To their credit, Charlie Rangel and SanFranNan Pelosi had unequivocal words for Hugo Chavez after his comments regarding George Bush at the UN...First, Chavez' remarks: "The devil himself is right in the house. And the devil came here yesterday. Right here," Chavez said as he stood at the U.N. podium where Bush spoke the day before.
"It smells of sulfur still today, this table that I am now standing in front of," Chavez said.
Now, read how democrats Rangel and Pelosi, two of Bush's biggest critics, reacted to them:
RANGEL: AN ATTACK ON BUSH IS AN ATTACK ON ALL AMERICANS... 'You do not come into my country, my congressional district, and you do not condemn my president. If there is any criticism of President Bush, it should be restricted to Americans, whether they voted for him or not. I just want to make it abundantly clear to Hugo Chavez or any other president, do not come to the United States and think because we have problems with our president that any foreigner can come to our country and not think that Americans do not feel offended when you offend our Chief of State'...
Now Nancy Pelosi:
"Hugo Chavez fancies himself a modern day Simon Bolivar but all he is an everyday thug,"
"Hugo Chavez abused the privilege that he had, speaking at the United Nations," said Pelosi, a frequent Bush critic. "He demeaned himself and he demeaned Venezuela."
Good for them. That's exactly how every American should feel when a two-bit, tyrant like Chavez comes into our country and speaks to the world in those terms, because his insults are not just directed at Bush personally, but at the U.S. Presidency and the U.S. in general. We should all feel insulted and outraged. Sure, Pelosi and Rangel probably saw a poll that showed how 90% of Americans would look favorably on a politician who defended the Presidency against an outsider like Chavez, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt here and take their defense of Bush at face value.

Pure political pandering. There is no integrity or "America first" motivation in their statements I can assure you.
I'm working on an essay addressing how our elected officials have failed us. The working title is "Sweet Insouciance".
Looking forward to it D. You may post it here at TRR if you like.
Politics, I agree from these two Dems, but appearances count for something and if it paints them into a corner where they have to be a little more honest about where they stand, then their pandering will have served a purpose.
Touche'.
As far as the essay I goes I'm not sure TRR (or any other blog for that matter) is the right venue. As you pointed out in your posting guidlines "keep it short" due to the short-attention-span Americans. After all I'm not Ann Coulter.
I am outraged at the comments by Sen. Rangel. Instead of completely defending our president, he states that it is acceptable for Americans to denegrate the president, but onl Americans. His quote states that "because we have problems w/ our Pres...": this is an outrage! Bush's popularity numbers are rising. The only idiots that have a problem with Bush and his politics are the pinko-leftist Dem's who are visibly shaken and are trying to do anything to unseat this man.
I hope that Rangel is held accoutable for his actions, and is forced to retract his disdainful remarks.
I despise Chavez and his Knife in the back comments, but I will not accept a backhanded defense either. Be an American - have the balls to stand up fo our country, or get the hell out of the way and let somebody with the guts to do the job have it.
If the Dems win the majority in November, Rangel claims he will initiate impeachment proceedings against President Bush.
His words were the right ones, but I fear they were empty rhetoric and we'll see the real Charlie Rangel if the crazy-left carries the day in November.

Reid,
Everyone knows the President's numbers are improving because gasoline prices are declining.
$1.15 a gallon in November should do the democrats in nicely. It'll take the wind right out of their stupid economy-argument to vote democrat.
Regardless of presidential numbers, this Rangel guy is bordering on treasonistic behavior. If any sen/rep had uttered those same words about Ike, he would have been out of office so fast, that his head wouldn't have started spinning , 'fore he was gone. We accept this behavior, and therefore allow it to fester. We need to be Americans first. That requires all of us to support the administration towards any outside source - period. We should be united not splintered. If Rangel has an issue deal with it internally and keep Cheapshot-Chavez out of the picture.
We have allowed ourselves to be diluted into a country of different ethniticities, races, religions, etc - instead of Americans first and foremost. If this was the prevailing mentality in the 1900' we would have a different world today. We have lost true Americans and replaced them with political idealogues who only care for themselves and their advancement. John Foster Dulles was an American. He was a statesman. It is unfortunate that the generations to come will only know of this name and wonder how this airport has the name, or will try to get the local politicians to change it to some easy lingo name, like Amerifrohispaniaorinetslavic International. Isn't that lovely.
Teddy Roosevelt stated his position by announcing to the world that all were welcome here, just:
1) Love our Country
2) Learn our ways
3)Speak our Language
Where did that go? I guess that the Jesse Jackson/ Al Sharpton/ Charlie Rangel's of this world have so clouded that picture, that we try to avoid that subject in our history classes. We however delve deeply into the atrocities placed on slaves and the civil rights leaders. History is history, and it all should be taught. We should not select what best fits our image of how history should be , and use that. Some things are embarrassing (Vietnam incidences jump to mind), but still use them as learning tools so that they will not be repeated.
The great general George Patton always credited his study of an opponent and his tendencies, towards developing winning battle strategies.
America the beautiful is fats becoming the land of Et Al instaed of the home of the Brave.
