“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Native Americans join the ranks of the perpetually offended

Native Americans seem ironically proud to be defined by casino gambling where people by the thousands become addicted and destitute. Yet what plague them as a people is alcohol addiction and destitution...that and pretending to be offended by decades of school traditions that honor them....

DICKINSON, N.D. — North Dakota's Board of Higher Education has agreed to drop the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux nickname and Indian head logo, a move intended to resolve a decades-long campus dispute about whether the name demeans American Indians.

I think Native Americans have discovered the value in PC America of being an offended minority. Rather than confront directly their peoples' failure to assimilate, get educated, remain unaddicted, and maintain employment, tribal leaders tilt at the offensive-college-mascot windmill. Luckily for them there are plenty of smarmy, liberal bureaucrats who love stomping on any and all long-standing traditions, no matter how benign and reverential.

If it weren't for NCAA schools remembering and honoring the Native American traditions of pride, fighting spirit, and brotherhood, would anybody remember them for anything but gambling?

I remember a similar bit of nonsense in high school. Our HS logo was a Native American chief in headdress (hardly coincidence, our town name being of NA origin, the river running through the middle of it, the county it sits in, and nearly all the surrounding towns). After the dust settled, we still had a NA logo - a brave with a single feather.

WTH? Perhaps we were being discriminatory toward the "common" Indian?

Yeah, my school used to be the West Georgia Braves when I attended. Then the native Americans with whom my school had a close association and for whom it provided higher education benefits, decided they were offended after like 50 years of symbiosis with UWG. Now we are the West Georgia Wolves.....SNORE!!!!

Whats next animal rights activists pouting about slurs on gentle animals like "
Fighting Ardvaarks; The Thundering Herd might frighten children, so all parents need to boycott Marshall games. Then you have the array of just plain stupid nicknames (Blazers, Hilltoppers, Golden Hurricane - we really will not go there, Zips just to name a few). Do the intellecualists avoid those teams. By the way what is a Big Red, and why is it okay to be a blue devil (should chriatians and other colored devils be bothered by that ( except reds 'cause they got their own team)). I say that the Indians can jump in the lake if this offends them. Bring back all those great tribal names!!!!
