The Senate Finance Committee today is hearing proposals on how to pay for President Obama's proposed universal health care plan, which is expected to cost more than $1 trillion. Among the proposals, as Consumer Affairs reports: A three-cent tax on sodas as well as other sugary drinks, including energy and sports drinks like Gatorade. Diet sodas would be exempt.
Their lame argument about using the revenue to offset the costs of obesity caused by consumption of sugary sodas is a lie. They also promised to use the tobacco settlement revenue, which was in the hundreds of millions, to offset the costs of treating tobacco-related illnesses and to pay for smoking cessation programs but, less than 1% of that money was used for either. It all went into the pockets of skeevy trial lawyers and general funds of politicians to be used to buy votes in the next election. The proposed soda tax is just another money grab by craven politicians who'll use transparently phony concern for our health to tax us for our own good.
Is there any aspect of life in America that busy-body, government bureaucrats don't want to regulate? I swear!

This whole administration is based on nothing but lies, damned lies, and blatant stupidity.
"If your family earns less than $250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increased a single dime. I repeat: not one single dime."
Oh, of course they tried to spin it that he "meant" income taxes, but that is NOT what he said. Who smokes? Statistics show mostly people who earn less than $250,000 a year. Most likely the same for the sugar drinks.
Say what you mean and mean what you say - unless, of course, your *intention* is lying.
How do you know a Dummycrap is lying? His lips are moving.
This administration seems to live only in terms of today, never considering the implications of their decisions for tomorrow. Obama promised to close Club Gitmo until somebody asked him where all the vacationeers will be vacationing next. He also promised his base to release the other Abu Ghraib photos until somebody told him how that would endanger the troops and any American overseas. If the dispicable media were doing their job, The One's approval ratings would not be half of what he's enjoying currently.
Angie, check your yahoo e-mail.
