“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Socialist Party presidential candidate Norman Thomas

Abdul has his shorts in a bunch

Hyper-sensitive Muslims around the world, enraged by the Pope's quotation which associated Islam with violence, reacted with, you guessed it........violence!

I paraphrased this account from Christopher Hitchens over at Slate...

Ratzinger quoted from the 14th-century Byzantine Emperor Manuel II. This potentate supposedly once engaged in debate—the precise time and place is unknown—with an unnamed Persian. The subject was Christianity and Islam. The Byzantine asks the Persian to "show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached."

The Pope then editorialized thusly "to convince a reasonable soul, one does not need a strong arm, or weapons of any kind, or any other means of threatening a person with death."

So the purveyors of the religion of peace don't appreciate the insinuation by the Pope that Islam is a religion which, as practiced by millions of radicals around the world, advocates the violent conversion or subjugation of infidels. So to prove to the world that they are peace-loving, happy-go-lucky, pacifists, they murder a nun, and attack Christian churches in Gaza.

This is a repeat of the idiotic cartoon fiasco from a year ago. These radicals are peering in every nook and cranny for something to spark their rage. When will the world stop playing patty-cake with the terrorists and apologizing every time somebody says something that irritates them? Who cares what irritates them? They want to kill us whether or not they're irritated. Sadly, it's going to take another successful attack in this country to focus the minds of the appeasers on the Left, on the fact that this is a war between civilizations, and not a problem solved by throwing tax dollars, or dialogue, or appeasment, or diplomacy at it. This is a problem best solved by throwing ordinance, and lots of it.

I continue to be enraged by the car magnets. This requires "top rope" thinking and we are not there yet. Let's hope a unified American response is not beyond our kid-gloved reach.

Ed, glad you're back, I was starving.

Hello Ed and all,

There is no truth without discernment and taking this situation out of context will never solve this world's problems. The straw that breaks the camel's back always follows the results of earlier deeds.

The Pope's choice of words was brain dead, in my humble opinion, if he was seeking to spread peace. He could have appealed for cooler heads and humility from all sides using any other words, but instead he chose to quote Crusade era hypocrisy that was guaranteed to inflame Muslims. Now we see the backtracking and spinning that always follows the gaffes of those afraid of simply telling the truth.

More proof that religion is the opposite of truth, wisdom, and justice

The "infallible" Grand Inquisitor (the pot) sought to lecture Islam (the kettle) about spreading religion through dark deeds by quoting a Dark Ages text while the USA and Europe are in the midst of the Neo-Crusades. The irony and absurdity in this situation is amazing, to say the least. It evidences both the fallacy and fallibility of those who vainly and arrogantly pretend to serve the Creator.

Dear Pope, ever heard of Karma or the golden rule? Ever stop to remember how the Vatican and western nations became so rich and powerful over the centuries? Ever consider giving up your blood drenched wealth and earthly power to end the blatant hypocrisy of your vane, materialistic, and duplicitous empire? Ever think of forgoing your peacock's robes to walk the walk instead of simply talking the talk? Remember the "eye of the needle" and "log and mote in the eye" parables? Is this a demonstration of your infallibility, wisdom, or utter blindness? As another wise one once said; What goes around comes around!

The West has killed far more Muslims (and other dark skins) than they have killed westerners, yet our press and leaders can only see Muslim and "third world" desperation in the face of western military and economic dominance and oppression, (in the name of God and country, by the way), as sources of evil in this world.

Guess what guys and girls, war, violence, and injustice are evil, no matter what the excuse or cause or who is doing it to whom. Anyone who thinks the Creator would judge religion, war, or any other profiteering at the expense of others as wise or acceptable activities has a very big surprise in store.

Here is Wisdom!!
...and here too...

I think no matter what happens short of a complete catastrophe in terms of another terrorist attack, the Democrats will poo-poo any response to an attack for political reasons.

They don't have a cohesive, thoughtful response to offer the nation, leaving them with nothing but partisan sniping and empty criticism for criticism's sake.

Ironically, it's the intellectual wasteland and political servility that describes the Democrats that weakens the Republicans. With no real threat of a power change, there's nothing keeping the conservatives honest advancers of the agenda for which they were elected.

This weakness, I fear, will swing power like a pendulum back in favor of liberals as rank and file conservative voters abandon wishy washy, moderate Republicans at the polls.

Sadly, like an osterich sticking his head in the sand, the typical American thinks that wearing a flag lapel pin or hanging a support-the-troops car magnet is actually accomplishing something useful. It's not!

There's nothing wrong with patriotism but it has to be coupled with knowledge, recognition, and clarity.

Knowing who the enemy is and what his purpose is.
Recognizing that it is us who must act or there will be no US about which to be patriotic and,
Clear willingness, without reservation, to do what's necessary to defeat the enemy before he defeats us.
