Craig's List scammer had better get up earlier than that

So I've started making rustic furniture out of recycled pallets. You'd be amazed as I was, at the quality of wood some companies use for pallets. Anyway, I made this coffee table and listed it on Craig's List for $200. Some dude named Ander Joeson offered to buy it. He says to expect today a certified check for 10 times the amount and his request that I take my $200 and send the balance by Western Union to some address. Supposedly his secretary mistakenly made it out for too much.

I guess the scam is that I'm supposed to deposit the check into my personal account, then wire the $1800 to him before the check bounces. If there weren't people that stupid I guess they wouldn't be attempting to scam us, but seriously who falls for that?

  10. aj, reply to the emails and promise to send the money as soon as he sends you a check, then gather as much information as you can to turn in to the cops and to Craigslist. That's what I did, and I haven't heard from him since.

  11. Ed,
    Cool table
Yes, I am amazed at the wood used for lowly pallets
and CL scammers are common. I buy/sell on CL regularly and when I get "offers" like this I delete them

  12. Thanks Dave, I just sold this table to a local architect whose wife is an interior designer. I figure if the two of them like it, it can't suck, right?

  13. Hi Ed,

Ander Joseson (Real name could be Joe Anderson) contacted me to buy a dining room set. Offered me $50 over my asking price if I would take the ad down and promised to send a check by messenger right away. If you are in Missouri, where I am, you can report this online to the Missouri Attorney General's Office at https://www.consumer.ago.mo.gov/ If you are in another state, I'm sure every state has an Attorney General site. If he sends the check to me, that's where I'm going with it. Good luck! Larry
