Cash-for-Clunkers....just another tax-payer funded hand out disguised as economic policy

A lot of Americans took advantage of the Cash-for-Clunkers program to the point that it ran out of a billion dollars in less than a week. So the government appropriated $2billion more of your money to extend the program but, is this what government should be doing with taxpayer money?

-Who says the auto companies aren't jacking up the prices like all stores do, just before they have a big sale?
-Don't be fooled when the Obama administration uses the phony sales statistics to claim that they alone saved the American auto industry when all they did was bribe people, using your money, into buying new cars they couldn't otherwise afford.
-Perhaps these people are driving clunkers because they can't afford new cars. So I'd like to see how many of these new-car owners default on their payments after 6 months. Obama and the media will hide those statistics.
-Did the government not learn a lesson about meddling in markets when they put people into mortgages who have no business committing to house payments....people who need to be renting, or if you understand the analogy, need to be driving a clunker and can't afford a new car?
-Finally, why is our tax money being used to pay for other peoples' cars? People should buy their own stupid cars.

I swear! To Obama and his cabal of socialists, there is no problem whether it's social or economic that can't be solved by the heavy hand of government intervention.

The thought police in the UK even tax grief

The once Great Britain descends further from idiotic nanny-State into a little shop of horrors...

A grieving mother in Britain was fined $173 for spending too long at her son's coffin before it was taken away for cremation.

Terrie Rouse, 32, said her grief turned to shock when officials told her she had taken too long to say goodbye, The Daily Mail reported.

"The vicar had asked if I would like to spend a bit more time saying goodbye," she said. "I sat by the coffin for 10 minutes, telling my son how much we loved him and begging him not to be scared."

Are there so many funerals in the UK that they have to keep a tight schedule such that you can't grieve for longer than 30minutes? And more preposterously, there's a fine for exceeding your allotted time limit....unbelievable! It's bad enough that the UK government controls and monitors every part of life there but, now they're taking control of the dead too.

Once the imperial nanny-State gets a toe-hold and isn't rightly put down by public resistance, it creeps insidiously into every facet of life no matter how private. We in the US could learn a lesson from our Mother Country that is but a shadow of her former self.

The Children’s Secretary set out £400million plans to put 20,000 problem families under 24-hour CCTV super-vision in their own homes.

They will be monitored to ensure that children attend school, go to bed on time and eat proper meals.

Private security guards will also be sent round to carry out home checks.

How long before they expand the justification for home-monitoring to include enforcement of recycling, limiting anti-Muslim "hate-speech", restricting politically-incorrect gatherings, punishing divisive talk regarding the government, etc?

This is precisely what Orwell predicted for London in "1984". It's coming to pass. How sad and pathetic that the people who established the British Empire have let their once-great country descend into this!

Islamic women should know their place

Here's the latest outrage from the Religion of Peace....

KHARTOUM, Sudan — A Sudanese female journalist facing 40 lashes for wearing trousers in public in violation of the country's strict Islamic laws told a packed Khartoum courtroom Wednesday she is resigning from a U.N. job that grants her immunity so she can challenge the law on women's public dress code.

Lubna Hussein was among 13 women arrested July 3 in a raid by members of the public order police force on a popular Khartoum cafe for wearing trousers, considered indecent by the strict interpretation of Islamic law adopted by Sudan's Islamic regime. All but three of the women were flogged at a police station two days later.

Flogged for wearing pants. It would be comical if flogging didn't hurt so much. Seriously, if Islam, as it's practiced under Sharia, is not the most barbaric cult of backward, third-world savages, I don't know what is.

Obama lied.....promises died

Wavering on an emphatic promise he made in the spring, top White House economic adviser Lawrence H. Summers would not rule out middle-class tax increases Sunday as a way for the Obama administration to pay for a sweeping health care plan.

The statement, which was echoed by Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner on Sunday's talk shows, pries open a door to the kinds of broad tax increases that Mr. Obama opposed in his campaign and that he and his advisers have ruled out since taking office in January.

What a bunch of braying jack-asses Obama-administration guys are! Obama got elected largely because he promised middle-class idiots that they can have their cake and eat it too because, the evil rich will be paying for everything. Turns out the economic realities aren't so cut and dried. You cannot deliver free, universal health care to a country of 300million on the backs of 1.5million rich people, even if you took every penny they earned.

Obama knew this when he lied about it in the campaign but, to liberals, the seizure of power is the end that justifies whatever means are necessary.

How's that hopeychange working out for you now, middle-class, democrat morons? Every thing's not so great when it's your back Obama is riding to pay for everything, is it? IDIOTS!!!

Punishing achievement and success

Barack Obama complains regularly about how the Constitution doesn't adequately address the issue of "redistributive justice", meaning there's not enough money taken away from people who've earned it, to be given to derelicts who haven't. Well, I beg to differ Mr. President.....

Newly released data from the IRS clearly debunks the conventional Beltway rhetoric that the "rich" are not paying their fair share of taxes.

Indeed, the IRS data shows that in 2007—the most recent data available—the top 1 percent of taxpayers paid 40.4 percent of the total income taxes collected by the federal government.

Remarkably, the share of the tax burden borne by the top 1 percent now exceeds the share paid by the bottom 95 percent of taxpayers combined. In 2007, the bottom 95 percent paid 39.4 percent of the income tax burden. This is down from the 58 percent of the total income tax burden they paid twenty years ago.

To put this in perspective, the top 1 percent is comprised of just 1.4 million taxpayers and they pay a larger share of the income tax burden now than the bottom 134 million taxpayers combined.

You cannot continue to ratchet up punishment on the successful in order to reward those who've failed. Liberals have demonized and taxed the achievers in America to the point that they'll just stop achieving, or go somewhere their efforts are appreciated. Why continue to earn, provide, and succeed when your government hates you and punishes you for it? Margaret Thatcher said it best, "Socialism never works because eventually you run out of other peoples' money."

Wealth redistribution in this country is outrageous already and Obama wants to push it into the realm of the absurd.

Your tax dollars funding porn.....now that's a "stimulus" bill!

I enjoy classical music and going to museums to view the art whether it's modern, old-school, or whatever but, should the federal government be taking taxpayer money to underwrite artists or the presentation of arts if any kind at the local level? I say no!

The National Endowment for the Arts may be spending some of the money it received from the Recovery and Reinvestment Act to fund nude simulated-sex dances, Saturday night "pervert" revues and the airing of pornographic horror films at art houses in San Francisco.

The NEA was given $80 million of the government's $787 billion economic stimulus bill to spread around to needy artists nationwide, and most of the money is being spent to help preserve jobs in museums, orchestras, theaters and dance troupes that have been hit hard by the recession.

Why should money that's taken from me be used to fund any artist, much less "art" by soulless deviants like Robert Mapplethorpe or vintage porn revival like Thundercrack?

"But Ed", you whine, "what about the symphony orchestras? Surely you can't object to federal tax money funding that?"

Why yes, as a matter of fact I can. If federal money is used by the NEA to fund local orchestras and ballet troupes, then to be fair, they can take money from me to fund "porn art" in San Francisco. I'd rather no art be funded at the federal level than have any body's tax money go to whatever nonsense a smarmy bureaucrat with no oversight at the NEA feels like funding. Federal funding of the National Ballet, National Museums, etc are fine but, we don't need a bloated bureaucracy to manage them. If I could cut one bureaucracy out of the government, it would be the NEA.

Swimmers at a council pool have been banned from doing lengths for health and safety reasons.
They have been told they may only swim across the width of the pool as it makes it easier for lifeguards to ensure their safety.

I guess we can forget about England's Olympic swim team in 2012 being able to compete in the big-boy pool.

With infantile obtuseness, Dan Rather laments the decline of the mainstream media and pleads with his personal lord and savior Obama, for a bailout...

Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather called on President Barack Obama to form a White House commission to help save the press Tuesday night in an impassioned speech at the Aspen Institute.

“I personally encourage the president to establish a White House commission on public media,” the legendary newsman said.

Such a commission on media reform, Rather said, ought to make recommendations on saving journalism jobs and creating new business models to keep news organizations alive.

At stake, he argued, is the very survival of American democracy.

He's right that the republic is at stake but, the answer to saving the dinosaur media is simple...stop with the advocacy reporting, leg tingling, and heavy breathing whenever a liberal speaks and report the news in an even handed manner, and Americans will start consuming your product again. The news business is like any other private industry, you compete for consumers or you go out of business. The main-stream media decided to choose sides in their reporting decades ago and consumers of news quit reading their liberal propaganda. Now they want money taken from the same people who don't consume their news to bail them out of insolvency...incredible!

It is hilariously ironic that Dan himself gave us what is perhaps the worst example of advocacy journalism when he reported as fact, Bush's phony National Guard record story in the lead up to the '04 election. He wanted badly to destroy Bush and help get Kerry elected. Is this reporting the news, or becoming the news, Dan? I would trust a blogger in his PJ's to deliver fairly-reported news and analysis sooner than I would trust any of the three network anchors.

This image of Dan Rather snuggling up to Fidel Castro is precisely why nobody in the mainstream media can be trusted to deliver the news fairly. They long ago abandoned any pretense of objectivity and became liberal cheerleaders and in effect, the propaganda wing for the democrat party. This is why they are going out of business and I couldn't care less!
