Regular reader, and fellow gun nut, Carlos wrote in with this question:
...I was looking at your music section and noticed that it's been 2 or 3 months since the last "Whats in Ed's music player?" If your music taste has changed any since then, you might consider doing another one so that we may ridicule you or put our own music tastes out for ridicule.
Right you are Carlos. I was jamming to some Smashing Pumpkins this morning and realized that it had been quite some time since the last What's in Ed's CD player?. So here it is...
Smashing Pumpkins
Sinatra's Greatist Hits
Dave Brubeck Jazz Collection
Uriah Heep, Best of
Herbie Hancock
Butthole Surfers (a little) they remind me of Primus which can be listened to only in small bits.
Kind of an odd mix but there it is.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with Dave Brubeck, Uriah Heep, or Herbie Hancock so I am unable to ridicule you for those Ed. Smashing Pumpkins is a favorite band of mine and I'm not so familiar with Butthole Surfers but I know i've heard them before because I mean c'mon, how do you forget a name like that right? As for myself I have been listening to a mix of The Who, Rush, Led Zeppelin, and The Foo Fighters. There's not alot to ridicule in that list so I apologize to those of you who are just looking for an oppurtunity to poke fun of someone else's taste of music like I was. I suppose someone could come up with a canadian joke about rush so if anyone has some good canadian jokes feel free to share.
Carlos, we have almost identical musical tastes. Add Pink Floyd, particularly the albums Meddle, Atom Heart Mother, and Animals, then add some Iron Maiden, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, and Frank Zappa, and you have my music almost exactly.
Ah yes kevin I do like Jimi and Pink Floyd, they just aren't my primary sources of music right now. Iron Maiden can be listened to in small bits enjoyably and honestly I have never heard of Jefferson Airplane. Frank Zappa is very talented however I dont find particular pleasure in listining to his music. Nothing to ridicule exactly except Zappa is just a tad bit crazy. Perhaps he trades saneness for genious musical talent and creativity?
Yes Zappa definitely does. As for Jefferson Airplane, you might better know them by their latter names, when they were terrible, Jefferson Starship or just Starship. They did White Rabbit and Somebody To Love. I am certain you have heard both.
Yes Kevin you are right about Somebody to Love but I'm afraid I am not familiar with White Rabbit. I feel that someone recently covered Somebody to Love but I can't quite put my finger on who. When was Jefferson Airplane at their popularity peak?
1966-1968 I believe.
Yeah someone must have done a cover since then because i've heard that song on alternative radio stations recently.
Haha yeah Jefferson Airplane is a psychedelic rock band from 1960's SanFran. They did some acid in their day. You definitely cannot consider them alternative haha.
I think every generation must like Pink Floyd.
My two older kids (10&13) are into it now. My 10 yo is homeschooled - he listens to Another Brick in the Wall all the time - he doesn't realize the irony ;-) - he just likes the music.
They also enjoy music more from my generation - Guns & Roses Metallica etc. Guitar Hero has a lot to do with their taste in music. When I was a teenager I though my parents had lousy tatse in music. My kids are digging though our old CD's and putting them on their ipods.
