maximum work week. It also guarantees months of government(taxpayer) paid summer leave for workers. AND, it makes it almost impossible for an employer to fire an employee for any reason. As if those socialist economic conditions weren't enough, now the enlightened class in the government is toying with the idea of daytime, work siestas for all employees.

France has completely forgotten how to produce, if it ever knew. At some point in the not too distant future, the cost to companies of caring and providing for employees will exceed the income those employees generate for the company. When that happens, the company goes out of business, reducing further the number of successful businesses that have to prop up the dwindling tax-base. A tax-base that must provide for the ever-growing citizen-loafer class.

OK, bear with me while I change the formatting of my blog. I'm not that fluent in HTML and I'm learning the hard way...trial and error. It should only take me a day or two to get it like I want it so in the meantime, I'll still be posting stuff so don't go away. Hopefully if I can figure out how, I'll be adding hyper-text links so you can jump easily to my sources, a "labels" menu so if you want to look only at my ridicule of dumb celebrities you can, and an easier to read color scheme.

Did Geiko jump the shark?

The Geiko caveman commercials are among the favorite ads around my house. They're clever, original, creative, and like all really good commercials, deliver their message with subtlety and indirectness. Over at pajamasmedia.com they are having a debate about whether the "therapist" ad jumped the shark for Geiko.

It is less subtle and more direct than my favorite (on the airport sidewalk with the squash racket) but I don't think it jumped the shark. It's a little too "Woody Allen" with it's whinyness to the therapist and all, but it's not over the top or too direct for me.

In case you are a fan of the airport one, the music being played is by Royksopp. I think I'll try to find that track...I have to have it.

The Islamification of the West

I borrowed this from Allahpundit over at hotair.com. It's a quote from an interview with Bernard Lewis regarding the Islamification of Europe. As you read it, replace "Europe(an)" with "America(n)" and see if that doesn't sound about right...

As we head toward the very important '08 elections, listen to the candidates' platforms. If they smack of PC and multi-culturalism, be afraid, be very afraid.

Around every corner you see immigrant representatives of unassimilated, hostile cultures demanding that we in the U.S. conform to, and embrace, their bizarre cultural practices to the point of denying our own. Ex.1. the flying Imams demanding prayer rooms at all U.S. airports. 2. our media subserviently refraining from publishing images of Muhammad. 3. Muslim high-schools in Illinois demanding that no men attend their womens' basketball team's road games against non-Muslim schools. 4. Muslim women in Mich. demanding that Fitness USA provide for them a segregated workout facility so men can't watch them exercise. 5. Muslim swimmers in Wash. demanding that the YMCA provide special swim times during which no men, even life-guards, would be allowed in the pool area. and finally #6. CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) suggesting that American women behave and dress more conservatively so as not to cause Muslim women to be uncomfortable. The list goes on and on. Incrementally we are giving our culture and national identity away. Like Europe, only more slowly, America is dying a death of a thousand cuts.

We will die as surely as Europe is dying if we don't start demanding that immigrants assimilate and become "American". That means speaking English, respecting our borders, and pursuing happiness by practicing whatever wacky religion they want as long as they don't infringe on the rights of others to pursue happiness.

Smelly hippies from Hollywood to Hoboken decended on Washington by literally the hundreds this weekend to protest the war in Iraq. Led by nutty leftists Jane Fonda, Sean Penn, Susan Sarandan, and Tim Robbins, the hemp throng demonstrated their displeasure with GWB and the war with tired rhetoric and by vandalizing the Capital Hill steps with spray painted anti-war messages.

For a reason that remains a disappointing mystery to me, the capital police didn't shoot them.

Fundies can be as bad as liberals

OK, I just posted earlier, my complaint against liberals who want to regulate every facet of the lives of free Americans. Now it's the fundamentalists' turn to experience the sting of my whip...

Raleigh | Citing the controversy surrounding the Dakota Fanning film Hounddog, the leader of the state Senate Republicans says he wants the government to review scripts before cameras start rolling in North Carolina.

That system, said state Sen. Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, would apply only to films seeking the state's lucrative filmmaker incentive, which refunds as much as 15 percent of what productions spend in North Carolina from the state treasury.

"Why should North Carolina taxpayers pay for something they find objectionable?" said Berger, who is having proposed legislation drafted.

It seems North Carolina's fundies want to have their cake and eat it too. They want to give filmmakers incentive to use their state to make movies but then they want censorship rights over content. I'll bet 99% of the people with their shorts all in a bunch over the Dakota Fanning rape scene haven't even seen it yet. Their knee-jerk outrage probably comes from the mass e-mail they received at work from their sister's boss's cousin's neighbor whose boyfriend is the second assistant to the key grip on the set, who swears there were child-safety and obscenity laws broken in the making of the scene.

Please!!! What did they expect when they invited Hollywood liberals to make movies in their state? The problem here is you have a bunch of irate soccer moms whose daughters worship Dakota Fanning, but who can't go see this movie because of the subject matter.

This reminds me of when I was a teenager and a weatherman in Atlanta, Guy Sharp, out of the blue called for a state-wide boycott of Proctor&Gamble products because there is a mysterious crescent moon and like 7 stars on their labelling(look on the can of Comet under your sink and check it out). Without any evidence more than a rumor flying around his church, he claimed it was satanic symbolism or something or other.

I'm not saying that Dakota Fanning's rape scene isn't very disturbing and uncomfortable to watch...I'm certain that it is. But if it's integral to the story, not gratuitous, and doesn't violate child endangerment laws, which I understand is the case here, really, as conservatives shouldn't we be willing to allow expression, even if it's disturbing and uncomfortable?

The regulators

Government regulators possess a seemingly boundless appetite for slices of our lives to control. Just lately, there have been outrageous bans on trans fat, cell phone use on bicycles, dry-cleaning chemicals, smoking at home, etc...

(Playfuls.com) Children growing up near freeways could experience serious lung problems later on in life, according to a recent American study.

The 3,677 children from 12 Southern Californian communities followed for eight years are proof of this theory. A team of researchers found that children who lived within 500 yards of motorways between the ages of 10 and 18 had significantly lower lung volume and peak flow than children who lived more than 1,500 yards away.

There are potential long-term consequences for diseases such as asthma and bronchitis, as the team reported in The Lancet online. The children who participated in the study underwent medical evaluation periodically, the team measuring their lung function yearly.

They also measured the air quality in the area, and knew how close the youngsters lived to freeways from their addresses. The children were in the fourth grade (average age: 10 years) when the study started in the 1990s.

Expect the government to soon announce nanny-State regulations which limit how close to roadways you may purchase a home if you have children. Quickly after that, insurance companies, who are in the business of not paying claims, will stop paying for lung problems of patients if they can show that you grew up within 500yards of a motorway.

There is no part of your lives that liberals don't want to control. We are too stupid, unenlightened, and incompetent to live our lives as we see fit. The liberal elitists know what's best for us and they'll use the power of the State to enforce their world-view on us. If this appeals to you, vote Democrat.

Hollywood moonbats abandon Hillary for Obama

Compared to her husband, Hillary Clinton has all the appeal of a case of shingles. Her vote for the war in Iraq alienated her from the radical, hate-America left who pretty much control the Democrat party. In addition, Hollywood leftists love a new face and without Bill, Hillary is old news. Now, all the raving loons who Bill Clinton counted on to make him hip with the young voters are falling all over themselves to support Sen. Obama. Their support of Obama amounts to a cult of personality just like their slave-like worship of Clinton. It matters not to Hollyweirdos that Obama has no executive experience and is as deep as a bird-bath when it comes to foreign policy, he's physically attractive(like them) and is a minority. Hollywood loves a good cause, and Barak Hussein Obama provides them with a double whammy -- a minority Muslim to show the world how tolerant and accepting they are.

In the end however, it may not matter to Hillary that Hollywood endorses Obama. Her $100million attack machine will make minced meat out of him if she thinks he poses a serious challenge toward the end of '07. And with the sympathetic media solidly behind her like rats following a piper, Hillary can control the issues in her favor.

Of all the stupid, depraved things that Hollywood and media liberals do, it's the smug self-righteousness in which they wallow as they revel in each other's misery...phony misery that they caused themselves...that makes me sick.

ET has confirmed that embattled "Grey's Anatomy" star ISAIAH WASHINGTON has begun counseling for an anti-gay slur he made during last week's Golden Globes awards and on the set of his hit ABC show.

So now if you say something unpleasant, the Thought and Speech Police insist you undergo a counseling intervention and reprogramming so that your opinions are the correct ones. The sick think about this isn't that Washington is seeking help. It's that he is forced to seek help so that the delicate, sensitive liberals he offended can feel righteous and morally superior. It's the modern equivalent of the pillory. Washington has to stand in the public square and let his colleagues throw rotten fruit at him. Only then, having been right and properly chastised, will they allow him to exist among them again. The self-assigned, moral superiority of Hollywood liberals that disgusts me.

A simple apology is never good enough for liberals. There isn't enough public groveling and self-flaggelation involved. Ironically, Hollywood liberals, the most morally vacant of Americans, are the very people who demand thought and speech offenders like Washington lay prostrate before them, and beg for forgiveness. He really only owes one person an apology.

I don't think it was OK for Isaiah Washington to call T.R. Knight a "fag", but I have less respect for Knight if it was him for whom a simple apology wasn't enough.

For all the Washington bluster about the impossibility of rounding up illegal aliens to be sent home, it turns out to not be all that hard...

Federal officials fanned out across Southern California over the past week in one of the biggest sweeps of its kind, arresting 761 illegal immigrants ranging from murder suspects to visa violators.

Ending Tuesday, the raids were part of Operation Return to Sender - a national effort by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency that has netted more than 13,000 illegal immigrants nationwide since June 2006.

Some 450 of those arrested have already been deported, or voluntarily returned, to their native countries, ICE officials said.

"Anytime we can take 761 people off the street who have violated the laws of this country is a big success," said Jim Hayes, Los Angeles field office director for ICE's detention and removal operations.

The Southern California raids took place in Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, Riverside and San Bernadino Counties. They included the arrest of two men near Palm Springs wanted for murder in Sinaloa, Mexico.

The men were turned over to Mexican law enforcement officials on Friday.

The majority of those arrested in the Southland were Mexican, but they included nationals from 13 other countries, including India, Japan, Poland, the Ukraine and Trinidad.

See, despite what Bush says, they can be rounded up and sent back to whatever stinking, third-world rat hole they came from. And you don't have to round them all up. Once word gets out that the round up is happening, and the employer penalties start getting enforced, they will start to leave on their own.

"Will it take years to reduce the alien population down to something manageable?" Of course.
"Will Americans have to pay slightly more for goods, services, and chimichangas that illegals once provided?" Of course.
"Will the deported illegals just turn around and walk back across the border?" Not necessarily if we close the border and show that we mean business when it comes to deportation.
"Will it cost too much to attempt deportation of 10 million people?" Not when you tally the costs of them being here indefinitely, in terms of social programs, free education, free medical care, depressed wages, border community blight, the costs associated with alien crime, and the societal costs of 20million completely unassimilated foreigners demanding that we change our culture to accomodate theirs...all while paying almost nothing in taxes.

JERUSALEM — Israeli President Moshe Katsav asked parliament on Wednesday to temporarily remove him from office after Israel's attorney general recommended that he be indicted on rape and other charges, according to parliamentary spokesman Giora Pordes.

Too bad Bill Clinton didn't have the decency to step down after he was accused of rape, and/or sexual battery, by no less than four women. President Katsav needs a smear machine like the Clinton's, and willing accomplices in the media, so he can befoul his accusers and force them to go away in shame...it worked for Bill.

Terrorist multi-taskers

The escalation brought the Lebanese capital to a virtual standstill and heightened fears that the nearly two-month long political crisis could burst into sectarian conflict.

Until now, the opposition protest has largely been noisy but peaceful, as both sides dug in for a long fight. Hezbollah, together with the Christian Free Patriotic Movement and several smaller groups, descended on Beirut last month, calling for Mr. Siniora’s resignation and for early parliamentary elections in order to form a so-called national unity government in which Hezbollah and its allies would have veto power.

Where do the terrorists in Hezbollah find time to destroy their own way of life by rioting, and at the same time, fire the occasional rockets into Israel? Talk about multi-tasking. Of course Hezbollah, all other Arab states, and the American and European media will figure out a way to blame the dirty Joooos for all the carnage and destruction.

I guess this is going to be Race-Day at TRR. It's kind of ironic that the Congressional Black Caucus would black-ball a white congressman who represents a majority black community, solely because of his skin color...but then they are all Democrats so what else besides double-standards would you expect?

Freshman Rep. Stephen I. Cohen, D-Tenn., is not joining the Congressional Black Caucus after several current and former members made it clear that a white lawmaker was not welcome.

"I think they're real happy I'm not going to join," said Cohen, who succeeded Rep. Harold Ford, D-Tenn., in a majority-black Memphis district. "It's their caucus and they do things their way. You don't force your way in. You need to be invited."

Cohen said he became convinced that joining the caucus would be "a social faux pas" after seeing news reports that former Rep. William Lacy Clay Sr., D-Mo., a co-founder of the caucus, had circulated a memo telling members it was "critical" that the group remain "exclusively African- American."

Other members, including the new chairwoman, Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., and Clay's son, Rep. William Lacy Clay, D-Mo., agreed.

"Mr. Cohen asked for admission, and he got his answer. ... It's time to move on," the younger Clay said. "It's an unwritten rule. It's understood. It's clear."

What is the purpose of the CBC if not to assist these black representatives to better advance the interests of their constituencies? All representative Cohen wants to do is be a part of the mechanism of representation his constituency deserves. He should pitch a hissy fit over this and make the race-baiters defend not letting him in the club because if his skin color.

I hate to be the one who points this out but, this is yet another example of black leaders demanding from white society that they be viewed as equals regardless of race, while setting themselves apart based precisely on race.

If you challenge a black person on any basis in this country, you are automatically accused of being a racist.....I guess this post makes me a racist.

Mainstream Media Today

Two great football games were played on Sunday. Two teams are left to play for the Super Bowl. The winner is world champ!! These teams, like all football teams, have head coaches. The two coaches happen to be black. These are the first 2 black head coaches ever in the Super Bowl. That is a good thing, however, the media needs to leave it at that. I listened last night to ESPN News and heard the biggest pile of crap announced. Imagine that a Sports channel has digressed into the morass of reporting racism.

Bill Parcels resigned as the Head Coach of the Dallas Cowboys yesterday. The first ESPN report indicated that he chose his announcement time to move the "spotlight", not from the Super Bowl, but from the 2 African American Head coaches in it. What a load!! The reporter went on to state that Bill Cowher's resignation, as well, was timed to take away from these 2 mens' accomplishments. Hogwash!!

I have been around football since I played in elementary school. Parcels' resignation was announced so that the public would know the facts, and that Dallas could get a replacement to the Senior Bowl game this weekend to evaluate talent. Cowher resigned after the season. Unfortunately, this comes during the playoffs. If correct, it was during the first week of said playoffs when Chicago had a bye and Indy was playing, along with 3 other teams. Those teams are coached by white men. No mention of showing them up, just of the 2 black coaches.

I am tired of the media dredging up inane arguments to keep the chasm of racism alive and well. We are all Americans- period. We are not Latino-Americans, Latvian-Americans, African-Americans, and/or whatever type of ethnicity one was derived from. This country was established as a great melting pot from all other countries. As a people, we are nothing more than what we allow ourseves to be. If we continue to let the press tell us that people are different[based on skin color], then guess what, they will be different always. Accept a man for what he is and what he stands for, not because he or she is "whatever".

I think that ESPN owes these 2 coaches an apology for demeaning them. I know that neither man wants to be in the spotlight, and that both want the attention focused on the game and their teams. Its too bad that announcers can comment on opinion, stating it as fact, without regard to the consequences. I wonder what would have happened if "Jimmy the Greek" were still alive and referred to these men derogatorily. There would be hell to pay - Bank on it!! But an announcer that is a minority can spew his vile venom of racism and it is accepted. I think that this is deplorable and should be changed immediately.

Sorry for this rant.

Ed --- Reid beat me to this point so I'll just offer a post-script: Out of one side of their mouths, the media, PC-dogooders, politicians, and of course Jesse and Al tell us that we should be a color-blind society, that we should look beyond the color of a man's skin(or gender, orientation, handicap, creed, or nationality) and recognize his accomplishments as stand-alone qualifications for praise. Then, out of the other side, they insult accomplished minorities by qualifying their achievments in the context of arbitrary statistics like skin color. By making a fuss about coach Dungy and Smith's skin color, ESPN is conveying the insulting message that a black man achieving greatness in his field is somehow unexpected and therefor noteworthy. If a man should not be criticized because of his skin color, then why should a man be praised because of his skin color? ESPN should treat coaches Dungy and Smith as equals with other coaches by not obsessing over their race, and give them credit for achieving greatness as football coaches, not black football coaches.

ESPN(and PC society) demand that all men be treated as equals while paradoxically celebrating their differences.

THE first images have emerged of a daring mission in which four British marines strapped themselves to the sides of helicopter gunships in a bid to recover a fallen colleague in Afghanistan.
The astonishing images show members of Arbroath-based 45Commando, strapped to the outside of two Apache helicopters as they prepared to retrieve the body of their comrade, Lance Corporal Mathew Ford.

Ford, 30, had been killed instantly by Taliban fire as he participated in an assault on a fort in the southern province of Helmand. When the marines fell back to regroup they realised the section commander was missing and hatched the dramatic plan to retrieve him.

Initial plans to return to the fort in amphibious Viking vehicles, which were used in the original assault were scrapped because it would have taken too long.

Instead, in a mission dubbed "Flight of the Phoenix", the two Apaches were scrambled and four volunteers were quickly found to carry it out.

The four commandos flew into a fierce gunfight in southern Afghanistan last week clinging to the stabiliser wings of two Apache helicopters before running to recover the body.

Military photographers captured a series of images showing how the four marines, Colin Hearn, 45, Gary Robinson, 26, David Rigg, 30, and Chris Fraser-Perry, 19, fastened themselves to bolted handholds on either side of the aircraft as it flew 35m above the desert. A third Apache provided covering fire.

Another of the dramatic pictures, taken from the gun camera of one of the Apaches, shows the other helicopter heading towards the Taliban fort.

The marines took just five minutes to find and retrieve Ford's body.

The fighting men from Australia, the U.K., and the U.S. are cut from the same cloth. I can't wait to see the pictures or video of this.

Gov't educated no doubt

Romanian snowboarders have staged a protest at the lack of snow in front of the country's weather institute.

Blocking traffic, the snowboarders sat in the road and only moved on when weather officials said that their complaint at the lack of snow "would be passed on to a higher authority", Ananova reports on January 16th.

I thought European youths were supposed to be vastly smarter than American youths. Even our stupid, government-educated snowboarders wouldn't protest the weather.

Well of course he did. If he gets his wish and is deported, he'll sneak right back in next month. As much as I hate the idea of our tax dollars providing medical/dental care, meals, warm showers, and a clean place to sleep to an illegal alien for 30 years, the 4 year old victim deserves better justice than to have this animal deported. An appropriate and cheap punishment for this guy would be to lock him in a windowless room for 5 minutes with the victim's father who has an aluminum bat.

Sen. John Kerry on Thursday called for an investigation into security weaknesses in the Defense Department's surplus sales that have let buyers for Iran and China acquire aircraft parts and other valuable military gear.

The Massachusetts Democrat sought an inquiry by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee after The Associated Press reported that in several instances middlemen for the countries had exploited security flaws to acquire sensitive surplus.

Good for John Kerry. I hope he gets to the bottom of the security flaws and stops this kind of thing.

This latest call to silence skeptics follows a year (2006) in which skeptics were compared to "Holocaust Deniers" and Nuremberg-style war crimes trials were advocated by several climate alarmists.

The Weather Channel’s (TWC) Heidi Cullen, who hosts the weekly global warming program "The Climate Code," is advocating that the American Meteorological Society (AMS) revoke their "Seal of Approval" for any television weatherman who expresses skepticism that human activity is creating a climate catastrophe.

Gender politics

Perky news reader Katie Couric took time out from destroying what's left of the CBS news organization to complain that women aren't given more cushy positions in politics and corporate America...

Fifty-one percent of America is female, but women make up only about sixteen percent of Congress—which, as the Washington Monthly recently pointed out, is better than it’s ever been...but still not as good as parliaments in Rwanda (forty-nine percent women) or Sweden (forty-seven percent women). Only nine Fortune 500 companies have women as CEO’s.

That meeting was a reality check for me—and not just about Iraq. It was a reminder that all of us still have an obligation to ask: Don’t more women deserve a place at the table too?"

Katie probably has no idea how far statements like that retard the advancement of women in the market place. Is she seriously suggesting that women should be elected, or promoted to CEO just because we need more women in places of leadership? Evidently, since she mentioned that women comprise 51% of the population, a gender quota should be applied to Congress and all Fortune 500 companies. Should there also be a race quota? How about a handicapped quota? Gays are probably underrepresented in corporate leadership positions...how about a sexual orientation quota? (Representative Barney Frank is so flamboyantly gay that Congress doesn't need any more gays to meet Katie's quota)

Katie seems to think that positions of power and influence should be doled out based on perceived fairness, rather than earned based on hard work, ability, and objectively proven results.

How insulted would Katie be if CBS admitted that they chose her as news anchor because in the interest of fairness they wanted to rectify the problem of the scarcity of women reading the evening news? Katie would swear that she was hired because she earned it as a serious professional journalist with a proven track record in the news industry(an arguable point). Why shouldn't all people be promoted or elected because they earned it and are deserving of it? Preferential treatment because of gender, race, or orientation is blatantly discriminatory. Katie knows better, but as a liberal she can't help regurgitating gender equality dogma.

Katie thinks that women should be given positions they didn't earn. Of course she would be exempt from this because she earned her position.

Don't be fooled by the "Fairness Doctrine"

The Fairness Doctrine was a regulation of the United States' Federal Communications Commission which required broadcast licensees to present controversial issues of public importance, and to present such issues in an honest, equal and balanced manner. It has since been repealed by the FCC and aspects of it have been questioned by courts. Wikipedia

For the uninitiated, the dreadfully named Fairness Doctrine, first passed by Congress in the 40's, was intended to apply to the few broadcast networks so that people would get accurate reporting on important issues of the day. Now, the Democrats intend to renew the Doctrine and apply it to talk radio. Why? Because liberals cannot compete on the talk radio free market...nobody listens to their mindless, hateful drivel. So now they are using the Fairness Doctrine to demand equal air time. Here's how it would work...

Talk radio stations are in business to make money. Under the FD, they would be forced to air appallingly dreadful liberal shows like Al Franken's and Janine Garafalo's. Liberal shows make no advertising money because nobody listens to them. Democrats know that radio stations will have no choice but to cancel the successful conservative shows rather than lose money airing liberal shows to which nobody listens. Liberals don't particlarly care whether Al Franken is successful, they just want to insure that conservative radio is off the air. Why don't they care? Because they already have NPR, CBS, NBC, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, and most big-city fish wrappers, all who have abandoned all pretense of journalistic objectivity and openly advance the Democrats' pinko-commie agenda. Without conservative talk radio, liberals and their willing accomplices in the media will be the sole sources of information for consumers.

"But Ed", you query, "the word 'fairness' implies subjectivity. Who would decide what is fair and what is not in the free market?"

Excellent question! Under the Fairness Doctrine, the congressional majority(Democrats) would determine what's fair. It's not the government's business to be the arbiter of fairness in the free market. The listeners, and only the listeners, decide who wins in the radio market. If the liberal message cannot compete successfully for listeners, tough luck.

Of course the enviro-moonbats out there, like Al Gore, will eat this up. They'll cite it as more proof that mankind is a parasitic corruptor of Mother Earth. Sadly, scare tactics and dramatic props like the "Doomsday Clock" resonate with dumb, government-educated Democrats.

Racial Hate Feeds a Gang War’s Senseless Killing

Apparently there is a violent turf war going on in Los Angeles between rival black and Hispanic gangs. Ordinarily I would say get out of the way and let them kill each other off. Gangs offer nothing good for society so it's preferable that they kill one another. That being said, they are killing innocent civilians who just happen to have the same skin color as the other gang.

This is what happens when the neighborhoods of disaffected, angry, black, gangster-rap youths are encroached upon by unassimilated, unemployable, Hispanic thugs. Both gangs are probably trying to stake out turf in which to sell drugs.

Other than rounding all gang members up and shooting them, there are no short-term solutions. Unfortunately, I'm not sure there are any long-term solutions either.

My advice: If you live in a gang-infested neighborhood...get out! What else is there?

That says a lot about the nutty left base. Third, seriously, are the Dems thinking of recycling Gore and Kerry? Gore says he's not running and Lurch is an idiot. So two guys who have no hope of winning get 4 times Hillary's percentage? Fourth, Wesley Clark is popular right now only because he's a former General trying to appeal to the base by bashing his former boss, GWB. When it comes down to brass tacks, the left base will abandon him. Fifth, that leaves the Breck girl to top the poll as the only viable candidate to get more than 1%. I really don't see his appeal, even to dumb liberals. He's an effiminate, tort lawyer who fleeced dumb juries into giving him a multi-million dollar fortune by sueing perfectly competent OB/GYN's out of work. His record is about as thin as Obama's. I mean what has he done besides not deliver the South for Kerry?

As weak as the Republican ticket will undoubtedly be, the Democrats have their own problems to solve.

Circumventing the Constitution

Of all the ways Democrats attempt to get around the Constitution every day, this is probably the most transparently craven...

BISMARCK, N.D. -- A movement to essentially junk the Electoral College and award the presidency to the winner of the nationwide popular vote is making some headway in states large and small -- including, somewhat improbably, North Dakota.

The National Popular Vote movement is aimed at preventing a repeat of 2000, when Democrat Al Gore lost despite getting more votes than George W. Bush.

Backers are asking states to change their laws to award their electoral votes to the candidate who wins the popular vote nationally.

The founding fathers estabilished the electoral college for two reasons, to give small states more of a say in the presidency, and to maintain electoral balance between the individual states and the voters. Electing the U.S. president by simple popular vote would allow somebody like Hillary to become president by courting the wacky California/West Coast libs and the black vote in New York and only a few other states, while ignoring the vast majority of the rest of the country. The electoral college forces national candidates to have broad appeal across the country.

Of course Democrats want to have mob rule elect presidents. That way their candidates can ignore red-state America altogether. To typical subversive liberals, the Constitution is something to be gotten around in order to foist their dreadful world view on America.

Looks like The Police may be getting close to a reunion tour to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Apparently, Andy Sommers and Stewart Copeland were spotted at a low-key birthday party for Sting's wife Trudy Styler. Also, Sting was spotted at the preview of a indie film on which Sommers and Copeland did the sound track. All this togetherness has fueled the reunion rumors.

As a huge Police fan, I would be stoked to see these guys play together again.

"But Ed", you whine, "Sting is a Hollywood, enviro-lib who is anti-military and very critical of George Bush. How can you be a fan?"

If a band makes music that I like, I can segregate their idiotic politics from their music. Additionally, artists like Bono, Dave Matthews, and Sting at least have somewhat intelligent, well thought out, objections to certain policies...I can respect that without agreeing. The Dixie Chicks and Barbara Streisand, on the other hand, are vapid, airheaded, bimbos who mindlessly regurgitate liberal dogma. They aren't taken seriously by anybody because they aren't serious. All they have to offer is personal attacks founded in raw hatred of GWB rather than legitimate(albeit wrong), long-held positions on issues. There's a difference.

Et tu, DiscoveryChannel? Et tu?

So my kid and I are watching the Discovery Channel Sunday night. There was this cool show on about the 6 most dramatic ways the Earth could come to an end. They had great special effects, science, and data to show how it would really happen.

The first three were natural disasters...1.Earth gets simultaneously ripped apart and crushed in the gravity of a black hole 2. A killer asteroid collides with Earth and destroys all life leaving only roaches to rule 3. The magma lake that is known to exist below Yellowstone erupts, and spews enough sulfer ash into the upper atmosphere to plunge Earth into essentially permanent winter.

Now for the man-made disasters: 1. Global thermo-nuclear war breaks out when Iran, the Norks, or some other rogue state launches a weapon 2. I cannot to save my own life remember what #2 was because I was so astonished and disappointed by #3. Of course by now you have probably guessed that the most dire, immediate, man-made threat to the existence to human life on Earth is Man-Made Global Warming.

I can't remember who hosted the show but she breathlessly interviewed Al Gore and a steady stream of "scientists" who were saying that global warming deniers were just as vile and soulless as holocaust deniers. According to Al, when the Greenland Ice Shelf finally melts, the global ocean levels will have risen 20 feet. He actually predicted, and with a straight face too, that within the next 20 years or so, 80% of the Florida penninsula would be covered with water leaving millions of refugees.

This whole otherwise interesting show was a setup to compare man-made global warming with the absolute worst things that could happen to Earth...worse than nuclear war, worse than a black hole even. And of course, the evil, uncaring, capitalist pigs in the U.S. made our country the primary culprit contributing to the Earth's demise. China and India, the two fastest developing countries, both of which have zero pollution controls on their industries, were never mentioned. This was an attack piece on the U.S. plain and simple.

See the Discovery Channel should stick to actual science and avoid taking political sides because they just lost a viewer.

The Iraqis actually have tables dating back centuries which calculate the correct length of rope, given the weight of the condemned and the height of the gallows, that will properly snap the neck without decapitating the person...theoretical tables that is. Maybe somebody poured some rocks in his pocket just before the trap door opened.

There really isn't a point to this post, I just thought it made an absolutely hilarious visual.

You reap what you sow

Lot's of guys are posting on this subject lately so I thought I'd put in my two cents worth...

Liberals love to congratulate themselves on their compassion regarding their fellow citizens who are homeless. To them, "compassion" is seeing to it that the government generously gives the homeless stuff...other peoples' stuff, never their own stuff. They always claim that spending on social problems yeilds solutions to social problems. Based on that, one might assume that the states in which liberals mindlessly wallow in their own self-congratulatory, socialist utopia of giving would also be the states where homelessness is at a minimum...one would be wrong.

It turns out the 5 most liberal states(New Mexico, California, Washington, Vermont, New York) regarding taxation, voting record, individual and economic liberty, indigent care, etc, are custodians of 31% of the homeless in America. That's right, the more liberals you have, the more bums there are sleeping and urinating in the streets. "But how could this be?", You ask.

Look, why do you think bums and panhandlers are called "bums" and "panhandlers"? It's because their primary purpose each day is to get people to give them free stuff. So predictably, they will go wherever they think they can score the best stuff.

Arrogant, superior liberals think of themselves as supremely compassionate and nice. In addition they feel guilty about their success as white people, so they feel they have to do something to help the smelly, unpleasant bum sleeping in the doorway of the local Starbucks. Having the government hand out fantastic goody bags of cash and entitlements to anybody who asks for them not only aleviates liberals' white guilt, it also absolves them of having to actually do anything themselves. Simple support of government action is equal to compassion in the minds of do-gooder liberals.

Why, it's almost as if the economic principle of [subsidizing behavior(in this case indigency) gets you more of that behavior], stands true. Who knew?

Depraved Democrats

Just when I thought it was impossible for craven Democrats to plumb the depths of political depravity any deeper, Sen. Barbara Boxer(D) California, digs a little more putrid sludge out of the hole...

[Sec. Condoleezza Rice appeared before the Senate in defense of President Bush's tactical change in Iraq, and quickly encountered Boxer.
"Who pays the price? I'm not going to pay a personal price," Boxer said. "My kids are too old, and my grandchild is too young."
Then, to Rice: "You're not going to pay a particular price, as I understand it, with an immediate family."

To dismiss Sec. Rice's opinion about an administration policy because she has no kids is in stupefyingly poor taste and wholy without class. Condi should have ripped Babs a new one with a question such as,

"Senator Boxer, based on that logic, can one safely assume that you will have absolutely nothing to say in the future about civil rights in this country because you are a privilidged white girl who knows nothing of the plight of blacks in America?"

I can easily think of a half dozen ways Condi could have totally humiliated Boxer, and exposed her as the mean-spirited craven liberal she is. Why don't conservatives ever fight back? It's infuriating to watch them get abused and say nothing. We know the media will hate us no matter what, so why not get our licks in?

The Stella Awards

I got this e-mail yesterday(and probably so did everybody online in America) so I thought I would post it as an example of what's wrong with our legal system. These examples show it much better than I can describe it...

Time once again to review the winners of the Annual "Stella Awards."


The Stella Awards are named after 81 year-old Stella Liebeck who spilled hot coffee on herself and successfully sued McDonald's (in NM). That case inspired the Stella Awards for the most frivolous, ridiculous, successful lawsuits in the United States .

Here are this year's winners:

5th Place (tie):
Kathleen Robertson of Austin , Texas , was awarded $80,000. by a jury of her peers after breaking her ankle tripping over a toddler who was running inside a furniture store. The owners of the store were understandably surprised at the verdict, considering the misbehaving little toddler was Ms Robertson's son .


5th Place (tie):
19-year-old Carl Truman of Los Angeles won $74,000 and medical expenses when his neighbor ran over his hand with a Honda Accord. Mr. Truman apparently didn't notice there was someone at the wheel of the car when he was trying to steal his neighbor's hubcaps .


5th Place (tie):
Terrence Dickson of Bristol , Pennsylvania , was leaving a house he had just finished robbing by way of the garage. He was not able to get the garage door to go up since the automatic door opener was malfunctioning. He couldn't re-enter the house because the door connecting the house and garage locked when he pulled it shut. The family was on vacation, and Mr Dickson found himself locked in the garage for eight days. He subsisted on a case of Pepsi he found, and a large bag of dry dog food. He sued the homeowner's insurance claiming the situation caused him undue mental anguish.
The jury agreed, to the tune of $500,000. In my opinion this is so outrageous that it should have been 2nd Place !


4th Place :
Jerry Williams of Little Rock , Arkansas , was awarded $14,500. and medical expenses after being bitten on the buttocks by his next door neighbor's beagle. The beagle was on a chain in its owner's fenced yard. The a ward w as less than sought because the jury felt the dog might have been just a little provoked at the time by Mr. Will iams who had climbed over the fence into the yard and was shooting it repeatedly with a pellet gun.


3rd Place :
A Philadelphia restaurant was ordered to pay Amber Carson of Lancaster , Pennsylvania , $113,500. after she slipped on a soft drink and broke her coccyx (tailbone). The beverage was on the floor because Ms Carson had thrown it at her boyfriend 30 seconds earlier during an argument.


2ndPlace:
Kara Walton of Claymont , Delaware , successfully sued the owner of a night club in a neighboring city when she fell from the bathroom window to the floor and knocked out her two front teeth. This occurred while Ms Walton was trying t o snea k through the window in the ladies room to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge . She was awarded $12,000 and dental expenses.


1st Place :
This year's runaway winner was Mrs. Merv Grazinski of Oklahoma City , Oklahoma . Mrs. Grazinski purchased a brand new 32-foot Winnebago motor home. On her first trip home, (from an OU football game), having driven onto the freeway, she set the cruise control at 70 mph and calmly left the d river's seat to go into the back & make herself a sandwich. Not surprisingly, the RV left the freeway, crashed and overturned. Mrs.Grazinski sued Winnebago for not advising her in the owner's manual that she couldn't actually do this. The jury awarded her $1,750,000. plus a new motor home. The company actually changed their manual s on the basis of this suit, just in case there were any other complete morons around.

As you know, I'm probably the last person who would hold any country in Europe up as a shining examle of the right way to do anything. That being said, we should adopt the U.K.'s loser-pays system and reform our tort laws. The limeys got that one right...too bad they'll be under Islamic Sharia law before long.

Since Democrats cannot get elected by telling the truth about the Socialist agenda they intend to foist on the American people, they say whatever their pollsters tell them focus-groups well with voters. Since the Jack Abramoff scandal focus-grouped strongly with voters, "transparancy and honesty in government" was the platform that tricked ignorant Americans into voting Democrat in the mid-term elections. But as usual, as soon as Democrats had seized power, they wasted no time abandoning their election promises and pushed ahead foisting their Socialist treachery on the American people.

Seems the disastrous and uncontstitutional Fair Minimum Wage Act, passed hurredly this week and intended to lift all poor Americans(including all American territories) out of poverty, exempted American Samoa...I wonder why?

Turns out 75% of the Samoan workforce work as meat processors for StarKist, whose headquarters is guess where? San Francisco, Nancy Pelosi's district. A minimum wage increase would cost StarKist huge amounts of money in added labor costs. I calculate the chances of this being a coincidence roughly the same as the chances of Paris Hilton winning an Academy Award.

The point here is not that congressional representatives sometimes write legislation which unfairly benefits a big donor back home in their district...that happens all the time. The point is that Nancy Pelosi would have you believe that she, and the Democrats, care deeply for the plight of the less advantaged, and want to make the lives of all poor people just a little bit more comfortable by giving them more of their employers' money. As it turns out, she's in favor of poor people making more money, but only those poor people who don't work for one of her wealthiest constituents.

She doesn't give a rip about them! SanFranNan calculated that ignorant, government-schooled Americans don't even know that Samoa is an American territory and subject to our minimum wage laws. Nor would we care about the wages of some half-dressed natives on a remote south pacific island. Plus, she would endear herself to a potential huge donor by exempting them from the minimum wage hike.

The calculated treachery of Democrats knows no bounds. Look for at least two more years of the same thing. If congressional Republicans ever want to retake the majority, they had better hold her very publically accountable for shenanigans like this.

FAZUL ABDULLAH MOHAMMED: A 32-year-old senior al-Qaida suspect who has a $5 million bounty on his head for allegedly planning the 1998 attacks on the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed 225 people, [was killed yesterday when a U.S. military AC-130 gunship attacked suspected al-Qaida positions in a villiage suburb of Mogadishu, Somalia.] Fazul, who was born in the Comoros Islands, is also suspected of planning the nearly simultaneous car bombing of an Israeli-owned hotel and failed attempt to shoot down an Israeli airliner in Kenya in 2002. Thirteen people died in the hotel bombing. Fazul joined al-Qaida in Afghanistan and trained there with Osama bin Laden before becoming a teacher at a religious school in northern Kenya in the mid-1990s. He was captured by Kenyan police in 2002 for credit card fraud, but escaped after a day and fled to Somalia where authorities believe he has been hiding ever since.

We need a heck of a lot more of these type of operations around the world to show the terrorists that we cannot be toyed with, and that there is nowhere on Earth that they are safe from the long arm of the U.S. military.

UPDATE: Apparently this was a premature report. That bad guy was not killed after all. We did however, terminate some other less valuable targets in the bombing raid. Just kill them all and let God sort them out.

A cop's cop

I'll bet the smelly hippies in NoCal are glad to see this guy hitting the dusty trail...

ALAMEDA COUNTY - After more than 50 years in one career, its not uncommon to think about what one would have done differently.

Monday, on his last day on the job, Alameda County Sheriff Charles Plummer had his own thoughts. After a retirement ceremony that included helicopter flyovers, bagpipes and what seemed like thousands of handshakes, the former Berkeley and Hayward top cop sat in his office afterward and voiced that one regret.

"I wish I would have hit some people harder during the riots," said Plummer, speaking of the riots in Berkeley in the late-1960s. "I regret that."

Not having been hit harder by authoritarian figures is exactly what smelly hippies are missing in their miserable misguided lives. It's why they turn out to be unproductive critics of the establishment and miserable degenerates rather than well-adjusted achievers and happy, hygienic citizens.

If America had more cops in the sixties like Charles Plummer, we'd be better off today.

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Many people died when a U.S. gunship hunting al Qaeda suspects attacked a village in southern Somalia as part of a wide air offensive against fugitive Islamists, officials said on Tuesday.

In Washington's first overt military intervention in Somalia since a disastrous peacekeeping mission that ended in 1994, an AC-130 plane rained gunfire on the remote village of Hayo late on Monday, a senior government official said.

"There are so many dead bodies and animals in the village," the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters.

And I believe him! Take a look at the armament capabilities of the AC-130 Gunship. You would not want to be an Al-Qaeda puke with one of these flying around overhead...

I am speechless to hear that illegal aliens from Mexico who get away with breaking our immigration laws also have no respect for any of our other laws...

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Illegal immigrants who were caught but released in the United States may have been re-arrested as many as six times, Justice Department data released Monday indicates.

The findings by Justice Department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine are based on a sampling of 100 illegal immigrants arrested by local and state authorities in 2004, the latest complete data available. They show that 73 of the 100 immigrants were arrested, collectively, 429 times - ranging from traffic tickets to weapons and drug charges.

Fine's office said its audit could not conclude precisely how many of the 262,105 illegal immigrants charged with criminal histories that year had been re-arrested. "But if this data is indicative of the full population of 262,105 criminal histories, the rate at which released criminal aliens are re-arrested is extremely high," the audit noted.

And Bush tells us that they just want to come here in pursuit of a better life. Bush is wrong! What's happening isn't simply innocent, poor people looking for a better life in America. It's an illegal migration of Mexico's uneducated, criminal class into this country in order to rape our system of all they can get out of it. And our politicians refuse to do anything about it because the illegals are viewed as a potential future voting block.

That's why politicians are despicable, contemptable, wretches!

War on Terror (with a Twist)

This weekend proved to be an interesting time for the war in Iraq. It appears that, until now, our country's disagreements have been handled after the need was dealt with. Stop the presses, but the congress and the president are about to take sides on the issues of this war.

President Bush is supposed to outline a new military plan for the Middle East. This will include a short term deployment of up to 20,000 additional troops. It appears that the new military brass is in line with this thinking. All feel that there needs to be a force to quell the insurgencies within the Baghdad region. The thinking appears to include these additional forces, more local Sunni involvement in all aspects of protection and in government, as well as the eventual removal of our troops after sufficient training for the local replacements.

Alas, Nancy Pelosi and her Democratic friends are starting to squawk and to strut around suggesting that they will withhold funds for the war. The funding is not broken out by line item, so if financial support is removed or is limited, the current ground forces will be left to do a job without adequate support and supplies. If this happens, the '08 elections could take an early and ugly turn for the Democrats. I may be wrong, but I feel that if American soldiers are dying because of inadequate funding or because of party politics, the populace will revolt and swiftly deal with the perpetrators. Lets watch this play out starting with the Presidential speech this Wednesday. The P-Lo-crats could make for an interesting winter. We'll see. More on this as it develops.
