Ipswich Middle School in Mass. is cancelling Academic Honors Night because some other kids who tried hard but were still too dumb to make A's, would get their feelings hurt by being excluded. So if everybody can't get a prize, then nobody can have a prize? Idiots!
I remember when my son was like 7 and we got a stupid baseball trophy for just fielding a rec. team(our record was maybe 5-9). He and half the other kids looked around like, "What the hell is this for? We were terrible." And the trophy meant nothing to him because it was given in recognition of nothing.
It's a harsh reality, but failure, shame, and exclusion are terrific motivators to succeed in the future.
