How many times since President Ford's death has his poor wife Betty had to publically grieve his passing? It seemed every time I changed the channel from a football game this weekend, Ford's coffin was lying in State somewhere and Betty and the family were once again asked to come in and mourn so the people could see it. First at Rancho Mirage, then at Ann Arbor, then in the capitol rotunda, then today in the Senate chamber, and finally back to Ann Arbor where he'll be buried at last.
After one such public grief viewing we saw Betty whisper something to the young man helping her around. She probably said, "I need a drink".
