When Obama tried to rally the Congressional Black Caucus yesterday, he had a string of words from which he dropped the ending "g", for emphasis. He is like a chameleon. He can adopt the dialect of his audience in order to falsely endear himself to them. But when the AP released a transcript of the speech, they included the dropped g's. Watch and see if you agree.....
When Obama speaks normally, I don't think he drops his g's like a southerner. When he speaks to black audiences though, he tends to adopt the persona of his idea of a black preacher and he talks to his audience the way he thinks they talk. Should the AP have spell-checked his pronunciation in the transcript or did he do that on purpose and therefor it should have been written as he said it?

It could be him just changing his demeanor in front if different audiences, or it might be that the G key when the TelePrompTer lines got written up was broken. The world may never know...
I can't recognize his put-on accent. It surely ain't Southern. Maybe southern Indonesia.
It's no much accent as rhythm and meter which is similar to traditional black preaching. Dropping his g's makes him sound familiar and homey. He doesn't do any of that when talking to rich white people at $30K/plate campaign dinners.
