“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

"Green".....the new "hippie"

There's a reason we live in the 21st Century....and disposable diapers is it....

Cloth diapers may sound old school, but actually they're making a comeback, especially here in Austin, where the green movement is going strong.

Berdina Madden's daughter wears cloth diapers, but when she first heard about them, she had her doubts.

“In the old days, you have this image of women changing disgusting diapers and bleaching them,” she said.

Maybe we have this image of disgusting dirty diapers because dirty diapers are disgusting! You'd think hippies would have gotten enough of the communal, earthy life-style back in the sixties, but I guess their drug-induced stupor keeps them from remembering it.

The green movement is the new smelly-hippie movement. Even incense and petchouli can't disguise the smell of this.

Hat tip Fark.

I am woman...feel sorry for me

As we know, the Clintons will stop at nothing in their quest for political power. Apparently this includes playing the gender card...

In an interview with ABC News' Cynthia McFadden to air on this evening's "Nightline," Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., says it's tougher for her to run as a woman than it is for her male opponent.

Asked why she thinks so many women may be feeling sorry for her, Clinton said, "I think a lot of women project their own feelings and their lives onto me, and they see how hard this is. It's hard. It's hard being a woman out there. It is obviously challenging with some of the things that are said that are not even personal to me so much as they are about women.

"And I think women just sort of shake their head," Clinton continued. "My friends do. They say, 'Oh, my gosh, this is so hard.' Well, it's supposed to be hard. I'm running for the hardest job in the world. No one has ever done this. No woman has ever won a presidential primary before I won New Hampshire. This is hard. And I don't expect any sympathy, I don't expect any kind of, you know, allowances or special privileges, because I knew what I was getting myself into.

"Every so often I just wish that it were a little more of an even playing field," she said, "but, you know, I play on whatever field is out there."

It hasn't been hard for Hillary. Decades ago, she hitched her wagon to Bill Clinton and with little or no effort at all, rode him all the way to where she is today, including her carpet-bagged Senate seat in New York. I realize the media template is that white men have it made in the world, like we have a secret society with hand-shakes and buried treasure and we always take care of each other to the exclusion of everybody else. Well, I'm sick of it! Everybody has obstacles on their chosen path and the point is to overcome them, not whine about them being there. Education, relentless dedication, and working harder than everybody else is what levels the playing field...correction, those things tip the playing field in your favor, regardless of your race or gender.

Hillary, who's had it easier than anybody other than Little Lord Fauntleroy, the boy who would be king....Al Gore, playing the race card is the mother of all absurdities. I think this is the death throe of a truly desperate candidate who sees the agony of defeat in her near future.

Nincompoopery!!!

The catch-all term "climate change" replaced the restrictive term "global warming", once clever environmentalists realized that the Earth was actually cooling, and that they couldn't scare everybody with dire warming predictions any more. Any thinking person over the age of 6 could tell you that the Sun plays the single biggest role in determining the temperature on Earth. Well this report ought to pretty much put the final nail in the coffin of the whole Earth in the lurch panic...

...Now there is word that all four major global temperature tracking outlets have released data showing that temperatures have dropped significantly over the last year. California meteorologist Anthony Watts says the amount of cooling ranges from 65-hundredths of a degree Centigrade to 75-hundreds of a degree.

That is said to be a value large enough to erase nearly all the global warming recorded over the past 100 years. It is reportedly the single fastest temperature change ever recorded — up or down.

Some scientists contend the cooling is the result of reduced solar activity — which they say is a larger driver of climate change than man-made greenhouse gases.

Before this, the whole environmentalists schtick was to scare you into letting them take control of your lives and choices. Now, how will Al Gore and his mindless followers in the druidical church of modern environmentalism plan to regulate the Sun?

Your guess is as good as mine but I've no doubt they'll try.

Prison overcrowding milestone

The Washington Post featured an article on an incarceration milestone that we've reached in America...

More than one in 100 adults Americans is in jail or prison, an all-time high that is costing state governments nearly $50 billion a year, in addition to more than $5 billion spent by the federal government, according to a report released today.

The ballooning prison population is largely the result of tougher state and federal sentencing imposed since the mid-1980s. Minorities have been hit particularly hard: One in nine black men age 20 to 34 is behind bars. For black women age 35 to 39, the figure is one in 100, compared with one in 355 white women in the same age group.

---Minorities have been hit particularly hard---

This passive aspect to statistic reporting caught my eye because the implication is that the minorities had absolutely nothing to do with their own incarceration rate. That's like saying drug addicts have been hit particularly by drug addiction. More men are in prison because they are the perps in a majority of crime. Likewise, monorities are overrepresented in prisons, not because white cops target blacks for arrest, as Al Sharpton would have you believe, but because that community commits most of the crimes.

How many times do I have to say it? Race has nothing to do with it, behaviour has everything to do with it.

To be fair, he also added this with which I happen to agree...

"On the other hand, there are large numbers of people behind bars who could be supervised in the community safely and effectively at a much lower cost -- while also paying taxes, paying restitution to their victims, and paying child support."

He's right but campaign-savvy politicians like to claim they are "tough on crime" every election cycle because it gets them votes, and if they don't pass legislation such as the ridiculous "3-strikes" law, their opponents will hold it against them in the next election.

Violent criminals and child molesters deserve whatever human-warehousing horrors are visited upon them in prison. I couldn't care less what happens to these scum. Small-time hoods, druggies, purse snatchers, flashers, peeping toms, gropers, conservative bloggers, etc...these people don't need to be in prison. Their upkeep costs society more than their crimes cost society and they aren't really a threat to anybody except liberals' self-esteem in the case of right-wing bloggers.

They could dump 30% of the prison population back onto the streets and violent crime would remain constant. That money could be better spent on prison rehab/training programs and parole monitoring for those let out. Or better yet, just cut our taxes by that much.

It's Ann Coulter Thursday!

Of course this week Ann eulogizes the great William F. Buckley by recounting some his famous exchanges with liberals over the years. Very entertaining for a eulogy. It makes me want to go out and buy a book or two by WFB. Go to Ann's web page and read the whole thing.

William F. Buckley--R.I.P.

There's some sad news today...

NEW YORK (AP) -- Author and conservative commentator William F. Buckley Jr. has died at age 82.

His assistant Linda Bridges says Buckley died Wednesday morning at his home in Stamford, Connecticut.

Buckley became famous for his intellectual political writings in his magazine, the National Review.

I've been reading William F. Buckley's columns for years. His insight and analysis played not a small role in shaping my political opinions today. He's considered the father of the traditional conservative movement. And I imagine he was horrified at what the republican party had become....big-spending, politically correct nanny-Staters. He's probably relieved to not have the burden of that frustration any more.

First the water, then the whiskey

As a native Georgian, this is particularly funny to me. Drought stricken Georgia, having run out of water options other than rain-dances, cloud seeding, and divining rods, has decided that the northern border with Tennessee was drawn 1 mile too far south and they want to change it back. You see, the huge Tennessee River flows within a half mile of the Georgia/Tenn. line in Chattanooga. Georgia intends to tap the river and build a water pipeline down to Atlanta. Chattanooga mayor Ron Littlefield says, "Not so fast" between chuckles. He then wrote this proclamation to make peace with Georgia....

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, it has come to pass that the heavens are shut up and a drought of Biblical proportions has been visited upon the Southern United States, and

WHEREAS, the parched and dry conditions have weighed heavily upon the State of Georgia and sorely afflicted those who inhabit the Great City of Atlanta, and

WHEREAS, the leaders of Georgia have assembled like the Children of Israel in the desert, grumbled among themselves and have begun to cast longing eyes toward the north, coveting their neighbor’s assets, and

WHEREAS, the lack of water has led some misguided souls to seek more potent refreshment or for other reasons has resulted in irrational and outrageous actions seeking to move a long established and peaceful boundary, and

WHEREAS, it is deemed better to light a candle than curse the darkness, and better to offer a cool, wet kiss of friendship rather than face a hot and angry legislator gone mad from thirst, and

WHEREAS, it is feared that if today they come for our river, tomorrow they might come for our Jack Daniels or George Dickel,

NOW THEREFORE, In the interest of brotherly love, peace, friendship, mutual prosperity, citywide self promotion, political grandstanding and all that,

I Ron Littlefield, Mayor of the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee,

Do hereby Proclaim that Wednesday, February 27, 2008 shall be known as

“Give Our Georgia Friends a Drink Day”

How humiliating for the Atlanta politicians to have the mayor of Chattanooga publically mock and ridicule them....I love it! It's their own fault for allowing absolutely unlimited growth in Atlanta for the past 40 years when they don't have the resources to support it. They have a single source of water...Lake Lanier, which, as you can see from the picture, is mostly dry. I guess Hotlanta won't necessarily remain the Southern Mecca it used to be.

Nanny State II

You know that partial list, I gave in the previous post, of things the government busy-bodies want to ban or control in your personal lives? Well, add rubber bull's testicles to that list.

A controversial Virginia lawmaker is trying to introduce new legislation to ban rubber testicles from being fitted to the back of trucks.

Lionel Spruill, known for his failed attempt in 2005 to ban baggy pants, says the motivation for his latest idea came from a constituent.

The man complained that he had been left speechless when his six-year-old daughter spotted a pair and asked him what they were.

Truck drivers who sport fake testicles on the back of their vehicles would risk a $250 fine under his proposal.

"They're offensive to some folks," said Mr Spruill, a Chesapeake Democrat. "It's OK to express yourself, but citizens have the right not to be subjected to something vulgar."

...citizens have the right not to be subjected to something vulgar.

No they don't. Where in the Constitution does it say that? People have a right to pursue happiness, and unless you can somehow construe that a brief, visual encounter with rubber testicles prevents that pursuit, then not only are you a sniveling, self-righteous do-gooder who deserves the mockery, ridicule, and scorn of all freedom-loving Americans, but you're a sponge on the American taxpayer.....I mean in worse ways than all politicians are sponges.

The nanny state endangers us all....for the greater good

Here's how insane the global-warming hoax has gotten. Al Gore would have you seriously endanger your family in order to fight a menace that is purely a figment of his imagination...

If a bulb breaks, get children and pets out of the room. Ventilate the room. Never use a vacuum -- even on a rug -- to clean up a compact fluorescent light. Instead, while wearing rubber gloves, use stiff paper such as index cards and tape to pick up pieces, then wipe the area with a wet wipe or damp paper towel. If there are young children or pregnant woman in the house, consider cutting out the piece of carpet where the bulb broke. Use a glass jar with a screw top to contain the shards and clean-up debris.

“We found some very high levels (of mercury), even after we tried a number of clean-up techniques," said Mark Hyland, Maine director of the Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management. During several of the experiments, for example, he said mercury in the air was more than 100 times levels considered safe even after a floor was cleaned. He said such levels would quickly decline if the room were ventilated and people followed their tips.

If trace amounts of mercury are rumored to be in the fish-sticks at the school cafeteria, hysterical parents demand the school close and the lunch-room decontaminated, yet in the name of environmentalism, they force you to install expensive, dangerous mercury vapor filled bulbs in your home. You see the hypocricy don't you? With liberals, it's not about the environment or even the health of our children. It's about them controlling every facet of our lives in every possible way. They'll try to take your cigarettes, your whole milk, your pleasure devices, your guns, your full-flush toilets, your CO2 producing gas grill, the Salvia in your garden, your incandescent bulbs, your junk food, your SUVs, the competitive sports your kids play, your right to spank your kid, and even the right to set your home thermostat how ever you like. Liberals want to control your life because you live it differently than they want you to, and they'll use the phony fear of global warming and the power of the federal government to enforce their idiotic way of life upon the rest of us. If that means exposing your children to toxic levels of mercury, that's a small price to pay....that is as long as it's your kids who're exposed and not theirs.

America slouches

Expectant mother Jamie Lynn Spears has passed her GED and is looking forward to college, reports People.com. The 16-year-old star of "Zoey 101" is said to have taken her high school equivalency exam about a month ago -- scoring well on reading comprehension.

Seriously? This passes for news now? Who gives a crap that a dumb, knocked-up, hillbilly tramp got her GED?

Terrorists, immigration, the economy, the election, gas prices, all continue to shape our lives in profound ways, yet one of the Spears hayseed clan doing the bare minimun to graduate high school makes the news. THIS is why America is in cultural decline and her future is in jeopardy. I'll bet more Americans can tell you that Jamie Lynn got a GED than can tell you 2 of the 4 remaining candidates running for president...(not including Nader and other sundry nutjobs).
