Movie Review

Normally you'd think a movie with such comic talents as Ben Stiller, Jack Black, and Robert Downey would be hilarious.....well, you'd be wrong. I wasted $14 on tickets and another $17 on concessions for this bomb, Tropic Thunder. The plot barely made sense at times, several loose ends never got tied off, the gratuitous swearing, which would have embarassed Courtney Love, became annoying after like 5 minutes, but never subsided, appearances by Tom Cruise, Nick Nolte, and Matthew McConaughey were mildly entertaining but still failed to pull this turd out of the crapper. Seriously, I don't know why the media is raving about it. Probably for the same reasons I hated it...you see the media think inanity and vulgarity is art and they present it to you that way so you'll at least waste your money one time, even if you don't recommend it to you friends.

My recommendation? Spend your $31 on Chinese take-out, a bottle of wine, and some massage oil and enjoy a night at home with your spouse. Maybe, and I mean maybe, spend $4 on pay-per-view in six months. But whatever you do, avoid Tropic Thunder the way Paris Hilton avoids self control, morals, and class.

Ben Stiller is not a very funny guy. He is only every in comedies, yet none of those comedies are every very good. He is a good supporting actor, and can make funny stuff in that role, but he is never very funny. He is put into funny situations. Now his father, Jerry Stiller I believe, is hilarious.

Dodgeball was a terrifically funny movie. I guess I was expecting something more like that. There were certainly opportunities for more comedy and less vulgarity.

Ah the great dodgeball. I believe Ben Stiller could make a great major supporting roll in almost any comedy but is clearly not cut out to be the lead actor. Even in dodgeball he was not the main character but instead a support character with many appearences... as it should be. He is excellent for bits and pieces of comedy here and there but should not be the actor trying to give the movie a great story line with great acting.

I liked Meet the Parents...the first one. The second one was ruined by Babs and just poor acting by everyone else.
