Perhaps accounting would be a healthier career choice for this young man...
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Chris Simms went to the ground on one knee and leaned over clutching his midsection.
The battered Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback later had his spleen removed Sunday night and is out indefinitely after absorbing several punishing hits during a 26-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Maybe I'm wrong but don't you pretty much need your spleen? I mean it's not useless is it, like an appendix, or a tonsil, or Ray Nagin? When you start losing major organs, maybe you should think about doing something else for a living, or at least ask management for a bigger offensive line.

Isn't the spleen that thing that produces gastric enzymes, so like witout it,you cant digest food and you blow up and die.
Acutally I don't know so here's the Wikipedia description of the human spleen...
The spleen is a ductless, vertebrate gland that is closely associated with the circulatory system, where it functions in the destruction of old red blood cells in holding a reservoir of blood. It is regarded as one of the centres of activity of the reticuloendothelial system. Until recently, the purpose of the spleen was not known. It is increasingly recognized that its absence leads to a predisposition to certain infections.
Sounds useful to me. I'd rather have it than not have it.
