“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Defining Americans

Not a day goes by without some mention of the war in Iraq. Rarely a day goes by without a verbal assault on this country and its people. I hope you enjoy the words to follow:
To Kill an American!!
You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.
This editorial response was taken from an Australian newspaper. This dentist lets everyone know and understand what an American is. At least this way they might know if one is found!
An American is English or French or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Navajo, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot or many other tribes known as native Americans. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Arab, Pakistani, or Afghan.
Americans are Christian, Jewish, Buddhists, Muslims, and Catholics. In fact, there are more Muslims in America then in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each chooses. An American is free to believe in no religion. For that he will only answer to God, not to the government or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.
An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The rot of which can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right to individual pursuit of happiness. American people are generous. This people have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their times of need. Never did they ask for anything in return. Look at Afghanistan. Years ago it was overrun by the Soviet army. Americans came with arms and supplies and aid to help the Afghan people win back their country.
The national symbol of America is the Statue of Liberty. It welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores the homeless, the tempest tossed. These are in fact the people that built America.
Many of this type of person were working in the Twin Towers when they were killed on September 11, 2001. Victims of the World Trade Center were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, races, first languages and backgrounds.
So - you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler tried. So did General Tojo and Stalin. Mao Tse-Tung did as well. Every other blood thirsty tyrant has as well. In doing so, however, you would be just killing yourself. Americans are not a particular people from a particular place, they are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit is an American.
I am not that eloquent, but am glad I can read and am glad that someone out there feels that it is important to be an American. I love this country despite its trials and tribulations. I believe firmly in differing points of view. I just hope and pray that some of the Middle Eastern peoples that are currnetly trying to do us in, will think twice and move into a peaceful time without war and death. I am proud to be an American and proud of this Australian dentist. Rage on !!

I'm a republican and proud of it, but I'm with Anonymous100% - to say we Americans 'never asked for anything in return' is just TOO stupid.

Well I firmly disagree with anonymous. Please answer what was asked for by the USA when Europe was rebuilt in the 40-50's after WW2. Please explain what was requested upon millions going to Somalia to feed starving people. Discuss how the millions spent in Russia had strings attached as the cold war ended. We await your reply.

- Ok, ok (wiping tears of laughter):

Political influence. Military bases. Weapon deals. Trade deals. Amnesty for criminal acts committed by US soldiers (yes, I'm aware of US soldiers that murdered civilians, raped a 14-year old girl and violated all laws of prisoner treatment in Iraq, was convicted - how fantastic...). And of course, access to energy and natural resources.

Shall I continue?

Yes, Anon, please continue. Sorry, I'm not understanding your point. Why should the US dish out billions of dollars in aid without any stipulations?

What about the money individual Americans donate on their own?

What does the soldier CONVICTED of a crime have to do with anything?

Regardless - Do you have a problem with the reward being offered to kill any American? Or just the dentist's inaccurate, unworthy defense of Americans?

It seems that you either cannot read or chose to ignore the question, anon. Tell the world who you are and answer direct questions as asked. Please do not sidestep to another issue to try and claify your point. Your point is well made, the US troops have done some bad things in the Middle East, but that does not take away from the question. Your retort about political influence, military bases, and weapons deals are unfounded and wrong. We gave a boat load of money to the Russian people. As of today, I cannot think of any new military bases in that area, we have received no weapons or sold them any weapons, and unless you count some of the extremely liberal folks in the US, we received zero in the political influence column. Somalia was strictly humanitarian. It ended badly with waring genocidal tribes being eliminated, but yet we asked for and got nothing - but a hard time. When Europe was rebuilt, it was done out of respect for the people and because of the attrocities they faced at the hands of Hitler, Musolini and the rest of the Nazi thugs. ( I know this first hand, because I fought in this war, and remained stationed there for a few years after the war ended). Again, no remuneration from any of the European countries. Do we have friends there because of this generosity, I even question that now. So, anon, either state your disagreement to the query posed or post a blog for all of the rest to snipe at. LT. Anyone who thinks that Americans aren't the most generous in the world is a moron. And sure we expect something in return for our generosity...we expect to not be attacked when we travel there. We expect mutually agreeable trade agreements. We expect to have influence in the region where we have assets. We expect the governments to use our aid honestly and for the purposes for which it was intended(this rarely happens). Basically we expect nothing more than your garden variety play-ground give and take...we help you out and when we need it, you help us out. I don't have a problem with that.

If it were up to me, we would help far fewer countries in need. Their leaders are corrupt, evil, degenerate thugs who use money seized from hard-working Americans to fund genocide, ethnic cleansing, and terrorism.

Sure we give a lot...most of it stupidly. But there are and should be stipulations that come with aid.
