“The American people will never knowingly adopt Socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the Socialist program, until one day America will be a Socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

Socialist Party presidential candidate Norman Thomas

Oh no, not the Breck Girl again!

Borrowed from the Des Moines Register...

A new Iowa Poll conducted for The Des Moines Register shows that Edwards, the runner-up in the Iowa Democratic caucuses two years ago and a frequent visitor to the state since then, is the choice of 30 percent of Iowans who say they are likely to take part in the January 2008 caucuses.

U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York follows on Edwards' heels with 26 percent in the Iowa Poll.

How unpopular do you have to be with the kooky-Left base to come in second to the Breck Girl, or as some call him, the Silky Pony? Admittedly, Edwards has been spending a lot of time in Iowa just to make a good showing in these early season straw polls and Hillary hasn't, but c'mon, Hillary is the anointed one.

What this shows is that despite Hillary's enormous amounts of cash, her previous popularity with Left-leaning voters, and her transparent attempt of late to portray herself as a centrist, the extreme Left base is not happy with her.( You know you're in trouble as a Liberal when nutcase Cindy Sheehan shuns you as too conservative)

I predict Hillary will have a problem come '08 when her centrist feint will have worn thin with the lib faithful, she's been around too long as an establishment politician to garner wide support among the nutty Liberal base, and there are other Democrats, maybe a governor or two, who appeal more to the rank and file Dem voters as an outsider who promises to "shake things up" in Washington.

The Dem base is as tired of losing elections as a substitute teacher is of getting hit in the back of the head with spit-balls, and an old-school, establishment candidate is not going to be able to get the base behind him/her. By '08, Hillary will have been on the national scene for so long it'll be like trying to get excited about a Kennedy, Dukakis, or Hart candidacy. Only the west coasters and the snooty north eastern libs will be jazzed about her running...and she can forget about wining in fly-over country.

The Breck Girl, on the other hand, has been out of establishment politics for a couple of years and has become fairly popular among putative Dem voters. (I would love to have the opportunity to rip his "two Americas" class-warfare platform to shreds) That being said, I think all John Edwards really has going for him is his looks and saccharine southern accent.

Edwards may be in the lead right now but there's two more years to go and once all the candidates descend on Iowa, he will get swallowed up by the pack like the pelaton swallows up the early break-away riders in the Tour de France.

Good riddance!

Borrowed from My Way News...

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi lived for 52 minutes after a U.S. warplane bombed his hideout northeast of Baghdad, and he died of extensive internal injuries consistent with those caused by a bomb blast, the U.S. military said Monday.

1000lbs of laser-guided, precision, American-made ordinance tend to do that to a fella. I'm surprised he lived for 5 seconds much less 52 minutes. He probably used that woman and child as a sheild from the blast....worthless coward.

I wonder how he's enjoying "Paradise" right about now?

You'd think Liberals would learn

I grabbed this off WorldNetDaily.com...

Commentator Ann Coulter's incendiary words about outspoken 9/11 widows have led two state lawmakers to calls for a boycott of her book in the widows' home state of New Jersey.

Assemblywomen Joan M. Quigley, D-Hudson, and Linda Stender, D-Union, on Thursday called on New Jerseyans to stop buying the book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism,'' and for retailers in the state to stop selling it.

How many time have we seen a group of people getting all ginned up over the release of a controversial movie or book? All they are doing by calling for a boycott is drawing lots of attention to that thing where there would otherwise have been little.

That was the case for Mel Gibson's movie Passion. It was true for The DaVinci Code. And it's true for Godless.

Watch, book sales for Godless will dramatically increase as a direct result of this call for a boycott....Idiots!!!

I know I can't wait to get my copy, but not because of the controversey...I think she's right!

Apologies

Sorry for the trouble yesterday. Seems they were performing maintenance on the host server and it slowed everything down to the point that users and bloggers were either timing out or were not able to log on at all.

Everything appeared to be normal this morning.

Al Zarqawi Shocked to Find Self in Hell!

International terrorist extraordinaire Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was reportedly shocked early Thursday morning to find himself not frolicking with 72 virgins and young boys in paradise as promised by the Quran, but rather condemned to everlasting pain, suffering, and eternal damnation in the firey abyss of Hell.

As he awaited his escort into the blazing depths the clearly astonished and disappointed al-Zarqawi offered a brief statement to reporters through an interpreter, "I cannot believe this transgression of Islam. There must be some mistake. You work your whole life toward the righteous goals of the conversion to Islam of running-dog infidels, the destruction of the Zionist entity whose citizens are decended from pigs and monkeys, and the eradication of bourgeoisWestern civilization from the planet, and for what? That darned Osama had better come out of his cave and get a clue."

After pausing for a refreshing sip of bottled water offered by a reporter, he adjusted his fashionably sporty hip-hop toboggin and continued, "If you see that rascal Bin Laden, you tell him for me, there ain't no paradise, there ain't no young boys, and there sure ain't no virgins! Blast.....I should have taken that scholarship to Yale when I had the chance."

As al-Zarqawi was led away by a teaming host of underworldlings, he shook his head dejectedly and was overheard muttering to himself, " Death to infidels, death to Jews...I can't believe I fell for that tripe!"

Go get 'em Ann!

Yesterday, Ann Coulter released her new book, Godless: The Church of Liberalism. In it she blasts the Jersey Girls' politicization of the 9/11 attacks in which their husbands perished.

She described them this way (borrowed from Drudge/AP), "that a group of New Jersey widows whose husbands perished in the World Trade Center act as if the terrorist attacks happened only to them."

She also wrote, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much."

Of course this particular line drew righteous indignation from the Left and many on the Right. "How dare she", they wailed, "how dare she question the motives of grieving 9/11 widows?"

These are the same knucklehead lefties who supported mommy moonbat Cindy Sheehan as she traipsed around the country publicly and dramatically "mourning" the loss of her son Casey in Iraq, collecting huge appearance fees, and basking in her miserably drawn-out 15 minutes of fame.

The Jersey Girls are being used just like Cindy Sheehan was used, by the Left in this country to advance their anti-Bush, anti-Republican agenda. You see that's page one out of the Liberal strategy book...trot out a victim of something or other (the more tragic the better) to use as a spokesperson for whatever the Liberal talking-points of the day are. One day Cindy was talking about WMD, the next it was global warming, the next it was sucking up to Hugo Chavez telling him what a great leader he is and how Bush is the biggest terrorists in the world. If anybody ever questions Cindy, they are blasted for being heartless and cruel. "You can't criticize Cindy...her son died in Iraq...that gives her the moral superiority to criticize Bush all she wants."

Fine but when is the last time anybody heard her talk about her son? She and the Jersey Girls have been co-opted by the Left to lend legitimacy to their otherwise ridiculous and unpopular policy stands. They believe they have righteous authority as grieving widows and are above question, especially by conservatives.

Which brings us back to Ann. When she wrote, "I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much", obviously she didn't mean that they were laughing and having fun at their husbands untimely demise. Obviously, she was pointing out that the Jersey Girls and Cindy Sheehan are running around profiting from, reveling in, and prolonging their victimhood.

Ann Coulter is right on the mark as usual! Hillary Clinton, Matt Lauer, Chris Matthews, Keith Olberman and all the rest can get their shorts all in a big indignant bunch over it but it's absolutely true...only Ann Coulter is one of the few who has the guts to say it publicly.

So much to do...so little time

Sorry I haven't gotten any stuff up the last few days. I've been really busy with youth sports, weekend projects, car shopping, work and trying to figure out which pathetic, worthless local political candidates deserve my support least...so I can go vote for their opponents.

I tell you, with all the negative campaigning from both sides, the incessant, annoying evening phone calls from candidates' offices, and the yard signs which never get taken down (I've even got one in my yard)...I've come to the sad conclusion that, with a few exceptions, there's not a nickel's worth of difference between any two candidates. They all accuse each other of being criminals, of being in the pockets of special interests, of being easy on crime, drugs, and illegal immigration...blah, blah, blah. It's like the candidates look at the current hot-button issues and then run out and accuse their opponent of being on the wrong side...as a campaign strategy. It's very disillusioning.

When you think about it, it's infuriating to realize that the candidates expect to get elected by exploiting the fact that most citizens are simple-minded, sound-bite voters who react blindly, rather than skeptically, to the slightest hint of something negative about one candidate or the other. What's even more infuriating it that's it's absolutely true about most voters. People are basically simpletons who hear an accusation about a guy and think that if that other guy said it, it must be true. And then go out and vote based on that one accusation alone.

Then consider what low voter turn out there generally is in local elections, and you realize that it's the single-issue, sound-bite voters who are electing our officials...no wonder Montgomery is awash in corruption and votes-for-money. Insincere campaigning gets insincere politicians elected.

I don't know which is worse...the gullible voter or the candidate who takes advantage of that gullibility to seize political power.

In any event, I plan to get out there at some point today and do my civic duty. That way I am free to criticize the guys in office when they mess up. You should too.

Have another Big Mac, ay...

You can file this under who cares?

ATLANTA (AP) - You can add Canadians to the list of foreigners who are healthier than Americans. Americans are 42 percent more likely than Canadians to have diabetes, 32 percent more likely to have high blood pressure, and 12 percent more likely to have arthritis, Harvard Medical School researchers found. That is according to a survey in which American and Canadian adults were asked over the telephone about their health.

Personal health is an individual responsibility issue, not an excuse platform from which the government may regulate individual behavior. Besides if as an American, I develop one of these diseases, at least I can get treated in a reasonable amount of time and not worry about dying waiting for a disastrous socialized healthcare behemouth to take care of me.

I sort of pity the Canadians, what with their inferior sports teams, inferior national economy, inferior quality healthcare availability, and a national unwillingness to fight terrorists, alongside the rest of the freedom-loving countries in any significant numbers.

I guess we'll allow them this one token example of superiority...heaven knows they have nothing else to be proud of.

Reply to comments on high maintenance gal take...

My very good friend chastised me thusly:

Ed: I couldn't disagree more. Who cares if the aforementioned Drug infested creature hits anything. He is a complete disgrace to the game. I applaud the guy for leaving - at least she possibly is worth something!! I hope he got his beer free as well. Barry better wake up or he will end up like Pete Rose in the "I deserve to be in" club. I almost wish for something bad to happen to him from his steroid use/abuse. In this world, how can we train kids to do things right when they see people being held up in the limelight that have taken shortcuts or just plain cheated ( Bonds, Scrushy, Sosa, Mcguire, etc) to get where they were or are. Stop mthe madness now1111

First of all, I don't think the guy left in protest of Bonds steroid use...he already sprang for tickets and he was just obliged to fetch concessions for his ravenous date.

As for Bonds, he will be voted into the Hall unanimously on the first ballot, that is unless he tests positive at some point or admits to steroid use. He has never tested positive despite numerous tests. That being said, clearly he took 'roids, and yes of course it's a terrible example for the kids but absent a conviction or his acting guilty like all those other guys, he will not be punished in my opinion. As parents of kids who play baseball, we should hold Bonds up as the degenerate example of "what not to do" rather than let the media influence their opinions. I know my kid sees right through the Bonds mystique and is completely unimpressed by his performance...probably in part, due to the fact that we have regular housewide discussions where all sides are defended.

Honestly, I couldn't care less if he passes Aaron or gets in the Hall or not, I can't stand the guy for lots of reasons, but if I were at any game in which Bonds were playing, I would be sure to see every at bat and so would you...the little lady would have to wait five or get it herself.

Then another reader had this interesting take on it...

Maybe this "high maintenance gal" is smarter than you give her credit for. Maybe she knew that the big #715 was about to be hit and she sent her fiance out for beer and peanuts on the outside chance that SHE may catch the winning ball, sell it on ebay for millions, and dump the putz that would get up in the middle of a very important moment in baseball history.

I think you give her too much credit for forsightedness...then again...women of the opposite sex have been known to be canniving, manipulative, and scheming for their own gain now and then.

high maintenance gal...

Every body knows that Barry Bonds hit #715 this weekend but what's funny is the guy who eventually ended up with the ball...

Fox Sports -- The souvenir sat there for a few minutes before rolling off the roof and into the hands of 38-year-old San Francisco resident Andrew Morbitzer, who was waiting for a beer and peanuts. He was quickly ushered away by security.

I know this guy surely loves his fiancee' but it's a bit much for her to have asked him to fetch beer and peanuts during a Bonds at bat. She couldn't wait like 5 minutes? Ever since #714, every at bat could be the historic one...no guy in his right mind would go stand in the concession line and risk missing it...except one engaged to an incredibly high maintenance princess.
