Support for a Mellencamp bid is gathering momentum; a "Draft John Mellencamp For Senate" Facebook page has emerged with more than 200 members.
Mellencamp is no stranger to politics or to Washington. He asked John McCain to stop using his music during the 2008 presidential campaign. He performed at President Obama's inauguration and has played at the White House, most recently last week at a celebration in honor of the civil rights movement.
Maybe it's just that I'm a cynical jerk but I have a couple of problems with the deep analysis of this article from Foxnews of all places...
Wow, so when it's a celebrity loudmouth running for office, 200 members on a facebook page count as a groundswell of support?
And the analysis of John's political experience leaves no stone unturned as the author offers up concert appearances for Chairman Zero, a whiny complaint for McCain to stop using his songs at political events, and an appearance at a civil-rights commemoration as evidence of his political gravitas. C'mon, seriously?
Just like all celebrities and musicians, Mellencamp is little more than a highly paid jester. He exists to entertain us and nothing more. His role in the senate would be as a dancing monkey for Harry Reid to boss around and tell how to vote on issues that he can't understand. I think Indianans deserve more serious representation for the next six years than a flaky musician.

He would fit right in with Al Franken.
