“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Socialist Party presidential candidate Norman Thomas

Esteemed former VP, or shameless huckster?

Apparently Al Gore's book sales are slipping so he sought out the only audience stupid enough to listen to his idiotic global warming bleatings...

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore warned hundreds of U.N. diplomats and staff on Thursday evening about the perils of climate change, claiming: Cigarette smoking is a "significant contributor to global warming!"

Gore, who was introduced by Secretary-General Kofi Annan, said the world faces a "full-scale climate emergency that threatens the future of civilization on earth."

Gore showed computer-generated projections of ocean water rushing in to submerge the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, parts of China, India and other nations, should ice shelves in Antarctica or Greenland melt and slip into the sea.

Then, Gore had his staff open a stack of cardboard boxes to begin selling his new book, "An Inconvenient Truth, The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It," $19.95, to the U.N. diplomats.

First, forgive me if I'm wrong but Gore's dire, breathless warning about melting ice caps is crap! All the data I've seen lately show that the ice at the southern pole is actually thickening, and the oceans are in a slight cooling trend. As for the Arctic ice: it is frozen water, therefor, like ice in a glass of water, it is floating on the Arcitc ocean. Ice floating in water displaces an amount of water equal to it's own weight already, so if it melts, the overall level of the water remains the same.

Example: The USS Cole displaces 1,090 tons, the USS Nimitz displaces 104,000 tons, and judging from the size of Al's head alone, he displaces no less than 0.15 tons.

Second, shouldn't Gore be lecturing the Chinese and Europeans who both adore smoking, about its make-believe dangers to the environment?

Third, and I loved this part, Gore was just trying to scare everybody into buying his stupid, fictional book by telling them their cities were in peril. I wonder what the sales were for the evening.

Bush hits it out of the park.......'bout time

Finally George Bush stopped playing nice with the Democrats yesterday...

WASHINGTON — President Bush fired a shot across the bow of the Democratic Party Thursday, saying "the party of FDR... has become the party of cut and run."

In his most direct attack this election season, Bush flatly charged that Democrats are incapable of effectively fighting the War on Terror.

"The stakes in this war are high and so are the stakes this November. Americans face a choice between two parties with different attitudes on this War on Terror," he told an audience in Birmingham at a Republican fundraiser for Alabama Gov. Bob Riley.

"Five years after 9/11, the worst attack on the American homeland in history, the Democrats offer nothing but criticism and obstruction and endless second-guessing. The party of FDR, the party of Harry Truman has become the party of cut and run," Bush said.

I applaud Bush for taking the gloves off with the Democrats regarding national security. He's absolutely right in couching the November elections in terms of terrorism and which Party can be trusted to keep Americans safe, and which one cannot. He unequivocally drew the electoral battle lines in black and white by naming the Democrats and saying exactly what's wrong with them on security. It is a master stroke to force the Democrats into arguing a case that they don't have...a national security plan. You may not agree with everything Bush has done since 9/11, I certainly do not, but at least he's taking decisive action. And...there hasn't been an attack, though several attempted, since.

So, as a Democrat, you don't like the Iraq invasion, you think that terrorism is a law-enforcement matter, you believe that dialogue, negotiation, and massive US aid will get the terrorists to like us, you believe Ahmadinejad when he says Jews are decended from pigs and monkeys, you support Iran and North Korea's pursuit of "peaceful" nuclear power, you believe the withholding of after-dinner lolli-pops from Gitmo detainees equals torture, and you have one of those blue-dot-in-a-red-state stickers on your VW Beetle....good for you!

Regardless of your blind, seething hatred of America and George Bush, what is the Democratic plan for dealing with terrorists who would kill us all if given half a chance?

mindnumbing idiocy

This is maybe the stupidest thing I've ever seen...

It's never too long before the latest craze to sweep America makes its way to the UK but most would wish this one really hadn't.
Celebrity wigs designed for babies up to nine months old and are set to hit the market, to the outrage of children's charities. There's a Bob Marley style dreadlock wig, a Samuel L Jackson afro as seen in movie Pulp Fiction and a Donald Trump comb-over - perhaps for that mature look.

For the girls there's flowing pink locks based on singer Lil' Kim.

But Michelle Elliott of Kidscape said as well as unnecessary the wigs could be dangerous.
"This is ridiculous. Any parent who buys one of these wigs for their child needs their head examined."

Maybe I can see it for Halloween, but seriously, what moron dresses up a 9 month old for Halloween? These kids will probably grow up to hate their parents for their endless stupidity.

When good animals go bad

OK, take the kid out of this story and it becomes the funniest thing I've read all week...

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. -- An aggressive squirrel pounced on a 4-year-old boy in an attack last week in Cuesta Park in Mountain View, Calif.

The attack happened as the boy's mother unwrapped a muffin during a picnic.

The attack is not the first one reported at the park. Mountain View Community Services Director David Muela said that as many as six people have been bitten or scratched by squirrels since May, and that the attacks have become more ferocious in the last month.

In response to attacks, the city of Mountain View has announced it plans to start trapping and killing the aggressive tree squirrels, but in a humane way.

Let's see...
Dumb California animal rights activists playing in the park = good
Angry, wild squirrels attacking innocent children in the park = bad
Angry, wild squirrels attacking dumb California animal rights activists playing in the park = hilarious!

I think I'll pull for the squirrels here.

parent volunteerism...it comes with the territory

Well, I'm off to my kid's school to serve as a time-keeper at the finish line of his cross-country meet. Like most youth sports programs, the parents do most of the work so the coaches can coach. It's cool but cross-country is not exactly a spectator sport. They take off into the woods and neighborhoods and you don't see them for 15 minutes, then there's this rush of excitement as you wait to see your kid in the pack as they near the finish...then it's over. Oh well, he loves to run, so as long as they're still handing out track scholarships for college I'm down with it.

The Religion of Peace strikes.....again

Are you getting as tired of these hysterical Muslims rioting just for the sake of rioting, as I am?

Third Night of Ramadan Rioting in Capital of Europe
From the desk of Paul Belien on Wed, 2006-09-27 11:32

It looks as if immigrants youths want to turn nightly rioting during the Islamic holy month of ramadan into an annual tradition. Around 8:30pm last night violence erupted again in Brussels, the capital of Europe. The riots centered on the Brussels Marollen quarter and the area near the Midi Train Station, where the international trains from London and Paris arrive. Youths threw stones at passing people and cars, windows of parked cars were smashed, bus shelters were demolished, cars were set ablaze, a youth club was arsoned and a shop was looted. Two molotov cocktails were thrown into St.Peter’s hospital, one of the main hospitals of central Brussels. The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fires at the hospital, but youths managed to steal the keys of the fire engine.

Every night of violence and mayem that goes by unpunished emboldens these worthless thugs. The message is that rioting works...that they can get away with property destruction and personal attacks. You don't negotiate or try to reason with people like this...you crush them mercilessly and without remorse. Sadly, the Euro-weenies don't have the guts.

the right move for the right reason

7-Eleven just moved to the top of my convenience store must-visit list...

Convenience store operator 7-Eleven Inc. is dropping Venezuela-backed Citgo as its gasoline supplier at more than 2,100 locations and switching to its own brand of fuel.
The retailer said Wednesday it will purchase fuel from several distributors, including Tower Energy Group of Torrance, Calif., Sinclair Oil of Salt Lake City, and Houston-based Frontier Oil Corp.

A spokeswoman for Dallas-based 7-Eleven said its 20-year contract with Citgo Petroleum Corp. ends next week. About 2,100 of 7-Eleven's 5,300 U.S. stores sell gasoline.

Citgo is a Houston-based subsidiary of Venezuela's state-owned oil company, and the foreign parent became a public-relations issue for 7- Eleven because of comments by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

Chavez has called President George W. Bush the devil and an alcoholic. The U.S. government has warned that Chavez is a destabilizing force in Latin America.

7-Eleven spokesman Margaret Chabris said that, "Regardless of politics, we sympathize with many Americans' concern over derogatory comments about our country and its leadership recently made by Venezuela's president Hugo Chavez."

Good for 7-Eleven. I was a fan back when they sponsored American cycling, and now I'll even go out of my way to buy fountain Diet Cokes, Slim-Jims, and Gatorade there.

Dumb celebrity of the week

In terms of the economic impact alone, this may rank as one of the all-time stupidest statements from an entertainer...and there have been many...

Pop star Beyonce Knowles has sparked controversy by saying she only makes records for black people.

Since the Deja Vu singer made the astonishing statement sales of her new album, B'Day, have fallen by 70 per cent in the US.

Beyonce, 25, said in an interview with Blender magazine: "I make black records. I write records like I speak, and I don't try to change my songs so everyone else likes them."

Did she learn nothing from the Dixie Chicks, who since their idiotic remarks about George Bush, couldn't sell out a concert if they performed naked?

These entertainers crack me up thinking that they can say the stupidest things and the public will continue like lemmings over a cliff, buying their products.

Watch, now she'll come out with a whining statement about how fans refusing to buy her stupid CD's amounts to censorship, or something equally moronic about being taken out of context.

Trust me...it's not about public health

I'm getting sick and tired of government busy-bodies meddling in the free market under the guise of public health...especially when there's something much more sinister afoot...

NEW YORK - Three years after the city banned smoking in restaurants, health officials are talking about prohibiting something they say is almost as bad: artificial trans fatty acids.
The city health department unveiled a proposal Tuesday that would bar cooks at any of the city’s 24,600 food service establishments from using ingredients that contain the artery-clogging substance, commonly listed on food labels as partially hydrogenated oil.

Look, I'm all in favor of mandatory truth-in-labelling laws that apply to the food industry. Otherwise consumers cannot make informed decisions about what they are eating and feeding their families. But as long as the ingredients are clearly stated, shouldn't this be a personal choice issue rather than a public health issue? The free market can make the decision about trans fats very efficiently and quickly, much easier than the government can. If people don't want to eat food prepared with trans fats at a particular eatery, they will eat elsewhere. That economic pressure will compel that restaurant owner to offer foods not prepared with trans fats, or he will risk losing business. Seriously, it's that simple...as are most things that are subject to the pressures of the free market.

It's already happening as food providers sense a change in market pressures from consumers concerned about fat intake...

A few companies have moved to eliminate trans fats on their own.
Wendy’s announced in August that it had switched to a new cooking oil that contains no trans fatty acids. Crisco now sells a shortening that contains zero trans fats. Frito-Lay removed trans fats from its Doritos and Cheetos. Kraft’s took trans fats out of Oreos.
McDonald’s began using a trans fat-free cooking oil in Denmark after that country banned artificial trans fats in processed food, but it has yet to do so in the United States.

See? We don't need the government meddlers toying with the market. It's just another infuriating example of their intrusion into the lives of law-abiding Americans under the pretense of looking out for our health when it's really about something different entirely.

My prediction: There will not be a complete ban on trans fats. Instead there will be a government tax on the use of trans fats. The more trans fats you use at your restaurant, the higher tax you will owe to your benevolent, loving government. The lying, hand-wringing bureaucrats will assure us that the tax will punish the trans-fat abusers and help offset the cost of healthcare for heart patients. What they won't tell you is that the trans fat tax money, just like the tobacco settlement money, will go into the congressional general fund to be spent buying votes for incumbents. Not a penny will be spent on heart health any more than a penny of tobacco money was spent on prevention programs. WAKE UP ----IT'S JUST ANOTHER MONEY GRAB!!!

I saw this coming years ago. The government leeches got everything they could out of the tobacco companies, they have taxed the petroleum industry at criminal levels, and now they're wondering whose treasure they can raid now. WalMart is up next, but for now it's fast food.

Here's how it will go down...it's already started: They'll demonize the fast food industry as evil, profit-mongering, white men who got undeservedly rich by poisoning ordinary, working families with trans fats. Stupid, idiot Americans will dutifully nod like morons as the government seizes fast-food profits in the name of public health. What brain-dead, reality-TV-addicted, government school "educated" Americans don't realize is that their BigMac will cost an additional quarter from now on, and it's them who will be paying the fat tax...not McDonald's. The federal government regularly uses this lying scheme to take more and more of our money away from us and we stand there like total, stupid morons, nodding like bobble-head dolls, and then thank the government for taking care of us as we willingly hand over our wallets. WAKE UP!!!

I give because I'm a giver

I just got back from donating blood. Every time I go they give away more stuff. This time I got a cool T-shirt(they're not always cool), an ARC visor cd holder, and they let me keep the squishy ball you have to squeeze while they drain you. And that doesn't even include the killer selection of snacks and drinks available when you're done.

If you've gone through the process of donating blood lately you'll know what I'm talking about when I say that borrowing money for a house loan was less trouble. It occurred to me that the current shortage of blood in the U.S. is not because Amercans are self-centered and don't care about others until they need something themselves(that may very well be true, but not about blood donation), it's because the exclusion criteria are so sweeping that hardly anybody qualifies to donate. I realize that since AIDS, the ARC has to be very careful about what blood they send to hospitals. I remember donating blood prior to the 80's and they didn't screen for all this other stuff and there was plenty of blood. I understand about AIDS but why be so exclusionary about things that have always been around, even before AIDS? Were these risks worth taking back then but not now? Why? Could it be a combination of an ignorance-based, public, irrational fear of disease risk and a very rational fear of law suits by lawyers like John Edwards?

My wife and I were banished for a year from donating after our spring break trip to Playa del Carmen, Mexico, because there is a slight malaria risk there. I listened to the list of countries they ask you if you been to in the last 10 years and it's all the places Americans like to go. Seriously, the snacks and gifts are excellent, now if they would just relax the exclusion criteria, test the blood, and reform the tort laws, they would have lots more donors I would bet.
