Is guilt by association legitimate?
Unless you are an Al-Qaida operative living in a cave in Pakistan, by now no doubt you've seen the footage of Jeremaih Wright, Barack Obama's pastor for 20 years, railing against America, white people, CIA, Hillary, absurd conspiracy theories, you name it. Obama has come out recently and condemned the rantings and distanced himself from Rev. Wright. The question is...is this enough? Should Obama be held responsible for what Wright said, given that he's publically disavowed association with it?

Just try to find a liberal black politician who is not closely associated with someone who rails against white America. It is part of the Civil Rights Activist Handbook. You are not black-enough unless you do it too.
Right you are anon. It's been the hope of conservatives who're tired of the democrat strangle-hold on the black vote, that Obama would once and for all dispell the myth that blacks can't make it on their own merits in America. For blacks to finally come to this realization will destroy the democrats as a party. So you see the paradox of the Obama candidacy and why he should stay away from race politics. Democrats want to be seen as being "for the black man" yet that very support for this candidate might show blacks that they don't need the democrats to succeed. The contortions democrats are going through to deal with the Obama paradox are delightful to watch.
