Kick-off!!!

Well it's time for another college football season. The season officially started Thursday night but pretty much everybody plays on Saturday. Georgia plays Ok. State at 5:45 CST on ESPN or the Deuce I think. I'll try to post a few things between now and Tuesday as news happens so check in from time to time. Until then, consider this an open thread and discuss anything you like.

The Foo Fighters just released their new live album Skin and Bones, recorded over several concerts they did in L.A. recently. I thought it was too soon after In Your Honor for a new-music CD. Anyway Rolling Stone gave them a thumbs up.

Keira Knightley used to be pretty attractive....now, not so much. What is it with these Hollywood tarts who think that heroin-addict skinny looks good? I'm sorry but she absolutely does nothing for me. I've used swizzle sticks with more mass.

Indulging attention hounds

Is this really taxpayer money well spent?

(CBS/AP) TARRYTOWN, N.Y. Suicide prevention telephones have been activated on the approaches to one of the country's largest bridges in hopes that people intent on jumping to their deaths can be dissuaded by one last human voice.

More than 25 people have made fatal jumps from the Tappan Zee Bridge into the Hudson River in the past 10 years, the state Thruway Authority said.

The four phones -- two each on the Rockland and Westchester county sides -- provide direct links to the Lifeline suicide prevention hot line, which would connect callers to counselors at LifeNet or Covenant House, the authority said Tuesday. State troopers stationed in Tarrytown would be sent to the phones.

Apparently there are no walkways on the bridge and from what I've read, crazies just drive to the middle, stop their car in traffic and then don't jump, inconveniencing thousands of commuters for hours while they wait for the attention they crave. If one of them does decide to make the phone call, state troopers will have to race out to the scene to baby-sit the nutcases rather than protecting the rest of us by arresting actual criminals like drunk drivers, child molesters, and drug pushers.

Here's one of the taxpayer funded phones. Maybe they should stick cinder blocks and ropes there too so the jumpers who're serious can get on with it and not inconvenience everybody else.

The Sonoran Desert....now a landfill

I blogged on this atrocity before, but I thought it was worth a revisit. Here is a picture of the pristine Sonoran desert south of Tucson...well at least it was pristine and beautiful until the illegal alien invasion started. The poor, downtrodden, looking-for-a-better-life Mexicans who "just want to be American", as libs would have you believe, dump thousands of tons of garbage annually as they invade the country they supposedly love. If our government wasn't completely derelict in the performance of it's most basic duty, the defense of the country, this sort of thing would not be taking place.

Slow news day

Eco-tourists......please!

You knew this was bound to happen at some point but I didn't think I'd find it so amusing...

SAPPORO -- Eco-tourists on a whale-watching vessel, looking forward to observing the mighty creatures in their natural habitat, were instead greeted by the sight of a harpooned whale being dragged in by a Japanese whaling vessel on Friday.

Oooh, oooh! We'd better get some grief counselors over there right away so the Birkenstocks and granola crowd can adequately deal with the shock of witnessing the barbarity of whaling.

Another Bush dis-appointment

So Gonzo is leaving the Bush administration. Good! He's been a disaster, favoring illegal immigration over upholding the law, and claiming all kinds of priviledges when answering congressional oversight etc. So you must be wondering who might Bush nominate to be the next AG, none other than the human skeleton..Michael Chertoff. Another Bush yes-man who castigated conservatives as racists for opposing the abominable shamnesty bill. In addition, he threw up his hands after it's defeat and said that it was impossible to uphold the immigration laws.

With a year and a half left, the Bush administration could use a new face but they continue to stick with the good old friends Texas network...most of whom have been less than stellar. Can you say Harriet Meyers?

Dihimmitude rewards the terrorists

In case you live under a rock, didn't watch the news last week, or like most Americans....just don't feel like paying attention to the world around you, there was another cartoon kerfuffle over an Opus strip that runs in around 200 Sunday fish-wrappers around the country. Apparently many of the Sunday editors chose to not run the strip because it might inflame the delicate sensibilities of The Cult of the Perpetually Inflamed...i.e. Muslims. They feared a repeat of the violent demonstrations we witnessed in Denmark last year when thousands of not surprisingly unemployed Muslims feigned outrage and trashed the city, when a Danish paper published some images of Muhammed--apparently a no-no--who knew?

Here at TRR, we are unapologetic about publishing the cartoons to show that we are not submissive to the ridiculous demands of outraged, third-world, religious zealots.

My question is, why do the editors relish in every opportunity to ridicule Christianity and every other religion, but shamefully bow to the absurd demands of the people who hate us the most? By giving in, they reward the terrorists' insanity and encourage still more demands of our dihimmitude.
