Mitch Daniels sticks it to the Indiana unions

Today Gov. Mitch Daniels signed into law a bill that makes Indiana a right-to-work state. It allows any worker to opt out of union membership and coerced union dues. There has been an exodus of manufacturing jobs from rust-belt states that have coerced union membership, to right-to-work states, because unions extort ridiculous contracts agreements from employers that make the cost of doing business unacceptable.

This means that Indiana joins Wisconsin and Arizona as battle-ground states for union influence this election year. Hopefully that will spread thin the money with which unions intimidate and threaten state legislators. 23 states are now right-to-work states and when the statistics show net manufacturing job increases in these states while union states lose those same jobs, other right-to-work bills will be swiftly introduced out of sheer self preservation.

Unions are a bad and unnecessary drain on the economic health of any state. Getting rid of their influence and thuggery is a step in the direction of sound fiscal policy.

Al Sharpton embarrasses himself.....but without embarrassment

Liberals this morning are using Romney's quote about not being concerned with the very poor, entirely out of context. Romney correctly said that the very poor have plenty of safety nets but that if holes are found, he'd fix them. But that wasn't good enough for village idiot Al Sharpton....

What programs for the poor? Is he serious? There are literally hundreds of government programs to assist the poor. Everything from rent to education, to food, to transportation, to health care, you name it, if the poor would like to have it, our generous government will happily fund it with money expropriated from other Americans.

And Romney's right. The focus of economic policy in the US right now, should be directed at the middle class. The very poor have safety nets and the very rich will take care of themselves, but who's going to make sure everybody else has a fighting chance? That's what he meant and Sharpton knows it.

Unless the formerly great Britain turns away from this self-destructive obeisance to Islam, hostile Muslims will establish Sharia sectors where British national law does not apply and Islamic savagery toward women can carry on unabated.

Exotic pets are destroying the Everglades

I've never thought that owning as pets, otherwise wild predators is a good idea. These people who have giant snakes, tigers, lions, and other assorted reptiles and carnivores as pretend domesticated pets are idiots. Besides the fact that the animal is just biding his time until the owner gives him a chance to kill him or somebody else for dinner, when they get bored with the animal, they set them loose outside to wreak havoc on the eco-system.

Burmese Pythons are thought to number in the tens of thousands in Florida's Everglades alone, where they thrive by killing and eating an alarming number of indigenous animals including the Florida panther, possum, bobcat, raccoon, and white-tailed deer.

It'll only take a few more years and most of these medium-sized mammals will be gone from the Everglades altogether and the impact of that sized loss of entire species from an ecosystem could be devastating. This is one of those instances where I think the government should outlaw the private ownership of these exotic animals as pets and punish severely those who turn them loose outside.

If you own an exotic pet, either let it eat you or kill it, but don't turn it loose where it doesn't belong.

I don't remember seeing this picture in my various history classes....not even during black history month do you hear that the first black senator and congressmen were republicans.

Now, I'm not naive enough to think that the GOP of the 1870's was the same as the GOP of today, but liberal teachers, textbook writers, and media trolls still omit this information. Democrats view only black democrats as authentic blacks......how could a self-respecting black person be anything else, right?

The possibility, no matter how remote, of a black kid considering the GOP as a political home is anathema to liberals because they are counted on to block-vote for democrats. A black conservative is a self-sufficient voter who recognizes that government is a hindrance to his success and rejects the implied contract between democrats and blacks by which blacks receive hand-outs in exchange for D-votes. By stationing 15,000 combat troops in Kuwait today, the US is sending a clear message to Tehran that we are prepared for a full-on invasion and occupation of that country if that's what they want by not abandoning their nuclear weapons program.

Is this really what we want? Another protracted engagement and occupation, and this time against a well funded, well equipped, and well trained military force in Iran? I don't think they'll roll over and within days become a tattered insurgent resistance the way Iraq's army did. They're going to fight back and a lot of our guys will get killed, as will a lot of theirs.

My hope is that this is just posturing to scare Achmadinnerjacket into giving up his nuclear ambitions, but somehow I think the decision has already been made in a small, dark room in the Pentagon to attack Iran at some point. Perhaps after 9 years of middle-east war, it's become a way of life for Pentagon officials and DOD weapons contractors. And now that Iraq is essentially over and Afghanistan is winding down....at least according to Obama, they need another target. I hate to be so cynical about our military because I was in the military for 16 years, but we sure seem eager to engage Iran.

From Wired.com -- A judge on Monday ordered a Colorado woman to decrypt her laptop computer so prosecutors can use the files against her in a criminal case.

The defendant, accused of bank fraud, had unsuccessfully argued that being forced to do so violates the Fifth Amendment’s protection against compelled self-incrimination.

For now, I'm on the side of individual privacy. I don't like the idea of the authorities being able to seize your computer to find yet undiscovered "proof" of your crimes. That means they also have access to your diary, mail, notepads, whatever medium they think has evidence that you did something wrong.

This particular civil rights slope is a tad slippery to me. The law will have to be written to be much less broad. Perhaps before they're allowed to search your personal computer, they have to possess other sourced proof of your guilt.....or something like that.

If you own an encrypted personal computer, it's probably a good idea to have a re-format trigger so that if the authorities try to force you to unlock it, you can easily destroy it with a few key strokes.

Late last year Obama went, hat in hand, to Brazil to beg them to sell us their 38billion barrels of off-shore oil, but the catch is they must drill for it in an environmentally responsible way. Predictably, Brazil said no thanks, and signed a deal with China.

Then last week, Canada gave us every opportunity to buy their oil, but Obama said no thanks to them too. Predictably, Canada will likely sign a deal with China. Meanwhile Iran is threatening to close the Straights of Hormuz through which 17% of the world's oil flows on tankers.

All of this, yet Obama will not allow drilling for one drop of our own domestic oil, choosing instead to wasted billions of taxpayer money on solar power boondoggles, 11 of which are in bankruptcy or soon will be.

If Obama isn't hostile to America, he's the most inept, incompetent, ideology-driven moron to ever hold high office. I don't think he's a moron. I think he's doing this on purpose to punish a country he views as evil, colonialist, and corrupt, having gotten rich off the backs of slaves and by stealing wealth and resources from poor countries.

Now, here comes Newt Gingrich surging in the poles after his stellar performance in the SC debate this week, and ABC decides to air a hit piece on him by interviewing his resentful, second wife. I'm not saying that Marianne shouldn't be resentful and angry that Newt dumped her for Callista, just that liberal ABC is trying to steer the nomination process toward Romney any way it can by destroying any serious competition. Then when Romney's nominated, the networks surely have hit pieces ready to air on him too.

This is why cynical political observers call the mainstream media the fourth branch of government. They have incredible power to guide voter ideas about candidates and being far left liberals, they never hesitate to use it. Of course they only have that power because most Americans are brain dead when it comes to picking political leaders anyway. They vote for which ever candidate is made to look "cool" by late-night comedians and day-time talk shows, then they go back to watching the Kardashians and Jersey Shore, oblivious to the peril in which they've placed the nation.

ABC should be more responsible and professional instead of glaringly partisan. I hope the American voters see through the hit piece and vote on the issues of the day. We were told on democrat Clinton's behalf that the personal lives of politicians are off limits and none of our business, why doesn't ABC have the same policy regarding a republican?

Obama caves to stupidity again

By denying the Keystone pipeline, Pres. Obama has denied as many as 100,000 jobs to Americans and thousands more in peripheral services associated with a construction project this ambitious. There are maybe three reasons why Obama would not allow millions of barrels of oil from Canada to be transported to our Gulf refineries:

1- Stupid environmentalists, anarchists, and other assorted crazies that make up Obama's voting core reject any fossil-fuel associated endeavor on global warming grounds.

2- China warned Obama not to compete for Canada's oil. The Chinese want it badly and hold most of our debt, and therefore Obama's testicles in their tightly gripped fists.

3- Obama hasn't finished punishing America for past racial and imperial transgressions. Americans who've enjoyed relative prosperity on the backs of minorities in this and other countries deserve to suffer smartly for crimes against humanity our grandfathers committed on our behalf.

So basically there are no good reasons for not allowing the Keystone XL pipeline to go forward. Given that it'll cost America at least 100,000 jobs, this might be the most monumentally stupid, of a lot of monumentally stupid, decisions Obama has made to harm America.

Russia tries and fails to be relevant again on the world stage

As you know, the US and Israel are preparing for a military adventure in Iran, ostensibly for Israel to destroy their nuclear capability, but for the US it's more about regime change than anything. Russia, always willing to stick its finger in our eye had this comment....

Unless Russia shows that it plans to defend Iran against the "imperialist aggressors" who cares what they think? For the record, I'm opposed to yet another US military adventure in Iran. Israel can handle its own business if it looks like Iran is going to cause trouble. I'm just saying that the opinion of the Russians is irrelevant. We should ignore them.

If SOPA passes, hyperpolitical bureaucrats will be running the Interwebs

SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) sounds like a good idea upon cursory examination, but when you look at the broad language, it's a little chilling in terms of free speech.

From what I've read, though it's noble intent is to stop piracy of music and other copyrighted material, SOPA would give the federal government's Dept of Justice(Eric Holder) the right to block unapproved, off-shore sites from viewing by law-abiding Americans because there might be some copyrighted material on them. That means that sites with millions of pages of information could be blocked if one sentence of copyrighted material were found there.

I don't know about you, but I'm uncomfortable with the federal government censoring sites from me for any reason. While a good idea in theory, because the very political justice department is the enforcement arm of the Act, owners of companies who donate to that President could apply pressure to have competing sites to their own blocked, effectively shutting them down. And don't tell me that our politicians and big-money donors are above that level of corruption. Every politician has his price and every donor is capable of bribery to help his business.

Wikipedia and other sites blacked out their web page for today in protest of SOPA and you may have noticed that Google put a black box over its logo with a link to get information on the slippery slope that is SOPA.

SOPA and the Senate version of the same bill, PIPA(Protect IP Act), both enjoy bipartisan support and Obama would like nothing more than to grab some power over the Internet. There has to be a better way than to involve the feds.

Obama gets betrayed by his blue-ribbon jobs council

President Obama stacked his phony-baloney jobs council with corporate donors who he rewards with favorable business policies, but even lapdogs like these guys see the disaster looming if we don't get the economy moving. So they staged a jobs-policy mutiny that is in direct opposition to Obama's stated policies....

These policy suggestions sound exactly like stump speeches by GOP candidates. The question is will Obama implement these sound policies to get the economy rolling again in order to help win the election, but in doing so infuriate his big-government liberal supporters, or will he stay the course of economic ruin in order to appease the far-left radicals who control his party and make it more likely he'll lose the election?

He's already signaled that his electoral strategy will be to blame the "do-nothing" congress, specifically the obstructionist tea-party republicans, for not allowing him to get anything done, so he'll blame congress for not implementing these policies too. Let's hope he doesn't get away with it.

Ron Paul supposedly has a plan-B

Ron Paul has virtually no chance to win the GOP nomination because many of his views are contrary to mainstream conservatism, particularly on foreign policy. Specifically, the GOP won't rock the Federal Reserve boat with an audit, as Paul demands, because in my view, the GOP is as guilty as the dems when it comes to its incestuous relationship with the men on the reserve board. Neither will beltway neocons limit in any way our military engagements in other countries and they probably pine for a shooting war with Iran.

That said, Paul has a plan to at least exert influence on the eventual nominee if that person becomes President. He will use his stash of delegates, won during the primaries that are not winner-take-all, as leverage to force, say Romney if he's the guy, to promise to audit the FED, eliminate HUD, Commerce, Education, and Energy departments, and limit our overseas military presence. The cost to Romney will be the considerable votes of Paul followers who'd vote Obama or maybe Gary Johnson if Paul's not happy.

The GOP response will likely be that if Paul sabotages this election for the GOP, then his son Sen. Rand Paul will be virtually black-balled from serious GOP participation in the future.

Ron Paul invokes Golden Rule foreign policy to boos in SC

The nutty South Carolina debate audience booed Ron Paul when he suggested we apply the Golden-Rule strategy to our military foreign policy....

While I don't agree that we should always stay out of every body's business around the world if we don't want them in ours, he sort of has a general point with which I do agree. Unless there is a demonstrable and pressing threat to the US or our allies, we don't need to go into, and/or bomb, foreign countries just because we think the time is ripe to bring our brand of democracy to them.

There was no demonstrable threat to the US in Iraq, Libya, or Egypt. We went into two of the three countries and yet, it's looking more and more that we'll end up with radical Islamic regimes in all three before the accounting is done. Can anybody argue that Iraq and Libya were worth the trouble, especially Iraq? The argument for the Afghanistan war is a more valid one to me because that's where the Taliban and Al Qaeda are primarily staged.

I think Ron Paul is more or less correct and after all, who doesn't know that we are ramping up for an attack on Iran? Before it's over we'll have been in Syria too, and to what end? To have created by our actions, radical Islamic nations more determined to bring harm to us than before? I don't think Israel will sit idly by waiting for the US to protect it from a perceived Iranian nuclear threat, they'll handle their business with or without our permission....we don't need to attack Iran.

This is not an endorsement of Ron Paul, just an acknowledgment that his general notion of reducing our military presence and role in the affairs of other countries is a valid one.

"Stand Your Ground" is a good law

In Palm Beach County, homicides are definitely down, but justified homicides are up as residents put into effect the "Stand Your Ground" law that passed back in 2005.

Every community should have a "stand your ground" law that specifically states that home owners have the right to defend themselves and their families from intruders. This is different from most home-invasion laws which state that you must retreat if possible. This law gives residents legal protection when they choose not to run but decide to stand and fight against crime.

I'm not a big fan of Mitt Romney as my President. I doubt seriously his dedication to actually shrinking government rather than slowing the rate of expansion and he has shown no desire to scrap the labyrinthine tax code in favor of a flat tax. That said, Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry are attacking Romney for participating in the capitalist process as if venture capitalization and free-market creative destruction were immoral. For their phony, populist attacks on the free-market process, not just that Romney was involved, I cannot vote for either.

Being libertarian, I cannot vote for self-styled choirboy Santorum either. That leaves me with a choice between Romney and Ron Paul. Ron Paul may still get my vote in Alabama's primary, but we'll see. The question for me is electability. Can Ron Paul appeal to enough social conservatives to beat Obama....I think not.

Here's loathsome dingbat, DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Shultz trying to convince Chris Wallace that Mitt Romney is responsible for Bain Capital holdings layoffs, but President Obama isn't responsible for jobs lost by Solyndra....

I would argue that Romney is far less responsible than Obama for the respective job losses. Romney's company Bain Capital purposefully took over failing companies and created usable capital for other ventures. Those jobs were lost already.

With Solyndra, Obama infused half a billion taxpayer dollars into a company he should have known was going bankrupt soon, but fleeced the American people into believing those "green" jobs were worth the investment.

Romney's company is part of the capitalist system of "creative destruction" that is necessary for any economy to thrive. Bad capital must be gotten rid of so those resources may be allocated more efficiently elsewhere. Yes, jobs were lost, but not by Romney. Those companies were already going under. When that capital gets used somewhere else, jobs will be created. With Solyndra, jobs were lost, not one was created....plus a half billion taxpayer dollars were stolen by somebody.

Wasserman-Shultz knows better, or maybe she doesn't, but she can't figure out how to spin it to Chris so it's believable. She just comes off looking like the moron she is.

Obama betrays the US again

In fact, Beechcraft is suing the US government because Embraer has links to the Iranian government and is being investigated for bribery. These two things automatically disqualify companies from receiving defense contracts. Why is Obama so in love with the Brazilians.

Earlier this year, he ceded our Gulf drilling rights to the Brazilians and funneled hundreds of millions of US tax dollars to Brazil to finance their off-shore petroleum industry while hamstringing ours for phony environmental reasons. Why? Occam's razor would suggest what we've always suspected which is that Obama is hostile to US interests and would like nothing more than to see America reduced to second-world status. If you can think of any other reason to hand out a defense contract to a foreign country when there is an American company perfectly established to deliver the same product, I'd like to hear it.

Iowa's overblown electoral importance

Just because Iowans selfishly insist on being the first primary every presidential election year, why does that make it so important? Iowa is pretty much ignored by the rest of the nation except for two months during a presidential election year. For some reason the media, and therefor the rest of the country, put a huge amount of importance on the outcome. Making or breaking a presidential campaign in a state with a human population density similar to the Serengeti seems a tad absurd, but that's just me.

Even Iowans admit that the more a candidate pays attention to them and the more advertising he does, the more likely he is to get their vote. So it's not really about policy to Iowans, it's more about stroking their massive egos like attention spoiled toddlers.

For that matter, why do we care about New Hampshire? It's a tiny non-representative state filled with weirdos, just like Iowa. I think we put way too much importance on these two petulant states' primaries.

So there's a movement among some conservatives to have a ticker-tape parade of appreciation for the returning Iraq vets. But is this really appropriate? Obama, no fan of the military, has been criticized by republicans for celebrating World Series victories more than returning veterans, but what did our veterans win?

Usually a parade is held when somebody wins something. Did we win the war in Iraq and I missed it? I'm not saying we shouldn't be thankful for the sacrifices made by service members in Iraq, but having a parade just because the President brought the troops home in the middle of a war doesn't make sense.

To show support and appreciation for the troops, I suggest that every time you see a uniformed service member in an airport lounge or neighborhood restaurant, buy him or her a drink or pay for their meal, anonymously. That's far more personal, they'll appreciate that more, and it doesn't look like we're celebrating a victory after the first round of the playoffs.

Simon's attorney, John Schepisi, tells The Record newspaper The Saddle River resident can't walk without help and has been declared incompetent.

Simon sued the pharmacy for not taking proper precautions to avoid theft of drugs. He also sued the party's host and his parents, along with several guests.
All of them will contribute toward the settlement.

How does this moron taking illegal drugs result in a fabulous payday for him? This is on par with the McDonald's hot coffee settlement in it's utter stupidity. Navy lesbians breaking new ground

Don't Ask, Don't Tell was lifted two months ago allowing gay service people to be openly gay if they want to be. I haven't heard any stories about problems perhaps because it'll take some time for people to get comfortable with it and come out. Well, this week the USS Oak Hill came home from 80 days at sea and as is the tradition in the Navy, a lottery was held to see who gets to run down the gangplank and plant the "first kiss" on a loved one. This year a lesbian won the lottery and got to be the first kiss. As always, they were cheered by their fellow servicemen and it was no big deal.

They didn't make a big deal about being lesbians, only that they were happy that they could just be themselves now. I say good for them. They look happy.

Having said that, these were two otherwise attractive women. What would the reception have been had the kiss been shared by a burly male fighter pilot and his male partner? I'm guessing not as warmly. Why is that? Why do we feel threatened as a society when two men kiss, but not so much when it's women? Is it because women are naturally and openly affectionate toward each other anyway? Or more disturbingly, is it because we subconsciously view the role of men as more reflective of ourselves collectively and the role of women less seriously? I don't know.

Iraqi's show their appreciation for the US

If somebody can show me how the last 9 years in Iraq and 4,500 US lives was worth what is there now, I'd love to be entertained by it. Political and social reform in middle east countries is hopeless at best, and an exercise in utter futility and a colossal waste of resources at worst. What got accomplished? A rudimentary constitution was written, a fledgling coalition government formed, and a first ever election held....but to what end? The insurgent terrorists are still terrorizing the capital at will and the corrupt government is woefully inept in controlling them.

Saddam was a terrible guy and deserved to die, but how long before Islamic extremists begin to assert themselves into leadership roles in Iraq? My guess is not long.

The shortest route from Israel to Iran is directly over Iraq and with no air defense capability, who'll stop the Israelis from attacking Iran, assuming anybody wants to stop them that is.

But outside of Denver, people sneer derisively every time Tebow acknowledges his faith publicly. Why is this?

Before Bill Clinton I was oblivious to the curious phenomenon by which we Americans need to know that our leaders and heroes are no better than the worst of us. To have them be better than us compels us to live up to some standards of behavior. We Americans don't like personal standards of behavior. We like our politicians to lie to and cheat us and molest and kill interns. We like our athletes to carouse, get busted for DUI, and serially cheat on their wives and children. Not that we all behave like that, but as we go about our lives, nobody can point a finger of condemnation at us when Bill Clinton is doing what he did with Monica in the oval office.

We're comfortable feeling superior to dishonest politicians and degenerate athletes and as long as Tim Tebow is losing we can still feel superior, but we are definitely uncomfortable with a good and decent guy being a winner too.

I wonder if other players and sports media would be mocking him if he wore Islam or Hinduism on his sleeve as unapologetically as he does Christianity? That's a rhetorical question. You already know the answer. Tebow's public acknowledgement of Christianity forces us into the uncomfortable position of evaluating our own lives and the media can't have that.

That's why you can count me as a huge Tebow fan. Not just because he's a Christian, but because he confounds the sniping critics who hate what he stands for.

But the point is, I rarely go to movies anymore because there's always some moron, jerk, or group of kids who won't shut the hell up or stop texting or talking on their cell phones during the movie. I'm glad this guy got choked. He deserved it. I'd like to throttle people at movies who think they're the only people in the room and disregard entirely the basic rules of public behavior and decorum.

Other peoples' rudeness is the sole reason why if we go to a movie, it's a matinee' or late in the movie run where there are maybe 10 people at each show and we can sit far away from everybody.

Newt's pragmatism on immigration

Newt Gingrich is taking a lot of heat from the other GOP candidates for his comments on immigration. They're accusing him of being pro-amnesty....

“I don’t see how the party that says it’s the party of the family is going to adopt an immigration policy which destroys families that have been here a quarter century,” Mr. Gingrich said during the debate. “And I’m prepared to take the heat for saying let’s be humane in enforcing the law without giving them citizenship, but by finding a way to create legality so that they are not separated from their families.”

I think this is the most pragmatic, logical, and reasonable position. While in an ideal world, it would be nice to kick literally every illegal out of the country and start over from scratch with a closed border, in what alternative universe do these conditions exist? The fact is, they are here, and most do not commit crimes, do pay some taxes, and do participate in the American dream. Blanket amnesty is a bad idea, but rounding up and deporting 20million people is equally bad.

There's got to be some way to offer a pathway to legality, but maybe not full voting citizenship, to those who participate and remain otherwise lawful. I think Newt's on to something and the other candidates have to attack him as the front runner.

Romney's objection that it'll just encourage more illegal border crossings could be negated by closing the border first.

If you're intentionally blocking a public-use sidewalk and refuse to move when the cops tell you to move, you're breaking the law and you deserve to get pepper sprayed in the face. On his trip to Australia yesterday, Obama announced plans for the US to deploy 250 and eventually 2,500 marines in northern Australia in the coming months. Why? Supposedly it is to apply theoretical pressure to the Chinese not to misbehave in the south Pacific but, is that really a concern of ours? And why does Australia need US marines to protect them? They have a fine military. This seems like a slap in the face of the Australian Army to me.

I don't get why they would invite us to be there, other than a lot of local economic stimulus comes with supporting that many people.

I just don't get having US military bases all over the world. Seems pointless to me. Let Australia handle her own business. If we need to project force to the south Pacific, we can easily do it in a matter of hours and 2,500 marines aren't going to deter China from doing whatever it wants there.

Did anybody else see the 60 minutes report by Steve Croft last night regarding how virtually all congressmen use inside information (information to which the voters have no access) to make millions for themselves and their families? All these guys are criminals! Not only do they trade stocks based on inside information, they advance legislation, the sole purpose of which is to enrich themselves. As Speaker of the House, Denny Hastert bought some cheap, virtually worthless cornfield land in Iowa, then pushed through an unnecessary interstate bill that quadrupled the value of that land.

How is he not in jail? Who oversees the criminals in congress? The justice department? Where are the gov't watchdogs? Why aren't there sunshine and transparency laws for the personal financial dealings of elected officials? Oh wait there are, but because DC is a rigged town, the fix is in and everybody is getting rich on inside information, nobody wants to upset the gravy train.

And these guys make political hay putting otherwise harmless drug users in prison for decades. If I traded on inside information or used my office for personal financial gain, I'd be in jail.

Joe Paterno out at State-College

In an effort to preserve their already damaged institution, Penn State's board of trustees fired by phone, head football coach Joe Paterno and the president of Penn State. Students rioted in support of Paterno but did he have it coming?

According to reports, a current assistant coach who was then a graduate assistant, witnessed coach Sandusky "sodomizing a 10 year old boy in the locker room showers". The term "sodomy" can mean several different things, all of them bad if you're a 10 year old boy. Instead of beating the coach to a bloody pulp and then calling the cops, this coward went to Paterno's office and told him. Then Paterno apparently told his boss the athletic director who apparently did nothing, resulting in as many as 17 boys being molested by Sandusky.

So who dropped the ball(if you'll pardon the football expression)? Much like the Catholic church, there is a culture of protection of the bigtime, Division-1 football institution at all costs. Every problem is handled "in-house" rather than involving outside authorities. But this wasn't a case of a 4-eyed nerd taking tests for stupid athletes. That's an in-house issue. This crime required nothing less than the immediate stoppage of the crime followed by an immediate call to the cops. Everybody in the Penn State chain-of-command passed the buck up to the next guy until it eventually got ignored.

I admire and respect Joe Paterno for his football and ethics record at Penn State, but his kicking this crime up the ladder for someone else to handle made him complicit in the crime and in the interest of Penn State, the board of trustees was probably wise to act quickly.

Obama is playing a dangerous game with Iran and Israel

Despite Iran's regular threats to destroy the Zionist state, I doubt it has any intention of attacking Israel. They don't have to. All Iran has to do is assume the posture of attack with its nuclear weapons capability and they know that'll be enough to bait Israel into a pre-emptive strike. Then they can whine about Israel being a aggressive, blood-thirsty state knowing that Israel's few remaining allies will turn on her.

And since Obamas's storied contempt of Israel and her PM Netanyahu is very public, Iran knows it has nothing to fear from the US by nuclear saber rattling. Building up a nuclear weapons program while proclaiming (unbelievably) that it's for peaceful energy purposes, Iran believes it has plausible deniability about its intentions to provoke Israel into a first strike.

Achmadinnerjacket knows that Obama is a weak, empty-suited amateur who when the sh*t hits the fan, will side with the UN majority against Israel. Killing bin Laden and Qaddafi was easy. It takes spine to confront a nuclear armed Iran and Obama is in short supply of spine.

Obama just can't help himself. He must raise taxes no matter how ridiculous the reason given. The idiocy of it is that he's ostensibly helping the industry, but he's too economically inept to understand that raising the price will harm the Christmas tree industry. My son is taking an Econ class in high school and he fully understands the relationship between price and demand. Why doesn't Obama?
