Over at the Associated Press today, they present the kind of hard-hitting, investigative journalism that has made it the cornerstone of news gathering for decades. With Mideast turmoil, China exerting economic pressure, and domestic issues too numerous to count about to boil over, intrepid AP reporters are hot on the trail of another big scoop....how is Bo the first dog adapting to white house life? No, seriously!

WASHINGTON - He has torn through magazines and stray socks, even sunk his teeth into the president's gym shoes. Charm school taught him to sit, heel and shake a paw on command. He spent his first summer vacation on breezy Martha's Vineyard.

That's just a scoop of the poop on Bo's first few months as First Dog of the United States.

Is it just me, or does reading that from a serious news outlet make you feel like you've just stepped in a steaming pile of Bo's poo?

What explains the media's absurd obsession with Obama's stupid dog? Helpful hint: it's their absurd obsession with Obama himself that explains it. It fits their preconceived template of the perfect family, with the perfect daughters, the first lady with perfect, effortless style sense, advancing the perfect liberal agenda to fundamentally change America into the country it's supposed to be. It's the next Camelot for most of the press. What the Kennedy's left behind, the Obama's will move forward as they define the quintessential American, first family.

It matters not that Obama's agenda will quickly morph America into a second-rate, European-style nanny-State, flush with dependency and scarce on liberty. For America to have finally elected a suave black guy as President means that dissent must not be tolerated, or at the very least called racist, lest it impede The One's visionary molding of American in his own image. And the media should look away, ignoring the obvious wrongs with these ideas, instead focusing on the trivial, Obama minutiae like his stupid, mangy, flea-bitten, Portuguese water dog. After all, this is the land of Idol and Paris Hilton. Americans are shallower than bird-baths and dimmer than appliance bulbs, and they love pooch coverage. Any people that swoon every time Hollywood nitwits open their mouths, can be easily fooled into favoring any disaster of a health care/stimulus bill as long as they like personally, the Obama's and their dog.
