So this isn't a debate for or against capitol punishment, but if we're going to do it, what's the best way?
Electrocution, gas chamber, and lethal injection are all criticized as either too barbaric as it is sometimes painful and takes guys hours to die, too unreliable if performed incorrectly, too expensive, or all three.
Mississippi is thinking of bringing back the firing squad, like Utah has used up until recently as 2010.
Basically you give 5 proven marksmen rifles, four with live rounds and one with a blank. (The one blank provides what's known as the "diffusion of responsibility" and let's each marksman reasonably believe that he might not have fired the killing shot.)
You give the condemned person, restrained in a chair so he can't move, a hood and white shawl featuring a bright red heart over where his heart is as a high-visibility target. Then the shooters fire on command from 25 feet, or "can't miss", range. Death is immediate but it takes the doctor 30 seconds to walk in and confirm it so legally death takes 30 seconds.
There are insane citizens that support public hangings or the guillotine, and both do result in reliable, instantaneous death, but I doubt we'll be seeing those spectator events anywhere except Game of Thrones, which leaves us with the firing squad as the most humane, reliable, and cheap way to dispatch a dude who needs dispatching. IMHO.

Cali contemplates suicide
Stupid California liberals are poised to make their state the first with $15 minimum wage across the board.(Some suicidal cities have it, but no states currently do)
$15-MW is a win/win for liberals. Either they get to feel smug about "helping the poor" and receive lots of votes for it or, they enjoy the expanding welfare rolls as employers fire all but essential workers.......which also translates into democrat votes.
It's about votes, not helping the poor, always about votes.
iPhones, apparently now hackable
So the FBI finally got into the iPhone belonging to the dead San Bernardino shooter, with the help of a "third party", which probably means a pimply-faced, 17 year old, gamer who's forgotten more about hacking than the entire US government ever knew.
Here's how I imagine the converstation went down between Apple and the FBI:
FBI: Hey Apple, how's about helping us hack into your iPhone?
Apple: Um, no.
FBI: Hey Apple, we hacked your iPhone anyway so never mind.
Apple: Hey FBI, how's about telling us how you did that?
FBI: Um, no.
Apple: Um, no.

Apple: Hey FBI, how's about telling us how you did that?
FBI: Um, no.
Heh heh heh. I was on Apple's side, but that's still funny.

Obama is an Islamic sympathizer
Yesterday in his traditional Easter address, Pres. Obama once again claimed that ISIS violence is based on a "distorted interpretation of Islam".
Wrong. ISIS violence is based on the faithful interpretation of what's clearly stated in the Quran, and it's why so few of these mythical "moderate Muslims" we are told exist somewhere, are denouncing ISIS. They understand that their cult(religion) commands these things. And while they don't want to engage in the violence themselves, they sympathize with those who do.
What is it they say about the relative worth between pictures and words?

My new favorite beer
Our local Pig has 18 kegs tapped now featuring locally brewed beers and other crafts. At a tasting this week, we discovered Einstok Arctic Berry Ale. Not usually a fan of flavored beers, but this is so subtle that it's quite enjoyable and we filled our growler with it.
The Einstok brewery is 40 miles south of the Arctic Circle and they use water from glacial ice for the beer. They infuse this seasonal brew with local bilberries, which I think is just what they call blueberries in Iceland.
If you haven't tried it, try it. wink emoticon
Ed's first-world problem #1,284
The list of problems associated with living in a first-world country has been well documented. I've discovered a new one and it has a name......"port rage", that raving fury you get when you try in vain to locate and match up all the charging and data cables with the devices to which they belong.
I have cables belonging to iPhone, Kindle, iPhone charging stick, iHome speaker, Chromebook, ext. hard-drive, and one or two others. They're all black with USB on one end and very similar ports on the other.
I'm going to get one of these charging stations and leave all cables plugged into it rather than stuffing them in a drawer. Does anybody have a recommendation for an useful universal charging station like this one?
Exit question: (naive because I know the answer) but if the tech exists to have wireless charging like we have wireless data, why doesn't every device feature both with universal compatibility among them?

A telling meme
I don't mean to offend the fairer gender, but if this is true, then it 'splains a lot regarding why these four countries are currently overrun by hostile Muslims, and Russia is not.
If they weren't tagged as defense ministers, I'd have guessed they were the reunion committee for I Felta Thi sorority at Wellesley or Bryn Mawr.

A dumb-ass American in North Korea
Am I the only one who finds this hilarious?
Heh heh, this crybaby got busted trying to steal a propaganda banner from his hotel in North Korea, and after a 1-hour circus trial, got sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in the worst country in the whole world to do time in.
His embarrassed parents would probably be working harder to get him back if he had taken his medicine like a man instead of a blubbering milksop.
When we see him again in 2031, he'll weigh like 105, suffer from scurvy, and won't have many teeth left, but at least he'll be a little tougher.

Trevon learns a hard life lesson
Meet Trevon Johnson. He was killed by a homeowner while trying to rob her in her Miami home. He was remembered by a cousin as "having a future" and "he loved to learn".
Trevon died "learning" a very valuable lesson: sometimes homeowners don't appreciate being robbed.
Here's aspiring scholar Trevon Johnson before he learned that it's better to let the government rob citizens to pay for your upkeep rather than rob them yourself.

The discontented Syrian "refugees"
Heh heh heh, these dumb Syrian refugees are "threatening" to go home to Syria if their demands aren't met by German authorities. Apparently it's not enough to be given a warm bed to sleep in, food in your belly, and the peace and security with which a modern European country guarantees your life.
No, they want TV's, better food, and larger per Diem payments. So they are sleeping outside to protest these horrible conditions and will return to Syria if their demands aren't met. Good grief, she sounds like a garden-variety American democrat base voter. ;-)
Go home, you miserable, thankless tramp! Nobody owes you anything.

GOP contemplates the unthinkable
This weekend Mitt Romney wouldn't rule out another run for the presidency "if the party drafted him" at the convention. Apparently if Trump wins the nomination with delegates, there's talk of a self-mutiny by which the desperate party leaders will throw out his candidacy and "draft" Romney to run against Hillary instead.
If something that bizarre happens, the GOP will be a dead party. Voters by the millions will walk out on that feckless party.
I'm not a Trump supporter, but then I'm not in the "anybody but Trump" scorched-Earth group either. And I can't say that I'd show up to vote for Romney again if the GOP installs him as the nominee over the objections of the base.
I abandoned the GOP back in 2006-7 when the bank and car-company bailouts took place, I'm certainly not going out of my way to obediently pull the handle for a milquetoast schlub like Romney.

Democrats aren't generally morning people
I voted this morning at about 7:15 and already the GOP sign-in rolls had names for like 3-4 pages, but the democrat sign-in book had maybe 4 names total. I realize Alabama is a red state, but judging by how many "blue dot in a red state" stickers I see, there are plenty of democrats running around.
Then I realized where they are.......still in bed. When you vote for a living there's no reason to get up before like 11:00.
